Some comments regarding the grip discussion:
The stacked grip does not need to be palm up. In fact some, like well recognized forehand specialist Scott Stokely, are very much against throwing palm up but still recommend the stacked grip to start out learning forhand.
Completely missing from the discussion is the sometimes called "super finger grip", noticeably used by guys like Nate Sexton and Ryan Sheldon. Nate having one of the best forehands accuracy wise and Ryan having the outright most powerful forehands in disc golf setting records for both speed and distance. Generally underrated grip I would say.

Love this series, including Brian E. as the instructor. For this one specifically, I think it was a good idea to bring Aaron in to add his expertise in this area. One comment I have is that I typically find that my forehand "wing angle" tends to tilt up as I finish the throw. And this is more exaggerated when I add more power. So I usually have to remember to tilt the "wing angle" more down (away from me) on longer forehand drives. I also need to do this on forehand upshots if I want the disc to fade at the end (even more stable midranges).

Good information. I have a couple of remarks. First, watching their form the palm isn't "up" in the sense many would think. I believe that thinking "palm up" is useful to help counteract the tendency to roll their wrist over, which pretty much always results in poor aim and off axis torque. Second, at least for me thinking of it in terms of a shuffle into a forward lunge is helpful as I'm working on it. Pointing the last lunge-esque step forward will turn the hips forward as part of the kinetic chain.

I currently have 5 discs in my bag that I use for forehand depending on the shot I need; ESP Surge, Big Z Zone, ESP Zone, Neutron Crave, and Neutron Relay. The Surge I never throw backhand, and is my go-to distance shot. I can throw it flat, get slight turn and a consistent finish or on hyzer with a skip finish. My Zones are used for my pitch and scramble forehands. The ESP is a nicely worn-in for a slightly straighter flight. Whereas the Big Z, even if I throw it flat, it's going right. I use the Crave when I need a dead-straight shot. I use the Relay when I need a forehand shot to finish to the left, just put it on a little anny, and can get it to turn then finish flat.

My forehand is utter garbage. Been trying to work on it for a while but the biggest thing that screws me up is trying to keep it close to my body. If I extend my arm out (just like you did at 9:01) I get pretty good distance and clean release.
At 9:01, in my opinion, your arm is pretty far out and away from your body. What is my brick of a brain not putting together correctly here? How does verbal instruction to keep my arm close to my body translate to the extension in your arm at 9:01?
Even Aaron at 10:47 says keep that elbow in but immediately before throws with what I would consider an extended ish arm. The gap between elbow and waist looks to be at least 18 inches.
Besides that, thank you for this series. It's the best RUclips instructional series I've come across by miles. Very much appreciated.

    • @arvopenaali896
      @arvopenaali896 Год назад +1

It means you need to lead with the elbow. And I suppose timing the throw with the body turning. Keeping elbow close will not get anyone the distance. But every forehand video it gets repeated. No clue why.

this made me feel a lot better about my game LOL i'm basically forehand only atm. I've been doing man of the things mentioned just not... all the time .. Ive working on consistency more and little by little it's getting there but i'd love to be able to get to 400 + .. currently I'm throwing about 280-330 with an 8 speed with like a 2 step walk up. I used to have a run up but found i was WAY too inconsistent i'd be able to throw 260-280 max before but i never knew where it was going
i normally used a fan grip and keep debating on trying the power just to see if it does anything I just feel i have less stability/ angle control previously but i've also come a decent way since

here's something that may help when it comes to grip:
i broke my right hand, where it attaches to the wrist, so my 'power grip' wrist movement is clicky and never gonna be reliably strong, with my recreational regimen. so i throw standard stack grip most of the time.
but when i want power, the one finger grip is huge for my flexibility and range of motion, if you can just get the hang of the release. i have ripped sidearms further than my backhand that way. also i have played guitar for a long time so that range of motion in the wrist mimics 'strumming' on my picking hand, and the muscles and tone are built up well for it.
just something to think about when you see someone whip a forearm 400 feet: either they are a sick rhythym guitar player, or very... lonely.

been backhanding for 20 years. i cant for the life of me get the stacked grip down. 1 finger just feels much more comfortable. on the flip side of that token, i know im lacking spin on my shots. lately been burning out my disc to the left ( im a right hander). either that or ill release my disc wobbly which kills my spin. going to try focusing on keeping the disc level throughout my entire shot, only trouble is convincing my brain that whipping my arm from high up (like brian was touching on where he could see the bottom of the shooters disc) is incorrect, since ive been doing that for 20 years :/

You very likely lack flexibility in your forearm and rotator cuff. I’ve been playing since ‘95 and only developed my forehand in the past 2 years. It took me 6 months of mobility work to get the OAT out of my forehands. No one ever talks about range of motion in these movements. Look at Eagle’s videos and just notice how far back his wrist cocks while just holding the disc, not in motion but just holding it.
