To us mere mortals, world-class athletes and other high performers sometimes seem like superheroes. They exhibit skills, focus, and drive beyond what most of us can even fathom, yet surprisingly come across as everyday people when encountered in "real" life. The most aggressive NFL player is a nurturing dad and friendly neighbor. The ear-biting, skull-cracking cage-fighter is a goofy video game nut. How -- and why -- do they transform from one identity to another, and is there a lesson to be learned that we can harness for ourselves?
In this episode, we talk to Todd Herman, coach to many of these high-performing athletes and author of The Alter Ego Effect: The Power of Secret Identities to Transform Your Life. He'll explain the power of these secret identities, what we can do to break type and -- like working out muscles we hardly ever use -- channel out-of-character facets of ourselves we may never have realized existed.
What We Discuss with Todd Herman:
⚡️ How you can harness the power of your own secret identity -- and why you would ever want to.
⚡️ What it takes to adopt seemingly out-of-character characteristics and dominate your personal and professional life.
⚡️ Why taking on an alter ego isn't a "fake it 'til you make it" scheme, but channeling little-used facets of yourself you may not even realize exist.
⚡️ The hidden enemy forces that oppose your attempts at accomplishment and how to resist their subtle and not-so-subtle influences.
⚡️ How to honestly understand and come to terms with what truly motivates you -- and deal with what keeps you from following these motivations.
    ⚡️ And much more...

I love you guys. You’re both Just so real. This is very helpful and I appreciate your questions cuz it’s kind of a different way of thinking. I’m 66 and still working as a CPA by day. Three years ago I started teaching myself to play guitar and sing. Now I’m out performing and I’ve made a record and I’m trying to act like a rockstar. I’ve got a good imagination. I meditate daily. Thx guys for this meat and potatoes discussion. This world needs you. Peace and love to you Darlins. ✌️❤️🌹

    good interview!
I saw the "fight club" movie yesterday. and in the film, the main character has an alter ego, from a boring office job employee who can't stand up for himself to a fighter boss who blows up buildings.
at the end of the film, the main character shoots a bullet through his head to get rid of his alter ego he created. because his alter ego is no longer in balance and has the abundance in his daily activities.
for me this makes it very clear that your alter ego does not have the upper hand in everyday aspects. but only for the things that his boring office mindset can't break. what has already been said in the video is that you need that boring office job (the enemy) to keep everything in balance.

It's a movie. It's not necessarily an accurate example of anything.

I would have liked a better answer to Jordans question about the Alter Ego being vulnerable to the imposter effect.

I have a question, how much can we expect with this alter ego method? is it just a relief of worries, or a little bit of our worries and weaknesses or a huge game changer?

    • @1smg346
      @1smg346 9 месяцев назад

For me it’s actually a huge game changer because when you take on this method it feels like you are not you anymore you are playing a different role right now so all your insecurities sadness shyness of your first self disappear because you think like I am a different person right now I am not that old self so this new self doesn’t have the problems your old self has it only has all positive things and successful things

can you tell me your personal experience using this technique, because honestly I still feel so silly applying it.@@1smg346
