Sold My 4Runner - Bought a Toyota Land Cruiser Lexus GX470 Prado 4x4 All Wheel Drive

- I couldn't say no, It was such a great deal! First look at my new, to me, Land Cruiser, also known as, LC 120, Land Cruiser Prado and here in Canada and the US its called a Lexus GX470.
It's comfy and rugged AF!
A quick look and review of this legendary 4x4 in the Rocky Mountains!
These SUV's are becoming hard to find and prices for them are skyrocketing due to the interest in overlanding.
The used vehicle market is going sideways along with the economy. I picked up this GX470 for way under value and also received a bag of cash for my 2018 TRD Off Road 4Runner. About $7k less than I paid for the 4Runner new in 2018 but with 115,000 kilometers on it and 3.5 later (also needed brakes). 😲

I was dead set on getting a GX470, then found a LandCruiser 100 (few years older, bit higher miles) for the same price. I bought the LandCruiser 100 because it came from Texas (No rust). It's bigger and more comfortable, but everything is more expensive. Accessories, Parts, Steel bumper, rock sliders, skid plates... everything on it is more expensive than GX470 (which is basically a 4runner). Your GX470 is a good choice.

I just saw a clean LX 100 (equivalent) for almost the same price, like you say… Gorgeous, but it’s also wider, longer and heavier… And DD says for city driving feels a little too truck like. You may be correct that there are a few pluses for the “superior” model although for Overland, yes the sheer inertia would be wonderful. Enjoy that bad beastie.

Dealers here in CA are tacking on $10k on top of the MSRP for 4Runners, makes one think maybe just go whole hog and get a Lexus GX! "Gotta get rid of those wheels

Good choice, I have a 100 series land cruiser and it is a beast. Love the Toyota 2uz V8s runs like a sewing machine and reliable as hell.

Good trade! I an 2008 V8 4Runner with the full time 4WD serves well in Colorado
2-3 inch lift with 33 inch/285 size tires and remove the side steps for nice rock sliders and it will look sweet. Black out the grill, darkened headlights and front will look good.
Nice ! Congratulations I have been thinking about doing the same. Last month when I was in Ontario for work I missed out on a GX that sold quickly. I live in Yellowknife and there are none to be found. Maybe I will have have better luck when I am in Montreal for the Holidays. Sweet ride and thanks for sharing. It's amazing in the snow and it's nice to have all wheel drive working for you without having to worry about throwing it into 4x4 all the time. They're definitely getting bought up quickly now. I much prefer those stock five spoke rims to most non OEM.
The other default is always TRD rims in matte gray. GX Community Approved Content.

The GX is starting to go sideways price-wise as well. I can't find one under 20K. 2 years ago you could get one for a round 12k

Had a Rav4 with a rear hatch like that and always though it was annoying when you parallel parked it. In North America we drive on the right side of the road so the rear hatch should be hinged on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
What I like about it is that you can hang gear off it. You can even buy little fold-out tables for prepping stuff etc.. plus the door on the outside you can mount spare tires Jerry cans and so on

The 4Runner was/is amazing. I'll be honest with you though, this all wheel drive system with the Locking four by four option and V8 is pretty sweet LOL

That "thing" basically IS a 4th Gen 4runner with a LEXUS body-- like a 4 runner IN LUXURY CLOTHING!!! :) Best if you add lockers to front and read- and get rid of the ground effects..(cut the trim front and rear, get rid of the running boards- go sliders, body armor, steel bumper w winch, extra gas tank (giving you 56 gallons).. and a 2 inch lift with KO2s on custom wheels.. :) and a regear job if you want to go bigger than 33s in tires sizes..
After owning from new a 5th gen 4Runner TRD Off Road for 3.5 years, this GX470 does everything better (except maybe the lack of the rear locker). It drives better, more comfortable on long hauls (15 hour drives), more towing capacity, and tons of power. I loved my 4runner but this is next level.
I deleted the rear air bags, added a 2" lift all around. Still winter here, so no tires yet. There's no way on the KO2s, not a fan. I ordered up a red dog fab bumper. I love this truck
@@JimmyMeatwhistle rear locker out of a 2010 or new FB will be a direct bolt to bolt transfer-- and not that expensive...:)

However, your bumper has a pretty rare add-on (that center part that has GX470 on it and stretches out towards the fog lights). Don’t toss the old bumper, someone will give you some $$$ for that.

Congrats Jimmy! The model Lexus the dealership guy showed me, that he claimed was equal to the 5th gen 4runner, was $65k... and way too blingy... no thanks
I was after the all-wheel drive that it has and the V8, bling or no bling LOL
That is still a 4runner... The chassis is the same and the only difference is the engine and body.
Better change the rear airbag suspension to springs for that will break down in the long run.

@@JimmyMeatwhistle I'm familiar with the GX for my dad has the same vehicle too. I had a 3rd gen 4runner and just sold it last month for the cost to repair it was not worth it. It had 237k miles on it and engine still runs smoothly and quiet too.
Prado is v6, the 4Runner is exactly the same and it's lighter so technically it will last longer due to less stress on the components and frame. The Gx is the luxury version of the Prado and the 4Runner is the Spartan version of the Prado
Not quite the same, totally different 4 wheel drive system. The GX470 and 460 are all wheel drive but you can lock into 4x4

Hi Craig. I drove the 4Runner for 3 and 1/2 years, put a 115,000 kilometres on it and pretty much got what I paid for it all back. Now that is crazy lol. To be honest, this drives better, has way better acceleration and the all-wheel drive in the conditions I'm driving in is absolutely awesome. 👍👍

The GX is a good mix of a creature comforts and still be able to go places that ordinary vehicles can’t go.
