This was the best teaching video I’ve seen that explains the process of the X step with the explanation of cause and effect of the correct and incorrect methods used. I also really like drills that correct incorrect methods. Lastly the presentation and filming of this material was top notch. Even being right handed it was perfectly clear. Can’t wait to see what I can learn next. Thanks again for sharing this wonderful information with us all.
I will glady buy a Discraft disc every time Brian posts a 15+ minute video with this much info. Definitely the best and most in-depth vid I've seen on the XStep. Would love to see a video on how to throw mids far (height, nose angle, spin vs speed, etc). Thanks Brian!
Ok will join in. As a bloody hell beginner getting par on short simple courses only what is the first discraft disc to buy to thank for this vid? Recommendations welcome😊
i’m an old “EX ex-athlete”…. feet in their own lanes… perpendicular to target…. 1st time trying it without fieldwork-- dramatic difference in hitting target lines, and a 15-20 foot distance boost, and it feels like i can add more thank you!!!!!
I’m new to the sport and have watched many videos and read many books. This the BEST explanation of the X-Step that has made me throw BETTER. Thank you.
Brian! This is incredible! Total game changer. Having to rethink the way my feet are moving and actually make the change has increased the distance and accuracy of my entire game. It’s also opened my eyes to why my Wife’s been struggling with her distance as she played softball (catcher, pitcher, & left field) for most of her life. We are watching this together tonight before our round tomorrow and guarantee it’s going to help her 10-fold. Thanks for breaking this fundamental process down and making it super easy to put into action. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Best tutorial for disc golf I have ever seen. Should be the first thing every beginner disc golfer puts their energies too. All the greats have a rhythm. Like that x-step. If you watch Simon L. throw off the tee...in videos where you can't see his feet or legs during run up...there is NO up and down motion. He just floats across the screen. All forward momentum. It looks like magic.
Thank you, Brian Earhart. I am using your modified 1-step drill as my drive when I am in tighter places or with poorer lies. And the 3-step Xstep you describe here (versus the more complicated and confusing 5-step Xstep) is a Godsend. Finally, clarity! You are the man! If I improve beyond these two drives, that is fine. If I don't, these two drives should serve me well for the long haul.
I watched this earlier today and played a round afterwards. I took 4 strokes off my best ever score. This was exactly what I needed to see. Thank you!!!
Wow, this video is incredible. I've watched many videos on driving form and have never seen one that explains all these points so well. I also really appreciate the drills. I knew my X-Step needed a lot of work, and now I know what to work on!
This is good stuff , no gimics .. just straight forward . Best coaching I’ve seen. Alot if other teaching videos out there can actually be detrimental to a player , but Brian this was science in motion !! Perfect practice video
Goddamn this was good. As a Lefty myself, it was great to see it in the same form as I would be in but with excellent communication from Brian. Even the drills are straightforward and idiot proof and can do nothing but help you.
I’ve been trying to figure out why I lack power for years. This video has showed me I have a long way to go. Great information here. I think I was doing every mistake mentioned. Excited to work on this. Who knew the x step had so much going on? Thank you very much.
Phenomenal video. Can't wait to get out to the course and try a couple of these tips. I always thought my cross step was way too big. This video goes into great detail as to why it happens and how to fix it, and also provides some easy simple drills!
wow thanks friend. I have autism and I get frustrated with myself and don’t have any disc golfing buddies. I get really nervous practicing in public. Especially my exercises and form. But I’m working on my confidence I really loved this tutorial. I am unsure if I was doing any of these but now I can focus on what I should be doing with my x step and getting it consistent:)
Thank you for the video! I am guilty of a long “cross step”… I have been struggling with correcting it and this video gives me the guidance I need! Thanks again!
Love the breakdown. Been waiting for this video for a long time! Kernels of some of this guide have been sprinkled elsewhere but it’s so illuminating to have it connected together as one complete thought. Thanks!
Good stuff, & thank you. I too am a South Paw. I've been practicing my X-Step, and you touched on some key elements that I'm gonna go try RFN!! :) Cheers, Gman
YEAH I just found your other Left Handed videos that went with this video Much Appreciated 🤝 I agree 100% with your followers comments as being one of the best to best videos to learn from Well Done 👏 You Da Man 🕺
Wow this was such an amazing video. I have had this misconception that the feet behind was supposed to swing back behind and towards the same line as the front. Such a great video and demonstration on how the weight carries through
Brian, you sir, are an amazing coach. I kept thinking I had to “drive” my hips towards the basket but you showed a key movement I was neglecting.. the trail foot pivot that creates the brace.
Great tutorial. I'd like to see a video of throwing with height and keeping the disc level. All my drives are 6 feet off the ground, and I tend to throw nose up trying to get height for a turnover shot.
Hah 14:42 . that me opening before I plant the front foot. Superb video. Too bad its the end of the season in northern NY. Five months off before tournaments.
Thank you! Overenthusiastic newbie here whose poor form (rounding / all arm) caused me elbow pain so had to shut down for several weeks. Just getting back into it w stand still drives focusing on form & using putters and mids only for now. Ready to level up by adding an X-Step to my drives and this vid will guide me into the glorious light of 300+ throws methinks lol. Thank you sir!
Thank you so much for making this. My husband I have just started playing and I'm awful. I don't have the best coordination and trying to learn to do the whole X step all at once is not working well. The way you break it down to practice parts of it in bites to help train muscle memory might be just the thing I need. I'm not trying to be the best disk golfer ever. I'm just trying not to completely suck at it. 😂
Love, love, love this video. Best one I have seen in my 7 years of playing. I will be sharing it with everyone. Force feeding if necessary 😂. Please do a video on proper weight shifting and how important the off arm and off leg are to the throw. Thank you!
We're glad you love it! Brian is amazing at making these tips digestible for all players. He also pops into the comments from time-to-time for ideas, so stayed tuned! You might see that in an upcoming video :)
This was an awesome video thank you. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, but the last thing my mind was thinking was the x-step. I kept shifting different things and wasn't changing the result, but never really broke down my x-step. At least 3 of the things you pointed out as wrong i know i do. It will take some retraining mentally, but i think this is where i can improve most. I lost all my momentum and end up strong arming the disc which ends up very inconsistent.
Such a good video. Tips that can actually be applied. Thank you!!! I agree with Jean, I will also buy a disk if the content is this good! Well, I will have to buy a bag first because my beginner bag only holds 8 disks
I been told to use the back foot to drive the throw like in this. And power arming a disc wasn't going far as when I used my hips after a round to really try it. Need to get to a field over the winter or in my backyard and work on this stuff. I have a golf net as well
I usually throw 250 and have had some fluke throws at or slightly over 300. This may be the reason. My footwork was probably accodently cleaner. Now i will conscientiously work on this
A detailed walkthrough of nose angles would be great. Ie how to get consistent nose down drives and any drill or tips for fixing nose up releases to get more distance. I've been working on form to improve distance trying to get to that elusive consistent 400+ ft drive, and I always have to think about what I'm doing to make sure I get my weight over my toes so I don't pull or lean back and sky it into an unwanted hyzer. Any other tips you have for getting to that 400+ ft distance would also be great!
Brian-- I've been doing the plant-step "baseball style" for about as long as I've been playing (8 years). Plant-stepping slightly forward as you (and others) recommend affects my aim downfield. My RHBH throws now go in the direction of that plant step; generally left of my driving target. How do I correct or compensate my throw or "aim" for this footwork change? Great video, by the way.
Hello 👋 I've been playing for one full yr now as a Lefty - im 62 yrs young - I can't seem to throw my disc before hitting the ground at 180 feet - I throw more less at a adverage 150 - 165 sometimes a really good throw for me is 175 feet I just watched this video - Do you have any videos as in throwing Left Handed Thanks for making these impressive important videos
The best tutorial I have seen on the X step so far, including the drills! (Total beginner)
brian is soooo good at technical explanations. thank you for this! love the series
Free education from one of the best professionals and as a LHBH player helps me a lot! Thanks Brian!
This was the best teaching video I’ve seen that explains the process of the X step with the explanation of cause and effect of the correct and incorrect methods used. I also really like drills that correct incorrect methods. Lastly the presentation and filming of this material was top notch. Even being right handed it was perfectly clear. Same. Discraft does a great job with its players and education of us mere mortals. Not to mention making some of the best discs on the market.
Ok will join in. As a bloody hell beginner getting par on short simple courses only what is the first discraft disc to buy to thank for this vid? Recommendations welcome😊
i’m an old “EX ex-athlete”…. feet in their own lanes… perpendicular to target…. 1st time trying it without fieldwork-- dramatic difference in hitting target lines, and a 15-20 foot distance boost, and it feels like i can add more
thank you!!!!!
This is easily the best instructional video on backhand technique I've seen so far on RUclips. Excellent work
Brian just took the best parts of every X-Step video from the past and put them into one video.
I’m new to the sport and have watched many videos and read many books. This the BEST explanation of the X-Step that has made me throw BETTER. Thank you.
I don't see many left hand disc golf teachers being left handed myself is why i subscribed. Great video too
Great breakdown of the x-step. It all starts from the ground up!
Damn, you saw right through my form. Really good stuff, Brian. Looking forward to more!
Brian! This is incredible! Total game changer. Having to rethink the way my feet are moving and actually make the change has increased the distance and accuracy of my entire game. The troublesgooting is so valuable when trying to learn this, the most thorough explanation on RUclips! Plus drills!
Whether or not their discs are my favorite this is easily the best X-step video I’ve ever seen.
So awesome watching a lefty break it down. Thank you Brian
Fantastic drills. Brian is a superb coach

wow, never thought i would have to work on my footwork lol, explaining that cross step was life altering
I watched this earlier today and played a round afterwards. I took 4 strokes off my best ever score. This was exactly what I needed to see. Thank you!!!
This is the best recap i have ever seen online Thanks for explaining the footwork
Wow, this video is incredible. I've watched many videos on driving form and have never seen one that explains all these points so well. I also really appreciate the drills. I knew my X-Step needed a lot of work, and now I know what to work on!
Best vid I've seen on the X-step. Looking forward to seeing more Deep Dive. Thanks Brian
The Applicable/Practice-able technical detail...what a great video! (And, Yes...The Papers want to know Who's shoes you wear.).
This is game changing. Been working on my footwork but became aware that I was still missing some key "steps." Thanks for the great tips.
Level Up Putting!!!!
I'm only halfway through the video and I'm already blown away by this. Great explanation of the x-step. I'm going to pause and try some things out!
This is good stuff , no gimics .. just straight forward . Best coaching I’ve seen. Alot if other teaching videos out there can actually be detrimental to a player , but Brian this was science in motion !! Perfect practice video

Brian is an amazing coach! A video on timing and lag would be awesome
Brian this was an excellent video! Would love to see some tutorials on how to play in the wind. Putting/Up-shots/Drives/Disc Selection.
Very good teaching. And it is so awesome to see a lefty.
Phenomenal video. Can't wait to get out to the course and try a couple of these tips. I always thought my cross step was way too big. This video goes into great detail as to why it happens and how to fix it, and also provides some easy simple drills!
This explanation is pure gold!!

super clear and easily applicable. Thank you!
Thank you for the video! I am guilty of a long “cross step”… I have been struggling with correcting it and this video gives me the guidance I need! Thanks again!
What a treasure man. He's such a brilliant teacher.
Great Video Brian, one of the best and most detailed I've seen on proper DG footwork. PS hello from Lockport and J-town ;-)
BEARHART laying down the x step law! This is an amazing video
Really well made video. Production value is a plus and the material is explained flawlessly!

Best footwork video ever. Thank you
You found both of my problems in my form, this is super helpful
Brian is a wizard, all of this stuff is so helpful
YEAH I just found your other Left Handed videos that went with this video
Much Appreciated 🤝
I agree 100% with your followers comments as being one of the best to best videos to learn from
Well Done 👏
You Da Man 🕺
Great info, I'll watch this many times. Thank you
Excellent tutorial! Thanks so much👽
An excellent breakdown as always!
Very informative! Brian is such a great teacher and explains things so well
As somebody that already throws 300, you called out all the weaknesses I've been trying to identify. Gonna work on those drills!!!
Thanks Brian, you do a great job explaining things and I will definitely be trying these drills!
Wow this was such an amazing video. I have had this misconception that the feet behind was supposed to swing back behind and towards the same line as the front. Such a great video and demonstration on how the weight carries through
Incredibly informative. I’d love to hear Brian’s breakdowns of grip(s) and nose angle(s).
This was great! Would love to see one on the heel pivot
Hah 14:42
. that me opening before I plant the front foot. Superb video. Too bad its the end of the season in northern NY. Five months off before tournaments.
Since I know Brian is left handed, that thumbnail broke my brain.
Also, great video. Thanks Brian!
What a great instructional video! Thank you!

Great video Brian, breaking it down to be leveling up. Headed to pick up an iPhone tripod.
Love, love, love this video. Best one I have seen in my 7 years of playing. I will be sharing it with everyone. Force feeding if necessary 😂. Please do a video on proper weight shifting and how important the off arm and off leg are to the throw. Thank you!

I practiced this drill in my kitchen which has 12 x 12 floor tiles. They help me keep track of where my feet are at each step in terms of the lanes.
This was an awesome video thank you. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, but the last thing my mind was thinking was the x-step. would love to see a video about how to consistently "find" the power pocket
Great stuff. Please do a video on bracing and pivot
Brian, love the video ... an amazing explanation. How does this differ for stand still / approach shots?
Awesome advice.
Such a good video. Tips that can actually be applied. Thank you!!! I agree with Jean, I will also buy a disk if the content is this good! Well, I will have to buy a bag first because my beginner bag only holds 8 disks
Good video Bearheart!
Thank you! This is a great video and very informative.
Solid advice!
Thanks for the video. I have been struggling a bit, I am certain this will help.

definitely getting some footwork drills asap
i like these concepts. Thanks!
Great video
Would love to see an in depth of proper use of the upper body as well . Also what goes on with the eyes in the throw .
Great video and explanation!
This is so helpful! Thank you!!
Brian is the man
Great tips, love these vids!!! Any tips on improving straight pull through/ eliminating “air bounce”?
Great tutorial.
We did the x step for a college baseball drill. I throw forehand x step disc
Awesome video, very informative. By the way; like the shoe's. Looks like they have good ankle support. Where can I get a pair?
Really great video! Now, how do I couple this with the reach back and release?
I usually throw 250 and have had some fluke throws at or slightly over 300. This may be the reason. My footwork was probably accodently cleaner. Now i will conscientiously work on this
A detailed walkthrough of nose angles would be great. Ie how to get consistent nose down drives and any drill or tips for fixing nose up releases to get more distance. Scott Stokely has a video that really helped me get the nose angle down. It's called something like "Stop throwing a disc nose up!"
It's funny (but sad) how all of the "this is what people do wrong" could just be videos of me, lol. Great video!
My go to forehand disc's are my captains raptor or my machete .
thank you!
I didn't know Brian was a bug squisher.
Brian-- I've been doing the plant-step "baseball style" for about as long as I've been playing (8 years). Plant-stepping slightly forward as you (and others) recommend affects my aim downfield.
