I went to the 25th anniversary concert of this at the Kennedy Center a few years ago. And, many of the original vocalists revived their parts but there were some other fills ins. It was great! At that time Mervyn Warren said that The Handel Foundation (or society) had officially named this version of The Messiah as an official version. That's very cool. To us it always was...

Hello from Barbados. Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you and yours! It ain't Christmas without this song right here. I just love it. It was the closing song at my old church (Greater Allen Cathedral) in New York every Christmas. We would turn off all the light in the sanctuary and light faux candles then sing this to our hearts content and God's glory. Hallelujah!

Mervyn Warren attended Oakwood University it was Oakwood College when he attended. His father was actually the Provost at Oakwood for years! And Mervin was an original member of Take 6! He did an amazing job scoring this song! #Proudoakwoodite
Yes! Let's stand up Oakwoodites. In 2017 when I had my 20th anniversary, they were also doing a tribute to Mervyn Warren. And in true Oakwood fashion, the congregation sang this perfectly. I'm sure there is a link on RUclips somewhere.

I came by this video Christmas Eve morning 2023 at 1:30 a.m. This is one of my favorite songs at Christmas and year round. My neighbor introduced me to this C.D. back in 1992 at Christmas. I later found the C.D. at Circuit City and it's been a part of my C.D. collection for almost 30 years. The part of this song that touches me is when Daryl Coley sings, the Government shall be on it shoulders and he (GOD Almighty) shall reign forever and ever. I think about the turmoil in the United States Government and the entire world is in today. Government (politicians) think they know what's best for us and try to tell us how to raise our children and to accept transgenderism and other foolishness. Praise God, the Government shall be on it shoulder because God Almighty is tired of all the foolishness, fornication, war, killings, car-jackings, crime, and Sodom & Gomorrah occurring on the earth. We will soon see the Archangels sent down by God from Heaven to destroy mankind. The Government don't want you to say Merry Christmas anymore. Now it's happy holidays. Tomorrow is the 25th of December is Christmas Day and I am Christian (Catholic) and I suppose to worry about offending others by saying Merry Christmas. This country and society is a hot mess. I will say it again as stated in this song, the Government shall be on it shoulders and God shall reign forever and ever. 🙏🙏🙏

One of my FAVORITE albums ever!!! The arrangements and vocals are incredible and so quintessential of the Mervyn Warren sound. Not only is he one of the founding members of Take6, but he is also the genius behind "Ode To Joy (Joyful Joyful)" from Sister Act 2. Quincy Jones is one the best producers to ever do it. To get all of these amazing singers, composers, musicians, and actors in the same room to KILL such a powerful anthem is a feat, and he made it happen. THIS is the 90s, the glory days of gospel and every gospel-inspired genre. We had the best of every flavor! I think the only well-known person alive today that could pull anything close to this off is Babyface.

I’ve been on Handel’s Messiah heavy this year… the story behind the music is so interesting. Handel wrote the whole composition in 24 days!! The Hallelujah chorus specifically he said it looked like a scroll opened up in his bedroom during his fasting and he saw angels in Heaven singing the hallelujah chorus and he wrote what he was hearing!! That give me goosebumps!!! 😆🙌🏽💖

May I make a small request that, when you can, please take a moment to do a video on Marilyn McCoo, who is one of the sopranos in this video. Her range is amazing. She can sing high and low. As a member of the 5th Dimension, she gain national notoriety, as well as her fellow group member and husband, Billy Davis, Jr. (who IMO is another underrated soul singer with a voice of gold). Marilyn and Billy both still make music and tour today. I would love to hear your take on her vocals.
I love them both and the 5th Dimension. I grew up in the 60's listening to their music in Washington, DC. I have one of their C.D.'s in my music collection. I am from the old school born in 1955 and their music was real music, not the garbage we're hearing today.
