If you don't mind listening to a long/rambling comment from an ex-band and choir kid, I'd love to explain what the deal is with being able to sing for so long! (Please feel free to skip it if you're not interested.) So the interesting thing about being able to sing for long periods of time is that it has two components: 1. Practice at tolerating carbon dioxide - to a certain extent, you can ignore the burning/uncomfortable feeling and hold you breath. If you don't practice your body will panic/cause your heart to speed up and you will use too much oxygen. 2. Not using too much oxygen. If you dance around and such you will get too much carbon dioxide and won't be able to keep holding your breath in. If you have those two components you will be able to sing for long periods of time. You can also play instruments such as the oboe (which uses very little air -- literally you have to learn to breathe out more than in when you're playing it) effectively.
