An up vote here for the chainsaw controller. It looks awesome, its display case is great too. If you try hard enough it can actually be used for gaming. It being related to RE4 seals the deal. The cheesy motor sound when you pull the rip cord ties up nicely with the in game figurines with sound you can collect.

I like the buttons on number 6. Its a Playstation Controller but the buttons are labeled I, II, A, B. That won't be confusing if a game tells you to push X or O to do something.

    • @thatguy8152
      @thatguy8152 6 лет назад +9

yeah when you're legitimately good at gaming you no longer need to look at the buttons, your muscle memory will do the work without you thinking.

A friend of mine actually had Samurai and ninja themed PS2 controllers. I can’t remember what they were from but they were highly detailed. The details were supposed represent weapons and clothing styles. They looked liked collectors items but they were fully functional and extremely durable. But they were extremely uncomfortable to use because they would make your hands raw do to how the controllers were sculpted.

A more recent one is the Steam controller; the direction they took it in with the dual trackpads is an odd choice, but it surprisingly works really well for most games.
I find first person games and top-down games to be exceptional, but games in which the camera is behind the player/over the shoulder, I find those to be difficult to control with it.

NES's Robi the Robot. Which was basically a controller for a controller. I believe it was only used for the game Gyromite. Basically, you set it on a table. It was a robot that has spinning disks, a spinner for the discs, a two button stand that the disks spun on, in which the P2 control was put it. The robot "watched" the screen put the disk top thing in the spinner while waiting. You get to a door that needed to be opened and it would take the spinning disc and place on which ever button would be used to open the door in your way. The disks had to spin in the even that you needed both buttons pressed at the same time to open more than one door at a time. It was over complicated and handing the P2 controller to a friend would accomplish the same thing only faster.

Nowadays, I think one of the oddest controllers is there are 3-D printable replacement grips that you can put on your real A.R. 15 or AK-47 rifle and slot in your oculus quest controllers, basically turning a real gun into a VR toy. Some thing that just seems fraught with peril because you’re pointing a real gun at things you do not intend to shoot and you’re waving a real gun around your house potentially swinging it into some thing and breaking some thing or worst-case scenario sending a real bullet through the wall and into someone who does not need to be shot

I remember playing a fishing game on PS2 that came with a fishing rig controller. It was shaped kind of like the handle and reel of a fishing pole, but the reel was boxed shaped with the buttons of the PS2 controller on it, and there was a part at the top that moved and bent when the line was under tension along with the controller vibrating, and of course a reel handle on the right side of the controller to wind in your cacth. You could also cast the line by holding a button down and flicking it. Not that you couldn't play the game without a normal PS2 controller, it did make a fishing game somewhat fun.

i still own two namco neGcon controllers. before the analoguecontrollers "dualshock" as they were called later, they were the only way to have analogue controlls in racing games so you don't always steer, brake or throttle with either full steering angle, full throttle or brake or noke at all. they made sense in a way, though they were a nightmare to set up with all those deadzones and getting used to play with them.

NeGcon - I've never used one, but I know that in some PS1 games, it was the only form of analog control that they supported. Your only other choice in those games was steering with the D-pad.
One time in Goodwill, I saw a strange PS1/PS2 controller. It was shaped like a normal Playstation controller, but instead of actual sticks, it just had two round balls in the sockets. They functioned like sticks, but there was no stick sticking up. Imagine if someone cut the analog sticks off at the base and sanded it smooth. I was kicking myself later for not buying it, especially as they only wanted $2 for it.

Super late to this video but the Fairchild Channel F controller. First cartridge based console so you either forgot about it or never heard of it. The controller is a joystick that has 12 inputs: the 8 cardinal and ordinal directions (forward, left, backward, etc.), clockwise, anti-clockwise, press in like a button, and pull out like a lever. It's a whole Bop It with just 1 stick.

Number 23 is a cool controller and there’s a blue version for the PS2 it has a small screen on it that allows you to map the buttons, the idea behind it was that you never had to take your thumbs off the joysticks as the buttons are on the grips that are very comfortable.

That master chief controller is very similar to the PSX Resident Evil 2 controller, although only one of the "handles" was shaped like that of a gun grip, the other side was a weird textured cylinder... Oddly enough though, it worked very well for Resident Evil and Dino crisis, the button layout was very intuitive for those specific games, and the D-Pad was in two parts so the left/right and the up/down were two separate elements, even though it looked like a standard PSX d-pad, it actually made controlling the character a lot more accurate and smoother than the standard pad... it was actually a very good controller, I just had somewhat limited usage.

The rifle simulator was modeled after the M16. The AP74 was a spinoff of the M16. Not that it really matters, they're basically the same rifle. The biggest difference is that a 5.56mm round is a .223, compared to a .22 round. The M16 round acts different when it hits a target, and will usually do more damage. Also, the recoil and trajectory are different.

The Paradox for PS2 - This was an early version of crowdfunding. It never came to fruition (at least at the time as I don't know if they ever started it again) as they cancelled it and I got refunded. It was actually a great idea for some games.

The Sega Master System Control Stick, where the control sticks are in reverse the rectangular shape joystick is on the right side while the buttons are on the left.
It's an old shape controller for the Master System and I don't know of too many people who can play using your right hand on a joystick and your left hand for buttons.

This doesn't technically count as a controller, but way back around the year 2001 Logitech released a mouse called the iFeel Mouseman which basically had force feedback functionality supported by the PC game Black and White. I owned this mouse and honestly don't remember how many other games had support for this mouse.

As far as I can remember, the golden age of third party controllers was during the 80's. Quickshot was a controller brand, they would release dozens of controllers for micro computers like the Atari 800XL or ZX Spectrum. Oooh, those days, life was so simple.

I had the gamester fps master controller I had to cut off the trigger guards to be able to work it best lol but the best part about it whitch this video doesn't mention is that there buttons on the inside of the handles that your middle and ring fingers can access, and you can map these buttons to do actions like open doors, throwing grenades ect ect while your thumbs stay on the analogs and your forefingers stay on the triggers. Was a great controller, should of kept mine

There was a game for the original Xbox called Real World Golf. Basically it was a golf simulator. The game came with a special control box with cords attached which connected to gloves you had to wear. Every movement of your hand was relayed through the cords and reflected on screen. IMO an amazing game if you like golf. It improved my chipping actually. The downside was that the game used generic courses as opposed to Tiger Woods which was using real courses. And for the time it wasn't all that cheap. I still have it. Wish my Xbox still worked.
