John F. Kennedy addresses The Irish Government, 1963

- President Kennedy looks back at Ireland’s history and the progress it has made.
In his address to the Dáil, President Kennedy looks back at Irish history and speculates on what might have happened if Ireland had been independent when his great-grandfather left New Ross, Co. Wexford. He is proud to be the first American president to visit Ireland and talks about the enduring links between Ireland and the United States. He describes how Benjamin Franklin was received by the Irish parliament in 1772 and the support Ireland gave to the cause of American independence. He returns to a recurring theme of his visit, the history of Irish emigration to the United States.
President Kennedy then takes a look at the Ireland of 1963 and the progress it has made, how its nationhood is not an end but a beginning and how it has undergone an economic and industrial revolution. But he says that “prosperity is not enough. Free Ireland will not be satisfied with anything less than liberty”.
I WAS VERY PRIVILEDGE TO SEE HIM WHEN HE VISITED MY HOMETOWN CORK CITY IRELAND 🇮🇪 IN JUNE 28TH 1963 A MASSIVE CROWD TURNED OUT TO GREET HIM HE WAS SMILING AND WAVING TO THE PEOPLE I WAS STANDING ON THE SOUTH MALL STREET CORK CITY WHEN HE PASSED BY HE WAS ON HIS WAY TO CITY HALL TO MEET THE LORD MAYOR OF CORK CITY SEAN CASEY AND OTHER DIGNITARIES THEN CAME THAT AWFUL DAY IN DALLAS TEXAS U S A FRIDAY NOVEMBER 22ND 1963 WHEN HE WAS MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD BY A PERSON OR PERSONS ???? As a Paddy who grew up in Dublin in the 80s, I know full well the extent of American friendship - Tip O'Neil for one among many. Thank you USA and thank you JFK. If only our world leaders were as educated now as they were before. We will never forget. Thank you USA
Kennedy was a complete disaster.
I love the Irish people. And there's a lot of reasons why. The fact that I am Scotch-Irish I promise had no persuasion or impact on my comment. A true Irish man never lies. He might embellish a little in the telling of the tale but never a lie
Well said Sir. Well said

@@Iveraghboy well I said I was Irish. Scott scotch doesn't matter to me but it sure sounds better especially in a pint
My Grandpa was Irish and he told me he once saw a barn take flight.
@@finnkillen6554 so your grandpa like I is or was scotch Irish. A Scots Irish could never see and probably never believe a barn could take flight. But me has a Scotch Irish probably could have flown it. LOL I for one believe your grandfather, it would be unlikely an Irishman say something that is not so. Of course it took flight and bless his soul wherever he's at.
Being a proud Irish Catholic American watching this Great Irish Catholic American gave me a sense of how proud I am living in this Great country and how I know we can back to the values this Great man was setting way back. All 6 of my children are very aware of this great man!!!
Andy, Kennedy was not an Irish Catholic, tho some of his ancestors were. Also, his beliefs and policies were actually pro-British, in sharp contrast to his father.
@@johnnyoranges Of course JFK was an Irish Catholic...it can be debated whether or not he was a practicing Catholic.
It is true that JFK did not believe in appeasing Hitler like his Father Joe did. Joe allowed his children to develop their own political beliefs though made no bones about stating his own.
@@johnnypastrana6727 FFS Kennedy was an American. Why do you have to go thru this sentimental claiming of every second person of note as being one of you ? Is it a case of insecurity ? I mean, I've got an Irish name too, but so what ? I'm not Irish.

President John F. Kennedy (in his own words).
As an adult looking back over the years, I can’t help but come away with an eerie sense of incongruity between the man I hear speaking (President Kennedy) versus the way he is often portrayed in the Mainstream Media.
In his speeches, Kennedy comes across as a man of great courage, conviction and intellect. A person who doesn’t seem to have a problem with truth telling. Yet, in the Mainstream Media, they tend characterize him as a man who has problems with indiscretion.
I recently re-watched the Zapruder film, and I noticed a different type of incongruity. Look at the film again for yourself. Notice how the film doesn’t actually show the first shot. You know, the shot in the neck. That’s because there was a rather large sign obstructing Zapruder’s field of vision. As the film continues and Kennedy’s limo passes the sign, then you notice right away that the President has already has raised his hands to his neck. Therefore, the first shot had to have been fired during the few seconds when the car was passing the sign. Then, a few seconds later, there’s the second shot that appears to come at an angle instead of head on like the first one.
These shots were separated by a matter of seconds. Surely, someone would have notice a shooter changing positions in order to take the second shot. What point am I trying to make you ask? Here it is: Looking back, I cannot accept the “history” surrounding President Kennedy. Specifically, what’s the real story behind the man, John F. Kennedy, and who was responsible for his murder and subsequent coverup?
For far too long, these questions and more have been pushed aside by people in government. Yes, by people who were supposed to be working and representing “all the people.” Americans must start taking responsibility, and accountability, for the individuals we “entrust” with enormous power. If we don’t demand it now, when will we? I’ll give my answer to that question. If we don’t demand it now, we’ll be asking/begging for it when it’s, too, late.
More conspiracy theory nonsense about JFK's murder. Trust me, if there had been a "conspiracy", it would have been uncovered long, long ago. There was none. Deal with it.
Kennedy was a disaster.

Lunacy my arse. JFK bravely stood up against the Soviets during the Cuba crisis. Himself and his brother stood up for the human rights of the Afro Americans, civil rights in general and both paid the ultimate price for their respect of their fellow man. Two great men, but not as great as you I suppose, - ya great ballX!
@@hughneek12 Enough mythology. Let's deal in facts.
In 1962, the fake news media portrayed the boy Kennedy as having stood up to the USSR, and forced them to remove their nukes from Cuba. It was later revealed that the Soviets, far weaker militarily than the US, had in fact forced Daddy's Fart to remove American nukes from Turkey. This was all done secretly, so the idiot rich brat wouldn't look like the weakling he clearly was.
A military failure at the Bay of Pigs, catastrophically in Vietnam, and also in Berlin, he was also a drug addict (amphetamines and painkillers). The most dangerous US President in US history, this clown brought the world to the brink of nuclear holocaust.

Than what you expected? I thought Kennedy was rather famous for this exact accent.
It seems to be a mid-Atlantic accent informed by his family and youth in New England as well as the influence of diplomatic London. I have never heard it outside of his family and other wealthy American familes of the 20th Century. The ultra rich were very clubby and formed an extended family for each other. I have never heard it in present-day New England and I have lived in Vermont for 28 years.
