My college level communications class did at least touch on posture, gestures, as well as pitch, power, and pace of the voice as a part of communicating ideas. The one thing that had the most impact on me is that within our religious meetings, is what we call the Theocratic School, which teaches us all in the congregation to be effective public speakers. I am still fascinated with body language!
I've been using a cardboard box that is just the right height for my laptop camera. I've had it for almost 2 years. Great tip. Thank you for sharing the real-life solutions and for your encouraging words, Mark.
Add listening skills to the curriculum. Patient, non-judgemental listening that feels "safe" for them to share. Mark Boden is so good at this, because he emanates such warmth and tolerance. People do not want to share with those who emanate hostility, judgement, or are in such a huge hurry. Listening skills are not taught in school much unless one is maybe studying communication or psychology. Most people are terrible listeners that I observe. There is a saying, "It takes a great man to be a good listener". It takes courage, and focus.
Thanks for the comment, couldn't agree more with you Cathy. Most people don't really understand the meaning of listening.... and it's the one of the top answer that my guests give hen I ask them the top three skills missing from curriculum
