True story. My ex-best friend lived in a very nice apartment Uptown. Her rent was $17 (seventeen dollars) per month. She was on Section 8. At the time she had 2 children. Only stipulation was she couldn't have anyone living with her. She moved her children's father in the apartment. HUD came by and did a surprise inspection and could tell a man lived there. She told HUD she can have whoever she wanted to live with her. She was evicted. Clearly one of the dumbest decisions of her life.
Does anyone remember the lady on JJ who was on section 8 paid $100 ea. Month.and still didn't pay her rent and got evicted?! I'd follow whatever rules they have to pay such a low amount for housing.
How are are people being paid 12.50/ hr.??? The fact that he has to have multiple jobs to survive really says something about the way this country is run.
Ummmm wtf? $12.50 hourly in a big city is peanuts. New York City rents are outrageous. Landlords are desperately trying to get rid of rent-controlled places there because they lose money. I wonder when this episode originally aired because rents are jacked sky high in NYC now.
Yes! ive spoken about this before on here. Housing fraud is insane here in NYC. They do this all the time on the upper east side, and upper west side and the projects. Charging $1000 a room in a 3 bedroom apartment when the rent is based on 30% of the income of whose on the lease and usually the only person on the lease is a senior on Social Security.
That's crazy here in San Antonio, I worked for our housing authority and during inspections if they notice anything like this your kicked off and put in jail for fraud. But this case is crazy
"if you dont do the right thing its comes back to hurt" true words from a wise woman I cant believe the self control JJ has when it comes to shady individuals I couldnt help myself to tell her off and more
Landlords desperate to speed up an eviction will use this tactic many times to get the courts to expeditiously remove the tenant. It happened to me years ago, landlady wanted me gone for reporting her to housing code enforcement and started an eviction. She out the blue called the police one day saying I threatened her life and needed a restraining order. The police told her to get cameras at the property since they had no evidence. She was livid and told them it would be too expensive for her to install.
So because she was doing something illegal , she doesn’t deserve protection? That’s not how the law or life works. He was possibly violent she was not violent.
Yes the are. My friend just moved out of a complex because they raised her rent to $1,500 for a one br and started accepting Section 8. The apartment isn’t nice enough for market rate tenants to be willing to pay that much but the Section 8 tenants don’t pay the full amount. The government pays it. The owner is making a bunch more money. I had a similar experience at an apartment complex years ago. Once the owner started accepting Section 8, it became very difficult for the rest of us to live there. But they weren’t evicting the problematic people. Before long most of the prior tenants had moved out.
@@anndeecosita3586 Maybe but the trend is more and more landlords don't want section 8. In Atlanta 50% of those approved can't find a landlord who will accept them there forced to live intent cities
There are people who have been abusing the system forever. The real and PRIMARY reason landlords are refusing program rent at higher rates now is because of housing market demand: higher demand means you can charge more and you have more potential tenants to choose from. Programs like Sect 8 put a cap on how much rent u can charge. It's more profitable to NOT participate.
