  • Ketron Event VS Ketron SD9 Pro
Comparativa entre Ketron Event y Ketron SD9, estilos y sonidos.
A quick comparison between 2 of the best arrangers of the market Ketron Event and Ketron SD9 Pro. Please leave your comments.
    My impression:
The Event is divided in 3 different parts, very clear, and has increased the size of the buttons twice something good, because makes it easier to press them. Also has include something back from the Audya which are direct buttons for the style families and sounds families, which is very practical and the SD9 does not have it. I also like a lot something back from the Audya, which is a Vocoder activation button, and a fader volume regulator. It has in the right part direct effect buttons that SD9 does not have. The 7" display keeps the same size like SD9, I thought Ketron will increase the size at least like the 9" from Genos, to make a difference in usability from the SD9, but they didn't . Concerning the quality material of the Event, is a bit disappointed, on the top and on the sides. Both the Audya and the SD9 have a much more robust and professional finish, since they are completely metallic. The Event has the sides made of plastic or a similar material, but it is not metallic like SD9 and Audya, and the top part is much less robust than the Audya and the SD9, SD60, etc. It is metallic but weaker than the SD9 or Audya. It is also bright, that makes it easier to have scratches than in the SD9 which is mate finish. You can check this test comparing both materials: • Ketron Event VS Ketron...
It is assumed that a flagship keyboard should not have lowered quality in the finish case, either improve it or at least maintain it. I understand that the reason is to lower the weight, but I honestly prefer to have 1,2 kg more (14,8Kg vs 16Kg) but a very robust finish. It must be borne in mind that when you buy a keyboard of this category and this price, you expect maximum quality in everything. Neither is according to its price that it has an external power supply like the SD9, but rather that it should have an internal power supply like the Audya, Genos, PAX series. The size of the Event its wider than the SD9 by putting false keys on the sides, which makes it bigger, although it has less depth. The style banks do not provide new families such as movies soundtracks, new age, etc. that Yamaha or Korg have. In the sounds banks I have not noticed a great difference except in some specific ones compared with SD9 and Audya. It sounds more brilliant, more similar to Yamaha type of sounds, this is something I don't like, I prefer less brilliance like Ketron has been doing always. Event has many improvements over the SD9 with a dynamic bass, new guitars, better sampler, articulation voices, real/midi drums, and so on, and its a great keyboard, but when balancing between the overall aspects, like the finish of the keyboard compared to the robustness of the SD9 (something very important for possible fractures due to the daily gigs), many similar sounds and styles, even losing sounds that I like from SD9 that are not in the Event anymore... general brilliant tone of the Event sounds, the question is, is it worth to exchange SD9 for Event? I think this will depend on each person taste, needs and usage. In my case maybe is not worth because I use the SD9 mainly for style accompaniment while I play de piano, for singing, and the styles from the SD9 are already extraordinary, I like more the case because its less wide, stronger and mate, but in other cases maybe is worth the change to the Event.

Frankly, both keyboards sound great. Typical Ketron's great sound. Event has more "presence" and the arrangement sounds more real for me. Probably due to its more advanced audio engine. When it comes to voices comparison I don't see a clear winner. Last but not least, thanks a lot for publishing this video!

👏👏👏👏👏. Festas felizes para você

Thank You for this Comparsion and for your impression. I think like you, for this price it should be in best quality and more professional Finish. But look what others do: Yamaha Genos is cheapast Plastic and costs also more than 4.000.-€ But for me is the Sound from the Ketron the Best to make People moving and swinging. And that is for me the most important thing. I am a Musician who like to feel a instrument and I need the inspiration from Styles and Sounds. I found it only by Ketron. You are right, if you own a sd9 I see no reasons to change to the event, but for me is no option: I sold my genos and ordered a Event. All the Best to You - keep on doing Music😀

@@thomaswolff9740 I play for a 3X20 audience (salsa, tango, rock'n'roll, 70's disco, waltz, madison, twist, etc.) No modern music. I sold my tyros 4 for a Genos. I regret.
550 styles and only 30 that I need .. 20 styles that are the same as my Tyros 4 ; and 5 styles that are better (5 !!!) and 5 other styles that are not so good. To play the styles I use, the PSR SX 900 does the same but it costs €2000 less!
I'm thinking of returning my Genos to the store and taking : PSR SX 900 + Ketron SD 40 ... for the same price!
Do you know the difference between ketron SD 7 and SD 9?
I too want an instrument that moves the public to make them dance!
      I have the choice :
      1) I keep my Genos
      2) PSR SX 900 + Ketron SD 40
      3) Ketron Event
Do you have any advice for me ?

@@lambertkonings3371 Hello, I can only give you the Tip: Number 3) Buy the Event. Why? It is the newest System with all the possibiltis You need. You can use Full Audio Styles or a Mix between Audio and Midi or Midi Styles like Sd40 or 90. You have no trouble with connection theSX 900 and the SD40. You are free to make your own Styles for the special Music You need.
I do near the same Music like You, and believe me - only with Ketron You will find the Groove what People makes moving. And special the simple Styles like a Ballad with Drums Base and Guitar are fantastic and sound like real Musicians and not like a Keyboard. I hope this can help you a little.

Switching from Tyros 4 to Genos cost me a lot of money ! All of Yamaha's investment in the Genos is in modern music and I don't need it ... Genos = 550 styles and just one twist ! No Lambada, no mambo N°5, no good 70's or 80's disco...
I'm afraid Ketron did the same with the Event.
I have four musician friends who play old styles like me. We play for seniors (3 X 20 years old) coming out of a dance school. All four regret the SD9 because they preferred the old Audya version or even the SD8.
Can you tell me if the Ketron Event styles are better than the SD9 styles for ballroom dancing (Salsa, mambo, 70's disco Boney M, YMCA + 80's disco Patrick Hernandez, Kool & The Gang, Tom Jones, and many others ...

Let me say that both keyboards are great, but making a clear comparison via RUclips is impossible.
You have to play them both yourself to be able to compare properly, it is not only the sound that makes a keyboard different or better, but the technique is also important.
In addition, styles and sounds are often a bit polished in a new keyboard such as the Event here. Then you also have the effects that have been used per style and sound, not to mention the Master settings of the keyboard. If all these sound and styles settings are not the same, you will always hear a difference.
But I maintain that ultimately the innovation/upgrade of technology often makes the difference. How a keyboard will actually sound depends mainly on the person playing the keyboard. Most demos are performed by trained musicians who know these keyboards inside and out and it will always sound good!
So if you are unsure whether you want to buy an SD9 or Event or any other brand of keyboard, go to a local dealer and listen to it and play it yourself, that is the only and best way to avoid disappointment.

Every time Ketron brings out a new arranger I have my doubts.
They have good sounds for sure.
But with Ketron I allways think think it’s not a upgrade to something new,
They don’t have a sigment between afortable and expensive.
I still play older Solton/Ketron instruments.
The X1 is for me still good enough or it must completly be onrepairble then I would make a choice about getting a new Ketron.

I think, it depends to the songs you play and the way you play. When you prefer a solid rhythm section, the Event advantages about audio phrases wouldn't have much impact. If you prefer to use organ, piano and synthesizer sounds, the articulations won't make the difference to you.

Meanwhile the possible improvements are few. I play a Yamaha Tyros 3 and use the SD90 drums with a compatible user kit I made and so it sounds much better.
Would Ketron demonstrate the styles from the style USB thumb drives, I would possibly buy them, but I found demonstration for 4 only, 3 of them were available. And also some examples from the original Audya, that are on one more stick.

Yamaha dropped audio drums. By the way, in PSR S970 and Tyros 5 it wasn't done the best way, short pattern, less brilliance etc.
Ketron has more livelike arrangements, much closer to a good session drummer, Genos doesn't sound bad, but more like a very disciplined drummer never playing different from the score.
On the other hand, it's noticeable, that they analyzed the playing style and recostructed it. More flexibility, but it's a simulation, not a recording of a drummer.
