  • President Kennedy looks back at Ireland’s history and the progress it has made.
In his address to the Dáil, President Kennedy looks back at Irish history and speculates on what might have happened if Ireland had been independent when his great-grandfather left New Ross, Co. Wexford. He is proud to be the first American president to visit Ireland and talks about the enduring links between Ireland and the United States. He describes how Benjamin Franklin was received by the Irish parliament in 1772 and the support Ireland gave to the cause of American independence. He returns to a recurring theme of his visit, the history of Irish emigration to the United States.
President Kennedy then takes a look at the Ireland of 1963 and the progress it has made, how its nationhood is not an end but a beginning and how it has undergone an economic and industrial revolution. But he says that “prosperity is not enough. Free Ireland will not be satisfied with anything less than liberty”.

President John F. Kennedy (in his own words).
As an adult looking back over the years, I can’t help but come away with an eerie sense of incongruity between the man I hear speaking (President Kennedy) versus the way he is often portrayed in the Mainstream Media.
In his speeches, Kennedy comes across as a man of great courage, conviction and intellect. A person who doesn’t seem to have a problem with truth telling. Yet, in the Mainstream Media, they tend characterize him as a man who has problems with indiscretion.
I recently re-watched the Zapruder film, and I noticed a different type of incongruity. Look at the film again for yourself. Notice how the film doesn’t actually show the first shot. You know, the shot in the neck. That’s because there was a rather large sign obstructing Zapruder’s field of vision. As the film continues and Kennedy’s limo passes the sign, then you notice right away that the President has already has raised his hands to his neck. Therefore, the first shot had to have been fired during the few seconds when the car was passing the sign. Then, a few seconds later, there’s the second shot that appears to come at an angle instead of head on like the first one.
These shots were separated by a matter of seconds. Surely, someone would have notice a shooter changing positions in order to take the second shot. What point am I trying to make you ask? Here it is: Looking back, I cannot accept the “history” surrounding President Kennedy. Specifically, what’s the real story behind the man, John F. Kennedy, and who was responsible for his murder and subsequent coverup?
For far too long, these questions and more have been pushed aside by people in government. Yes, by people who were supposed to be working and representing “all the people.” Americans must start taking responsibility, and accountability, for the individuals we “entrust” with enormous power. If we don’t demand it now, when will we? I’ll give my answer to that question. If we don’t demand it now, we’ll be asking/begging for it when it’s, too, late.

It seems to be a mid-Atlantic accent informed by his family and youth in New England as well as the influence of diplomatic London. I have never heard it outside of his family and other wealthy American familes of the 20th Century. The ultra rich were very clubby and formed an extended family for each other. I have never heard it in present-day New England and I have lived in Vermont for 28 years.
