I'm sure Conner knows this, but just in case it's helpful for him (or for anyone else), Sow is the word for female pigs (like Mare for horses, Bitch for dogs, Ewe for sheep etc).
An explanation for Connor, first of all " 8 out of 10 cats " is a sort of night time panel game show, the title comes from an older tv commercial " 8 out of 10 cats prefer whiskers cat food " so the game show rely's on the answers to random questions given by the general puplic in percentages, then there's Countdown which is a daytime quiz show that has two contestants and is quite serious, so it was decided to make an adult funny version and to combine the two shows hence the title " 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown " and as for QI, the title simply means the answers are Quite Interesting hence QI ..
On QI each guest has a buzzer to answer questions, and the sound changes with each show to fit that weeks theme of questions. The sound is different for each guest too, and Alan Davies' buzzer that week was a sample of 'We'll keep a welcome in the hillsides' a popular Welsh song, chosen for Alan because Davies is a common Welsh surname. Davies himself is English but must have Welsh ancestry somewhere along the line. Fry imitates a Welsh accent, "It's the voice of your forefathers there. It's your ancestors there, isn't it! Welcome in the hillsides." Hi Connor 30 sows and pigs (female & male pigs) sounds like 30, 000 pigs in an ozzy accent - the paper reported 30 000 pigs swept down the Dawson River but it was just 30.
Panel shows are very popular in the UK, I think most panel shows around are British. I think it’s based off the idea the British love comedians and comedy. It’s the perfect format for comedians to shine.
12:37 The clip regarding the breast reduction procedure in German soldiers. If I remember correctly, he explains on the show (but it's not included in this video) that soldiers who trained regularly with their rifles were starting to get a build up of fat around their pectoral muscle. This was due to the bodies natural defence against constant impact from the recoil of the rifle. So even though they were in good shape one breast was getting fatter than the other and they opted for a breast reduction. Hope that helps to clear things up a bit. I think you'd enjoy the full episodes of QI as they live up to their name of being Quite Interesting.
The breast reduction surgeries for male german soldiers are probably linked to the honorary battalion in Berlin (used for military honours when there is a state visit). They often exercise with their rifles and I read somewhere that the way the rifles rest on their chests somehow causes one-sided growth of breast tissue. Don't ask me how this is possible. 😅
That's basically the explanation I heard on the QI podcast (No Such Thing as a Fish). They end up hitting their chest a lot during an exercise or a march or something and breast tissue grows if you massage it (or hit it, I suppose) 😆
I'm Welsh, and once helped a blind old lady to cross a busy road in London. When we got to the other side, she thanked me and asked "Which part of India do you come from?" - "Swansea", I replied :)

HI Connor, Gynecomastia (guy-nuh-koh-MAS-tee-uh) is an increase in the amount of breast gland tissue in boys or men, caused by an imbalance of the hormones estrogen and testosterone. in short man boobs, they do not remove the chest muscle, just the excess fat with a bit of liposuction.
6:44 Some context. He’s referring to Diana Mosley, wife of Oswald Mosley, a name that should ring alarm bells if you know you’re British WW2 history well, Oswald ran the British Union of Fascists, a political party of Nazi sympathisers.

Please react to Lieutenant Gruber in "Allo, allo". It's a british comedy series set in a small village in german-occupied France during WW2 and it's VERY funny. Gruber is a german officer and... well let's say he is not particularly interested in women. So if you want to hear more of this kind of german accent in English... I think the video in question is called "Lieutenant Gruber - There is nothing straight about him" or something like this. You will find it, among others about other characters from the show. Edit: There is also the (shorter) video "Lieutenant Gruber is one of "them"". It's from the first episode so it might be a good introduction to the humpur of the show.
Hi Connor the woman who liked Hitler was originally a Mitford sister (who you'd find interesting) who married Oswald Moseley who was our fascist leader.
If you want an example of camp horror, in the way Stephen is suggesting, I would recommend the only film I can think of and that is Carry On Screaming.
The thing about German soldiers and breast reduction was due to the fact of them repeatedly banging their guns against their chests due to parades caused their mammary glands to swell. Hence the need for mastectomies! You should actually watch more QI especially if you like history, (also you wont lose the context of what their talking about!)
The voice you had trouble with toward the end was the amazing Vincent Price, star of The Abominable Dr. Phibes, The House of Usher, Witchfinder General, Theatre of Blood and many more. Check em out.
Countdown: A family-friendly game show that is shown in the mid-afternoon, where 2 contestants play against each other to make words out of 9 letters, chosen from a choice of vowels or consonants by one of the contestants. There are also ‘number rounds’ where 7 (I think…) numbers are selected, and then an ‘answer’ is calculated, and the contestants have 30 seconds to use those numbers (only once per number) to get as close to the ‘answer’ as possible. This is quite a well-respected and high-brow game show. 8 Out Of 10 Cats: A not-so family-friendly game show that used to be shown on a Friday night, presented by Jimmy Carr, with 2 teams of (I think) 3 contestants, who were usually comedians or other relevant celebrities. This game show focussed mostly on what had been in the news that week, and was sort of statistic-based, such as ‘25% of university students questioned admitted to only washing their _____ once every 3 months’ and the teams would get points for choosing the right answers, with some panel comedy thrown in for good measure. (Both of these were shows broadcast on Channel 4) 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown: This is what happens when you try to polish a turd. Yet it is brilliant. Take the letter and number game show mechanics of Countdown, and infect them with comedy genius that was 8 Out Of 10 Cats. That pretty much sums it up. QI: Named for a play on the common ‘IQ’ or Intelligence Quotient, a bit of an antiquated measure of someone’s relative intelligence, but instead named ‘QI’ for ‘Quite Interesting’. Another panel game show, with 4 contestants, one of which is always Alan Davies (a brilliant actor and comedian - check out Jonathon Creek if you’re a fan of both who-done-its and stage illusionists) and is hosted by Stephen Fry (since replaced by Sandi Toksvig). The main idea behind the show is that the questions are things that most people ‘know’ the answer to - or at least think they do. If you answer a question with what you think is the ‘right’ answer, and it’s an answer that the producers have foreseen as one of the likely (wrong) answers given by the contestants, then an alarm goes off and that contestant loses points. Points are award for the ‘real’ right answers, but also for answers or facts that are ‘quite interesting’. QI is 100% worth a watch and a react to if you haven’t already - and there’s a podcast that’s being going for years, hosted by the ‘QI Elves’ - or the QI researchers - that is equally as good and full of useless and useful factoids. Would I Lie To You, or WILTY for the fans, is obviously a simple game of bluffing the other team. On top of these, if you’re a fan of QI, WILTY, 8OO10CDC (8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown) then make sure to check out Taskmaster. Another pretty absurd, yet brilliant, game show hosted by the comedian Greg Davies (Head of Year Mr Gilbert off of The Inbetweeners), whereby a group of 5 celebrities, many of which have appeared on QI, 8OO10C, WILTY etc have to perform seemingly easy, yet bizarre tasks with the hope of winning a to-scale golden replica of Gregg James’ head at the end of the series.

8 out of 10 cats is a comedy panel show. Countdown is a serious game show that has run since the 80’s. Because they come on the same channel , someone thought it would be good to combine the shows which has become a very successful series in its own right if that makes sense?
You should try to find Fry's Prince Charles story. It's hilarious. Also, if you haven't watched it, try to find the compilation of everyone making fun of Stephen.
You really do have to try and watch these programmes individually. We have a wonderful sense of humour, dry, silly, macabre, political and childlike at times it is quite unique to this country. Qi, 8 out of 10 cats, have I got news for you and many many more are brilliantly written. If you can find episodes on RUclips then watch as you will get a small insight to our adult humour
The Australian one was that the person interviewed said "30 sows and pigs" but it was reported as 30 thousand pigs", it was misheard. The German soldiers having breast reductions was because they would ceremoniously butt their rifles against their chest, causing one side of their chest to bulk up more than the other side. They would have one side of their chest growing muscle to deal with the constant impact, as a kind of defense.
The sections only lasts like 30 seconds each, so why stop the video constantly mid-joke, comment, run it again and again stop it mid joke or talk over it? I like your reactions, but the timing of them kind of makes it difficult to impossible to follow what is said in the original clip.
You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself - this video combines cultural references, weird accents and oblique comments, and in short, fast clips. I’m actually surprised that you are managing to keep up as well as you do because you haven’t grown up in the UK, and all of this is new to you.
One of the great staples of British TV are what we call comedy panel games. There have been various attempts to launch them on US TV over the years, but none has proved successful.
"8 out of 10 cats" is a show by itself, and "Countdown" is a long running quiz show. "8 out of 10 cats does Countdown" is the regulars and comedy of Cats injected in to the quiz show format of Countdown which is a much more serious not-funny show by itself.
I hate to be pedantic, but please call Bill, Billy Connolly. I think my late Grandma (Campbeltown born) was pecking at my head as I read the comment. He is one of my favourite comedians and I do owe this to my wee little Grandma Agnes
Gynaecomastia is excessive breast tissue growth in males caused by an imbalance of male to female hormones. If males produce too much oestrogen, they grow boobs. Stephen was talking about males in the German army having breast tissue removal surgery I.e. breast reductions. The breast sits over the pectoral muscle.
In regards to the German soldiers having breast reductions is that some males are born with overdeveloped breast tissue so their pectoral muscles look more like female breasts due to hormonal imbalance. This may disappear after a while but surgery can also solve the problem. The soldiers probably felt embarrassed so had the surgery.
In one of the episodes Stephen explains how as science progresses what was a fact might not be a fact any more. The first invention to break the sound barrier is a whip... That's not true any more. The first invention to break the sound barrier was probably toast. The crunch you hear when you bite into toast. Those are 100s of tiny sonic booms. Bread was one of humans staple food stuffs, it would be silly to assume that they made bread for 150,000 years but never thought to warm it up. Toast is the invention that was the first to break the sound barrier.
The impression of Brian Blessed.... an actor, adventurer and very loud man... you may recognise him as Boss Nass in Star Wars, or the Hunter Carlton in Disney's Tarzan.... he's also well known for swearing. ruclips.net/video/fvGzfV1IRtg/видео.html
The German army have to slam the butts of their rifles against their chests when they march. The continuous trauma to the area can sometimes cause the body to store more fat in their, in order to form some protection. This leads to soldiers growing breasts and having to have them removed.
QI is serious facts with comedy guests."Would I lie to you" is a slapstik quiz of celebs telling truth or lie. 8 out of ten cats is just mayhem. The 225 breast reductions in German army will be slack skin due to weight loss. " Brookside" was a soap series set in Liverpool. You have a slight Boston accent I think 🤔
About the 212 german soldiers who underwent gynecomastia: "Gynecomastia (guy-nuh-koh-MAS-tee-uh) is an increase in the amount of breast gland tissue in boys or men, caused by an imbalance of the hormones estrogen and testosterone." So it's a case of when men for hormonal issues happen to develop (female) breasts and have them removed. It's only the removal of glandular tissue and fat, so it doesn't affect the muscle at all.
You have to be an older person to get some of these references like Vincent Price an American actor who had effected an unusual English/ American camp accent.
"The Last Samurai" Should interest you Connor, Billy Connolly is in that historical drama. Or "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" That MOVIE you will love!

01:21 One word: Sasha Baron Cohen's "Brüno"
"8 out of 10 cats" is a show by itself, and "Countdown" is a long running quiz show. "8 out of 10 cats does Countdown" is the regulars and comedy of Cats injected in to the quiz show format of Countdown which is a much more serious not-funny show by itself.
If you a) watched full episodes and b) stopped interrupting you'd hear the whole joke and find out the answers to what you're asking.
Connor you would love "Ali G in the land of Wales" - Ali takes an expedition to Wales to educate the masses back home on Welsh culture
8 out of 10 cats is a comedy panel show about statistics. Like,, 9 out of 10 dentists...
I hate to be pedantic, but please call Bill, Billy Connolly. I think my late Grandma (Campbeltown born) was pecking at my head as I read the comment. He is one of my favourite comedians and I do owe this to my wee little Grandma Agnes
Stephen Fry had a hilarious interview on Top gear. Look it up.
Look up Vincent Price - doyen of 50s-60s horror movies. American, married to an English actress, and lived in England for a long time.
Typical example of a New England accent is Peter Griffin...
Was Vincent Price New England?
Yes, I had this but guess what?...it was just my right tit! Got it removed through surgery at nineteen 🤪
There’s Sean Connery 😂😂😂😂😂
Have you seen Stephen Fry in blackadder set in WW1
There's a video of the panelists make fun of Stephen Fry that's worth a look
Think that episode filmed around Dec 25..th
Try to listen to Vincent Price and his unique American accent. Vincent Price was known for acting in horror movies.
I think you’ll enjoy Stephen Fry
What shouldn’t be in a kids chemistry set also on QI. 🌺🌺😊
You have the same accent as Peter Griffin. Don`t deny it.
You don't have a new England accent, if I close my eyes your Peter from family guy 🤣
Regarding the types of shows like QI, 8 out of 10 cats, WILTY, etc; the collective term is “Panel Shows”. 👍
Please check out QI bloopers
You have to be an older person to get some of these references like Vincent Price an American actor who had effected an unusual English/ American camp accent.
gynecomastia is the growth of breast tissue in men, so nothing to do with pecs.....or moobs xx
Brian blessed is a famous actor known for his big voice... check out Flash Gordon
He explains the breast reduction before this clip. The soldiers get enlarged breasts from the impact of using their rifles.
"The Last Samurai" Should interest you Connor, Billy Connolly is in that historical drama. Or "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" That MOVIE you will love!
