Great video to easily replace my Sonos Roam Battery on my broken speaker which solved the issue. Thank you for this very detailed video!
Thank you 😊
THANK YOU! My Roam completely died after only 18 months and performing the various resets by Sonos support didn't help. They offered me a 30% discount on buying a new Roam if I wanted. Instead, I used this video as a guide to replace the battery with a generic replacement battery I purchased on amazon for around $20 and it completely solved the problem. Hoping I get more than 18 months out of this next one.
Good job 👍🏼
thank you! i did the same and it works!!! @@shaktastik
Yea they gave me the same response. Send us your speaker so we can change a $20 dollar part and resell it. Mmmm no thank you
Just a warning - I replaced my sons Samsung tablet battery with a Chinese sourced equivalent - woke up in the night with a smell of burning - traced it to my sons room and found the tablet was almost on fire, and spewing horrific smelling fumes into his bedroom. The tablet was ruined. The supplier of the replacement battery ended up giving us some compensation, but I'll never let my kids charge even an OEM battery in their room anymore.
Great instructions! Used this as a guide for replacing the battery and now my friend has a functioning Sonos Roam once again. Thank you!
Thanks for posting this. Was able to replace my battery with help from this video.
Such great sound from something that looks so simple. Amazing what sets Sonos apart from the rest is the technology behind the sound. They just do it better.
Indeed. My brother in law has a JBL speaker twice the size - it sounds like s**it compared to the Move.
I just brought my Roam back to life (from a dead battery) following this videos instructions. THANKYOU so much for posting it. You’re a star.
How did you do it? I'm having the same issue and I'd love to revive mine.
Thank you! My Roam (preordered launch model) died several weeks ago and I stumbled over this video - now it's back in action after I replaced the battery following your video.
During my first attempt, I had some issues with just the orange light only coming on for a few seconds and then dying. But I found out that the flat connector cables where the tiniest bit misaligned, so as a tip for anyone struggling, make sure you re-insert them 100% correctly before screwing everything back together.
Thank you! Your video was perfect to watch in realtime while tearing apart my two roam speakers that needed the battery replaced. I was so nervous with the first speaker, but ultimate found that it came apart and went back together cleanly thanks to your video showing how you were disassemble and assemble it again.
Just fixed our Sonos Roam (yet another with the orange light of death), by taking it apart using this video as a guide and replacing the battery with a new one from Amazon. Many thanks!
Thank you! $22 battery on Amazon and it’s perfect again.
Thank you. Followed step by step and my Roam is now working as intended. Much appreciation for making this video 🙏🙏
When you said now I am going to put it back together...I would have cracked up if you had just zoomed back and flicked the whole lot in bin and said well that's what I think of that.😆😂
Haha you are given me great ideas for next videos 😂😂 don't forget to subscribe 😉
My SONOS Roam battery was dead; bought a new one and changed it. Thank you!!!!
Super helpful, just replaced the battery on my dead roam. "don't leave the cables under the battery". as I was unscrewing the battery to get the cables I left under there. lol.
Thank you for this, I've just used it to replace the battery on my ROAM
Fantastic video. I was going to throw my roam out until I saw this. Worked like a charm!
Great video! Very helpful giving me confidence while swapping out my old Roam's battery when it died recently.
Thanks a lot for this teardown. My Roam works good as new
My pleasure thanks for leaving a message ❤️ and we'll done for fixing ur roam speaker.
Thanx a lot for a good video! Was real easy to do a battery change on my Roam, work like new again
Thank you and well done
Hi, a friend of mine gave me his « dead » Sonos Roam because he bought another one so I ordered the battery on A..z.n for trying the repair. Thanks to your video it’s done 🎉 Huge thanks to you.
Thank you and well done to you 👍🏼❤️
Thank you.. You saved me $100 battery was only $25 thru amazon
Thanks for the video, it helped me change my battery. Fun times!
Thanks for doing this video. Great help!!
Thank you Shak. Useful guide ;-)
Thanks Denis 👍
Very good speaker!
Thanks so much, your video was so help full... do you have any brand glue to recomend?
Mine was dead after a little more than a year. Would no longer charge at all from the base and would only have a solid orange light plugged in to a wire that would never extinguish. Wouldn't turn on wouldn't reboot. Dead. Seems a lot of people are suffering this if you research.
Thank you so much for this highly detailed video!! I also replaced my Roam's battery by referencing this video. Any suggestions on an adhesive to use to reseal the rubber top and bottom pieces?
Thanks!
Could you please do a tear down of the sonos ikea lamp?
Love it 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you :) Please subscribe 🥰
i used this video to tear down and replace the battery on an in-op Roam i bought from ebay! it’s connecting, showing 100% charged, and sounds great.
however, the TOP LEDs (above the sonos logo and the one by the microphone button) are not working at all. i’ve discovered the problem and it’s because I wasn’t gentle enough when removing the end cap on that end, and popped off a couple little connectors on the end cap circuit board. i don’t think I have the skill yet to repair those so I will have to see how this roam does as-is and if that little bit if damage affects it long-term. i recommend not going too deep with the spudger or plastic thing when removing the end caps!
非常感谢!
谢谢您 !
What brand of power screwdriver is it ? Love that little tool
The Roam is a brilliant speaker. Even despite a missed opportunity at being a complete beast with bluetoooth stereo pairing. The highs really make this speaker, as you said the tweeter is amazing.. But it has impressive tight bass in addition. I hope they add the ability to use them as surrounds or even a simulated 7.1, or even real 7.1 for ARC users. That battery looked like it contained 2x 21700s or something.
I don’t think it’s 21700. Analysing the specs: 5000 mAh capacity, 3.6 v nominal at 2 cylindrical shape lithium cell batteries (not series) is too small for the said capacity. I believe it’s dual 18650 (parallel) at 2500 mAh capacity per cell.
@@iramorales71 Yes, I think you are right. I've been playing with various methods of charging/powering the roam. In some cases the battery still drains as it's plugged in. As per Sonos I think you need 10W adapter to prevent this and possibly power this thing. Chances are when the batteries finally go they will need to be replaced before the speaker will function again even when plugged.
I really really hope they can be used as surrounds in the future. I don’t want the ones against my back walls esthetic wise. Having portable surrounds would be game changing for me.
My Sonos roams charging port pushed in so I icant charge it. I was waiting for you to take the charging port out lol.. it's fine thanks for the video I just wish I didn't have to take out every single screw just to fix it.
Mine has many Bluetooth connectivity issues, the music pauses randomly using RUclips or Apple Music apps on my iPhone, I’ve already looked at the Sonos Web page and nothing helps, my Roam makes sound interruptions even being very close to my phone, I’m not a technician to determine the wireless signals or what is interfearing, and I’ve never had this issue with other Bluetooth speakers, so, my iPhone’s Bluetooth is ok. Does somebody has any idea about how to fix this issue? What about its Bluetooth antenna status? Help please
Good video. What kind of music player you use and where could I buy it?
ACTIVO CT10
Pretty decent conteny
Your music player looks cute, its a Sonos product as well?
Thank you, its the Activo C10 check it here ruclips.net/video/Al167UzPWc4/видео.html&ab_channel=Shak%27sHacks
great tracks, but can’t find them on Spotify or Apple Music, sadly
Hey thanks for the tear down! …
I’ve been hoping to see the grille from the inside to see if the logo would be removable.
Do you this this could be achieved easily?
Good question, I've watched the video again and unfortunately I can't tell or remember. I also don't have the speaker anymore but hopefully someone else can advise.
@@shaktastik I’ve watched another teardown where it looks like the logo letters are pushed into the grille with little pins. But it could also just have been a white reflexion from the harsch camera lighting.
I’d be very happy if someone could clarify.
(don’t want to heat the front of the grille and perhaps melt some seals in the process just to remove the logo)
What’s the Bluetooth player you use towards the end of this video to play music ?
ACTIVO CT10
@@shaktastik Thank you. I was wondering the same thing.
Sob story alert. Thanks for the video as it made it so easy to tear down. Then ordered the battery from Amazon and after a week the supplier cancelled, so had to order a new one. Put it all together with not much trouble. Was playing Sonos on the stereo and the app tried to add the Roam, but wasn’t at a point to do that. Buttoned it up and damn thing quit working, so will try again after returning the battery I received today.
😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Thanks mate and good luck with your second attempt.
thanks, really interesting. Better at 1.25 playback speed ;-)
i’m wondering how many charge cycles this may get. I’d like to maximize that number - does anyone know the best way to treat this battery in terms of charging habits? (I do have the Sonos wireless charging base.)
I would say the same as lithium batteries in phones - keep it in the 20-80% charge range.
Is there a difference in the quality in music using that mp3 player that you have as opposed to using a music streaming service from your smart phone ?
The difference will be unnoticeable over a Bluetooth speaker so I use it with my headphones with a jack cable. The reason I used it in this video is because I was recording with my phone so couldn't use it.
What is the correct battery replacement? I clicked on the link and it brought me to a complete roam speaker
Great video. My roam is not working and SONOS customer support is a rip off .I really like the song do you know the name
Merci
thats actually quite repairable. surprised. unlike a certain fruit brand
🥰🥰🥰
Good but no passive radiator. So is not having enough bass ?
It does sound alright but for the price definitely not worth it go for a jbl flip 6
I think the bass sounds great honestly. It's a great speaker. But the jbl charge 5 may be alot better in comparison
@@dericklong6191jbls sound like shit so this will most likely win
Hi
My Sonos Roam has many Bluetooth connectivity issues, when I’m streaming the music pauses randomly, no matter which Music service I use. I don’t have any issues playing from the Sonos app or from Spotify through Wifi, but with Bluetooth is very unstable, I always remain my Roam very close to my iPhone, so there is not doubt that it shouldn’t fail, and I’ve never had this issue with other bluetoothed speakers, I’ve tryed to get in touch with the Sonos technical support from Mexico but they hang up immediately, reset the speaker to its factory settings, the same. How can I get someone who can help me with that being from Mexico? I have My Roam for 1 month, it’s new, it shouldn’t have any issues, I just want to know it’s Bluetooth antenna status: Is it damaged? Is it a firmware issue? I know the unit has to be configured with Wifi first, but it’s having issues with Bluetooth! seriously? Help!
😃👍👍👍
Wow bass ??
Merci mon ami 👍🏼
Had the music been cut short it would have been a great tutorial.
Love my two Roams - but "sticky tape" = IP standards is FAF!
Please make a video about comparing JBL charge 5 vs Sonos roam
They are not comparable bro. Charge 5 is way bigger and more powerful.
@@shaktastik but they are in same price category
@@amirkavousi4530 Its a bad comparison because the JBl charge 5 is only a bluetooth speaker with partyboost and the Roam is also a Wifi speaker supporting multi-room audio, voice assistant, automatic tuning and airplay 2. If you want a powerfull bluetooth speaker, go for JBL.
@@carnaubawasgerbrau8271 thank you very much🙏
Interesting how the speaker component is one unit with 2 transducers in it. I have only seen that in some TVs and a very specific brand and line of bookshelf speaker. The speaker tech, however, does not look in any way comparable to the jbl charge 5 or Bose soundlink flex, both of which I have torn down. They have passive radiators, increasing bass. True an acoustic suspension speaker design like this can be good, but it is second best in my opinion. The drivers looked very similar to the design inside the jbl charge 5, and the woofer is very much like the driver in the Bose flex in terms of the magnet and lower suspension components. It is impressive how good the tiny speaker in these products have evolved to be, especially the fact that those little tiny woofers, especially the JBL ones it seems, can move a whole ton! (And no, I’m not one of those “JBL bass test” you tubers. I hate those guys for overpowering, and completely destroying perfectly good speakers!)
Definitely right sir. I went to a barbecue at a friend's house and there was music playing. I thought there must be a speaker (from a system) brought out the window as the sound was quite full and loud. Enough for us 6 people to have to raise our voices a little when speaking. To my shock when I searched for it, it was actually a JBL Flip 5 Essential. Jesus when did tiny speakers get to this point? Well when companies took portable speakers seriously, I suppose. DSP is also a great thing.
Thing is I have two Symfonisks at home and they sound much larger than they actually are (especially after TruPlay) and they are tiny 3inch woofers with a tweeter. They are very much enough for an apartment. I can't even imagine what adding an arc+sub would sound like. Literraly unbelieveble where we've gotten with sound, software and speaker technology.
Cheers!
This is true, but two totally different design philosophies from an acoustic standpoint. More, or louder bass doesn't always translate to "better" bass. It seems that Sonos, in particular, uses mostly sealed enclosures for everything. The benefit is that sealed, or acoustic suspension designs are usually tighter and cleaner sounding than a radiator or ported system. This is especially true when you consider that most of these PR's are just weight plates attached to a surround and are far from linear. Cost and space saving, which I understand, but it leads to muddy sounding bass. Sealed is less efficient (you generally need double the amplifier power for the same SPL) than a PR or ported system, but I think Sonos actually targets an audience that is more critical than Bose and especially JBL. This sentiment is echoed in the use of a dedicated soft dome tweeter, which I'm a huge fan of. Proper engineering goes a long way!
I presume this obliterated the IP67 rating.
So based on what I'm seeing there's no passive radiator
Correct
Shak's Hacks why it had been built with no passive radiator
can it produce more bass if it is present ?
Why sonos dnt use passive bass radiators?
cheap made, cheap brand
It's a hard question. With passive radiators, you get more bass loudness/less distortion, but it forces a sharp roll-off of bass below a certain frequency. A sealed allows to push the system as low as you want (but you lose loudness), or design your roll-off shape. Sealed is a more versatile option. I guess, Sonos chose versatility.
@@scottykilmer1094sonos is NOT cheap. The drivers are also really good.
i must admit they sound just as good like the Bose, but the connections are really poor. They often only have Wifi connection nothing more, no Aux, No Bluetooth .
Why on earth did they make the battery so difficult to replace?!
They want you to buy a new speaker 🙂
@@shaktastik designed for the dumpster 😥
Oh! It is monophonic and does not have passive radiators! Jmmmm...
Jbl Charge 5 mini wow
moim zdaniem ten głośnik wygląda jak z bazarku za 5zł
Came here after Alan Ross s video 😎
Those are not hex.... lol
They are Torx obviously
Klungel
For it's price. No.
Way too small to actually be room filling.
It is not very good for almost 200 bucks the jbl flip 6 is better
@@kailumgg6720 jbl is horrible. And I'm a JBL fan..
Got the charge 5 and It was faulty like 6 times, Got 3 new ones and 2 repairs.. now it's faulty again and I'm yet to receive a response... God i hope there's something good on the market / jbl step up their quality
@@Kayshots yes the jbl charge 5 has some problems but I definitely recommend the flip 6 it is a great speaker or if you have the money I definitely recommend the boombox 2 I have it and it is awesome the bass is incredible the mids and highs are perfect and the battery last a long time
This is a bullshit product. If it is this hard to replace the battery, I will never buy this shit.
Just a mono speaker
can stereo-pair (wi-fi only)
sound is amazing
Literally everyone's roam is dead after 1.5 years. This is just unacceptable. Never buy anything from Sonos again.
jbl flip 6 is better
Yes the sonos roam is a ripoff almost 200 bucks for a 20w speaker and you can buy the flip 6 for 120 bucks and have a 30w speaker
The roam sounded better than the charge 5 so I doubt it is
@@pixelreflectorpro " its better than the charge 5" first of all the charge 5 is cheaper, better sound, can charge ur phone its overall a better speaker
@@kawesomer4334 the charge 5 at max volume sounds worse than tv speakers for some reason
Plus you can find a mifa wildbox that is cheaper and better than the charge 5 that can do the same things as the charge 5 and more plus and your getting deep bass
