So here it is. The first figure from the new Star Wars Anthology Movie: Solo. The titular character is a little known person from the Star Wars universe named Han Solo. I doubt you've heard of him. Check this review out to get more info on this "blink and you'll miss him" character!

@@MikeKaess And a good idea it was. I just got my Solo figure from Gamestop on clearance for $15.00 today, and it was a steal. I had to fit it with an extra (blue) Luke Saber to get him to be a Jacen figure, since it was all I had, but he looks great next to my Han, Leia, and Jaina Solo family.
Solo wave started new articulation trend with dumbbell joints in the head, giving them more "attitude" and posability. It's great. Han, Lando, and Qi'Ra all have it. Good review, Mike. 😉

I dont get the problem of the actor not looking too much like Harrison Ford, i recently saw a picture of myself when i was about 20, some time ago, not saying how long!!. and i couldnt believe the difference, it didnt look like me lol. people change so i dont have a problem with it.

I do think itI worth mentioning the new neck articulation on this wave of Black Series figures. They all now have ball peg necks or even double ball pegs depending on the figure. This allows a much more natural look to the head movement.
Yeah that was something I didn’t realize until I recorded the articulation part for he video which I did after I recorded the main video. I didn’t feel like re-recording the main vid. I’ll mention it in my Lando review, but it’s a good call out to bring up specifically.

Thanks for making the same point I have made over and over with my peeps. At least we HAVE Star Wars. If we only had the originals, I would be happy. But for better or worse, I'm glad to have prequels, Rogue One, AND the new Trilogy films. No Star Wars film is perfect, except the original cut of Empire Strikes Back.

I also totally agree with your generic thoughts on the Black Series hands. I think one of the hands should be neutral: a pair of clawed hands looks daft. Now two sets of hands, now you're talking!

Some of the Solo Figures are STILL peg warming at my local Walmart. I got the Lando figure for $4 because they where there for so long. I think I got Solo for $15 when they cut the price the first time.

@@MikeKaess The only ones I paid full price for are Chewie and the Range Trooper. I've never seen figures peg warm for has long as they did. It's really unfortunate. A lot of the figures from that line I never even saw in stores too. That could just be poor distribution in my area though.
I waited for the price to come down on this guy because I knew it would but I really enjoy it. Of course I had the benefit of knowing I liked the movie by then. My only complaint is his ankles are kinda off. Not sure if its just mine or not but the peg seems real thin and his feet are a little thinner than the lower boot and I just don't like to pose around his legs too much because of it.

They drop officially on the 13th... If you're into Transformers, the Studio Line is on the 20th. I know those dates, b/c I was at Target & they had them out already, so I went to buy them & they wouldn't scan. So the lady came over to the Self Check Out line. She said they are not supposed to release until those dates, so she's sorry "but I have to put them back". So I was bummed. Then my G/f found Young Solo at another Target & she was able to buy it today... So it's up to the individual stores if you can get them early. Me I'm just taking Friday off.
That’s always the worst when that happens. I snagged the Studio Line Grimlock from Amazon for $50. It’s actually a pretty decent figure.
Yeah... I'm pretty much focused on a sole MP line collection for my Transformers. But, the Studio Line has a few good figures to use as stand-ins until their MP counterparts release. For me, it would be that Grimlock and their Blackout... I think both of those can act as a stand-in along side Movie MP Prime, Bumblebee and Barricade.
You may have inspired me to pick this up. Pretty cheap now. I just wasn't all in like now when it came out. Fun review.
As a professed EU fanboy, I may call him Jacen haha. Like you, im cautiously optimistic about the movie but I will definitely need to see the movie frst before being able to view this as Han.
he's a pretty good stand in until if/when we ever get one. But I wouldn't hold my breath.
Kinda frustrating all these years later Hasbro still glues a holster glued to the leg. My new Jedi Survivor Cal has a glued holster drives me nuts. Great video.

I have this one and he's actually pretty cool. I like all the figures that came out in this way. And I'm cool with all the fairweather fans trash talking Star Wars. It let's me know who the real fans are and not the fake ones. Keep the reviews coming Mike we appreciate the time you take to make them.
I don't want to get into the real vs fake fan argument. If someone doesn't like TLJ or Solo, i won't hold that against them as a fan. As long as they don't hold it against me for liking them. That being said, I genuinely feel bad for people who didn't watch Solo in theaters. It was a fantastic ride.

Jay Black ...Harrison changed with age. Hes a grumpu grandpa now who hates his fans and his han solo character. You would figure that by now he would do conventions to meet the fans already. Mark Hamil sure loves his fans and takes his time out to talk with everyone...he embraced that he will always be Luke to everyone.
On the fence on this one. I have a feeling that this figure will be on deep discount by June. I will probably buy one eventually as it is a Star Wars fugue. Either way great review!

I'm almost certain this figure will be a peg-warmer. Like you said, with fans generally being unenthusiastic about the movie and perhaps the entire Star Wars brand at this point, along with the fact that it's not Ford playing Han Solo, I don't think a lot of people are going to want to buy it. In fact, I predict all or most of the Solo figures will peg-warm kind of like the Rogue One line did.
i honestly feel bad for the people who won't buy this just because it doesn't look like Harrison Ford. he's a fun figure.

i had a bunch of M.U.S.C.L.E. guys when I was a kid. But no, i don't collect them right now.
I asked because I recently discovered the S. H. Figuarts versions of the M.U.S.C.L.E. characters and they are really awesome. I also find myself with an extra one of the S.H. Figuarts Kinnikuman figures and thought I'd send it to you to review if that's something that would interest you at all. (You could also keep it, obviously.)

I was 13 years old when Star Wars "died", in 1985, and the next ten years of no new Star Wars movies/toys/TV shows were actually fine. In fact, I think my collection grew faster during those years because all of my friends were moving on and offloading their toys for cheap (or just straight up giving them away). Of course, the Star Wars RPG came out in 1987, which kept the universe alive for my brother and I until I graduated high school, in 1991. So, I've lived through "no Star Wars" and I've lived through "bad Star Wars" (the Prequels) and I think I actually preferred it when Star Wars was just this phenomenon that started in 1977 and ended in 1985. I'll still give the new Solo movie a chance when it comes out, but I'm not sure if I will go to see it in theaters yet.
I got into Star Wars around 19943/94, around the time of Star Wars lowest point. I had a friend who collected the vintage line. He was a little older than me. Our moms were teachers so we had to wait around after school for them to be done working. We bonded over Star Wars. The Zahn books came out around then. And the prequels and sequels were a far off myth that probably would never happen. The special editions aren’t even a thing yet.
So my Star Wars fandom was born during the dark times when the only way to get new Star Wars was to read mostly pretty mediocre books.
Nothing made me happier than when Star Wars got a new breath of life around 95 when Kenner/Hasbro started up the potf2 line and then in 97 when the Special Editions came out. Sure I was put off that they changed Han Solo ‘s character from being the only one who shoots to shooting as a reaction. It bothered me they added a beak to the Sarlac Pit. But it was Star Wars. I didn’t care.
Then when the prequels started, and i waiting in line after school all the way until midnight to get a good seat to see The Phantom menace and we got a mostly poorly acted movie filled with Trade Disputes and senate politics, I was still mostly ok with it and saw it in the theater at least 6 times because it was Star Wars.
So I’ve been there. My fandom survived. Star Wars will always be around.
I think it's cool that your love of Star Wars actually originated during the "Dark Years". If you don't mind my asking, what was it that actually sparked it for you? For me it was picking out an R2-D2 figure at the grocery store, in 1978, that started it all for me.
Between friends who owned the movie on VHS, and having it pretty ingrained into pop culture, I’ve always “liked” Star Wars. But getting them on VHS, the THX remaster Box set was what originally sparked it. Coupled with Christmas of 95 when I got Luke and Han from the new PotF 2 line. That’s what turned my like into obsession.
Harrison Ford has super thin legs in the new Star Wars. Like he’s got serious muscle / calcium deficiency. It’s almost uncomfortable to watch.
And I’m pretty sure he broke his hip falling down after his son stabbed him on the bridge. Just saying. Lots of old people break their hip.

Well it doesn't work that way imo. Headcanon to me is like writing the movie for the directors, saving them the effort of connecting the dots. As for Star Wars at this point i'll say i'd prefer no Star Wars. I've always loved it to death, I own hundreds of action figures. But after doing some research into the people behind Lucasfilm I became very disappointed. They are obsessed with gender, race, extreme left politics, 3rd wave feminism, etc and are determined to put this into the movies. This took me out of TLJ multiple times while watching, same happened to Rebels. It's a thing where once you know it you can't look away. I am therefore very excited to see Lucasfilm struggle their way through the Han Solo movie, a movie about one of the most masculine characters ever. My bet: they will emasculate him. This is based on how Poe, Finn, Kylo, Luke and Han have been treated so far in the new canon. This figure indeed represents the time of star wars right now, it's a time where there is a disconnect between fans and creators.
Marvoushh really just seems to be a disconnect between you and the creators. Does emasculation scare you that much? Totally fine if you want to give up on a franchise you love but your reason say a lot more about you than it does the franchise.
I think it’s natural to be a little gender obsessed. Star Wars has been famously white and mostly male. It’s genuinely the one big criticism of the Star Wars Brand that was something that people didn’t really think anout in the 70s and 80s but is an issue today.
What’s really so wrong with making your cast more diverse? Why not make Star Wars more accessible to more people? I feel like it’s a weird thing to get hung up about. As a cis gendered white male or what ever label I have, who race or gender the main character of a Star Wars movie is doesn’t affect me in the slightest. But if it makes some little Asian girl happy to see someone that looks like she be a hero in a story, then I say go for it. Either way, it’s Star Wars.
I suggest you dig into the behind the scenes stuff going on at lucasfilm. Then you will find the source of ugly politics that are being pushed into Star Wars. What are you trying to imply here by the way? That I feel threatened? I am angry at the fact that star wars is now a vehicle for extreme left politics. These also happen to be ideas I am firmly against, and any sane human being should be against; anti men, anti white, pro diversity, anti capitalism. These ideas are clearly visible in the movies since disney took over and it completely takes you out of the movie once you pay attention to it. Kathleen Kennedy is a feminist, but a 3rd wave feminist. The kind that still blame men and the "systemic systems of institutional sexism" when it comes to the pay gap for example. These things are not hard to find, you can read up on it anywhere on the internet or on youtube. When JJ Abrams goes out and says that he thought there were too many white people at some award show, and Kathleen Kennedy picks a racist like that to direct a star wars movie? Only confirms the point i'm making here.
@ Mike Kaess well maybe Star Wars was white because the target audience is white, because the target country was white? Because that was and is the case. It has always been a franchise for men and boys. Sure, girls love it too, but the central conflict was between a boy and his father and war. The problem is that they pretend that diversity is always good, which is a false statement. Diversity is now forced as in: they include characters like Rose (first asian american) and Holdo (strong female) just because they want it to be diverse. These kinds of characters feel forced, and are widely critiscsized by fans and haters alike. It also creates another problem. Because in making the film "diverse" they will start dicriminating people on basis of skin colour. If you want an asian in a movie, you will discriminate on basis of skin colour. Because you are at that point not looking for a person who is best suited for the role, but for a number to fit on your quota. If you are making a japanese war movie it is logical to pick asian actors based on the backstory. They are now creating characters just to fill a quota. This gender obsessed behaviour also creates characters like Rey, who is a mary sue. She is supposed to be this strong female character that needs no man (a-romantic) and can do everything without trials or tribulations. This creates a character that people can't identify with, since nobody goes through life like Rey. Her abilities also ruin the other characters, like Han suddenly not knowing the millenium falcon, Kylo ren losing to her even tough he had actual training and experience, Finn becoming an idiot once she is around, chewie becoming a part of the decor when rey hugs leia instead, etc. My point summarised: they pick agenda above story quality.
