"One of the most beautiful Christmas songs of this past period. It’s absolutely an incredible song."
Originally recorded in 1987 by The Pogues, the song was sung by Kirsty MacColl and Shane MacGowan and featured on the album ‘If I Should Fall from Grace with God’.
Shane MacGowan & The Popes were appearing on ‘The Late Late Show’ fresh from a sold out concert at The Olympia Theatre.

Now this is something very special Shane with Mother Therese and The Popes, you will travel many long miles across hard and rocky roads also across over good and bad lands before you see the likes of this amazing happening again, this is one of the treasures of life. May Shane, his deary mother, Kirsty and all Pogues and Popes members who passed on now rest in eternal peace in Heaven

Immer am saufen. Der war schon immer total kaputt! Schade um das Talent!
Seine Lieder hat er trotzdem gut gesungen
He was allways drunk.. 🫣
Calling the Pogues his "backing band" is probably the biggest insult ever.
He's a part of the band. But now suddenly on Top of the Pops they are his "backup band"
It's the same mentality for Gwen Stefani and No Doubt. Suddenly they were her "backup band"
Well, that's because it 's not "The Pogues" but "The Popes" in this clip.
... so Shane is in fact the only member from The Pogues in the clip. The Popes was Shane's "backing band" during several years from the 90s to the early 2000s.
The song was obviously based on his mum and dad as Shane never had a real relationship and hos mum and dad was messed up
So his relationship to his wife Victoria (his girlfriend since the 80s that he married a few years before his death) is not a "real" relationship? He also had several girlfriends before that. So you're wrong, very wrong. The song has nothing to do with his parents relationship.
Go and learn then come back. What?
lolwut
The Irish need to learn about dentists.
The Americans need to learn about slimfast.
The body of a Whale.. but great nashers!
Anything for money
Iys scary how parents can mess you up badly! She wrecked him
We not here to judge
Wow.....!!
There's always a negative Nancy in the comments..!!
Sucks to be you..!!
Always looking for the negativity in life and something to bitch about...!
There's a reason your life is miserable.!
Negative energy attracts NEGATIVE energy..!!
It's time you turned that frown upside down.!
Everyone is entitled to be pissed off..!!
But to project your negativity onto the world is pathetic.!!
That’s life and it’s how it was drink or not it was a tough life but one got through it god only knows how but it was life so don’t judge it was life then but you have no bitterness against anyone thank god ❤❤❤❤
Fairytale of New York - Shane & Therese MacGowan with The Popes, 2000 0402am 10.9.24 i like both parties involved, here.... but the song!! nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..... no more of this. it's enough to induce the hate filled venom and ire in a man as articulated within this ditty.... which may have been the plan? no more of this. take it away.....
Best Christmas song ever!
Crazy to think the original co singer Kirsty Mccoll was killed 3 days after this performance. She died on the 18th of Dec 2000. 😢
@@seamusburke9101 Comments on ‘Fairytale of New York - Shane & Therese MacGowan with The Popes, 2000’ 10.9.24 0915AM and new year's..and ad hoc just slap it on the deck for a bit cos i'm said... and just slip it on the deck to recall sean...or kirsty... and... etc etc etc... great song. just so overy used and and then some to have one wonder..... why do i even bother? my copy was stolen so it is indeed craved... just wouldn't get a play on my decks until 2050.
@@ddowneylfc Fairytale of New York - Shane & Therese MacGowan with The Popes, 2000 0917am 10.9.24 i was in two minds as to whether or not believe the story about her demise... you just can't trust the media... yeah the guy who wokrs down the chip shop claims his elvis was also a worthy song. but, again, overly used... i think you need to go and seek out the smiths cover versions she performed or the work she created with johnny marr to heave a sigh ofrelief....
Explain yourself lad?
