      Totally agree. "A trick of the night" (the original album version), "Dance with a stranger" & "In a perfect world" form a perfect trilogy. Anyone's negative predjudices about Bananarama could easily be overthrown by these three songs.

    I think it would be a terrible shame if they didn’t ask Siobhan to join in the 40th celebrations in some way. She did co-write all their biggest hits in the 80’s so it’s not as if she hasn’t earned her place as a member of Bananarama.

    • @bipbippadotta5953
      @bipbippadotta5953 3 года назад +10

      In any of these recent interviews that I have seen they only refer to themselves except once when they were actually asked about Siobhan so they had to respond briefly to confirm that she was even in the band ! Jacqui O'Sullivan isn't even mentioned. I don't think this reflects well on them. Siobhan was a huge part of the original Bananarama and joined them for a sell out tour in 2017. I have no doubt that her being on board contributed greatly to the success of the tour. She originally left the group as she grew tired of the SAW manufactured sound of their late 80's hits and formed Shakespear's Sister whose creative dark style would never have been fulfilled with Keren & Sara. They can't just write Siobhan & Jacqui out of history.

    • @garethe9886
      @garethe9886 3 года назад +7

      @@bipbippadotta5953 Seems they can? Sara focuses heavily on the 30 years as a duo but that was nowhere near as successful as when Siobhan was with them. That’s just my opinion though. Because I know a lot of fans like Bananarama as a duo but I’ve always preferred them as a trio.

    • @shaun5552
      @shaun5552 3 года назад +4

      I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt since nobody apart from themselves knows the full story.
      It’s entirely possible that Siobhan didn’t want to be in the book for example.
      Point being I don’t know the facts so I won’t judge anyone.

    • @fylaxx
      @fylaxx 3 года назад +3

      Having read the book Sara and Keren had a very tight friendship before Siobhan and even though they were a group it’s always been very Sara and Keren being very tight doing basically everything together and Siobhan having her own thing. And she slowly grew out of Bananarama and finally left. At the time she was pregnant, living in LA with Dave Stewart about to marry him.
      Then she teamed up with Marcella Detroit creating Shakespears Sister. Then they fell out...
      So in 2017 they did this oneoff original lineup tour and that was all it was. They did try putting a new track together but it didn’t click and nothing came of it and they went their separate ways again. Siobhan then made up with Marcella again for a Shakespears Sister reboot with new music, some gigs and greatest hits.
      But hey! 2022 is still some time away so who knows what they get up to! Fingers crossed!!!
      In one of the last paragraphs of the book they even quote Siobhan saying: Your friendship is unnatural!

    I am definitely going to buy the book. I certainly hope there is at least some mention of Jacqui . She had four or five decent hits with them. You can certainly pick out her voice on the lead vocals on most of those songs. She also had a very cool, somewhat haughty and aloof stage presence which I felt really contributed to the band. There cannot be any question that for the brief time she was in the band, Jacqui certainly pulled her weight and contributed…. Well, on stage and in the videos. Apparently she was quite the loose unit on the world tour and would turn up massively hung over, if she turned up at all. I think that’s brilliant! You do you Jack’s!

    I love Bananarama, but PWL did not have little success before them- they had hits with likes of Hazell-Dead or Alive, Hazell Dean, Mel + Kim, Sonia, Samantha Fox. etc
    So very confused there.
    And they said about studio costs in the 80's/90's, but also i that time others like Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel. etc
    Made their own home studios after a while keeping costs down a lot.

    • @anonnymous4684
      @anonnymous4684 2 года назад

      Sonia didn't have a hit until 89, Mel and Kim came out later in the same year as Venus, and Sam Fox didn't work with SAW until 87. But yes, both Hazel Dean and Dead or Alive preceded Bananeama's work with Stock Aitken and Waterman.
      It was expensive to put a studio together back then. And Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel were solo artists so there would have been no debate about where to locate a private studio.

    • @ingvarjensen1088
      @ingvarjensen1088 Год назад

      But they're right - prior to Bananarama SAW just had hit it big with Hazell Dean and Dead Or Alive. There was no Mel & Kim, Rick Astley, Kylie and so on yet. Bananarama's "Venus" was SAW's first US #1.
