I love how your flops aren't just talking trash on budget dolls that are more aimed at kids but actual critiques on collector/expensive dolls, its refreshing and way more interesting than 'I hated that molded on swimsuit doll' for like the 100th time

I feel that as well. I of course as an adult collector loved toys as a child and love getting playlije toys for children and look for things that cater more to their developmental interests and senses that they would enjoy aka what they would want to do WITH the toy, obviously for a collector item I become annoyed at them selling them in the aisle with regular children’s toys so a child can see these big cool boxes and become infatuated with a RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE TOY. That is on a different price range/ often can’t be afforded. These collector editions are clearly not designed with anything enjoyable for them, hell they didn’t even put anything enjoyable for us, the actual clientele in there 😂 I remember being a kid and seeing the Lady Gaga MH and my family was poor poor so obviously I wasn’t getting ANY MH none the less the lady Gaga one 😢, no one in my rural ass town could really afford it so it was on the shelf for so long it went on sale and most people STILL couldn’t afford it. They only sold out at Christmas and that was from FUCKING SHAQ COMING AND PAYING OFF EVERYONES WALMART LAYAWAY no cap 😂. Anyways yeah a special edition that isn’t actually nice/special, over priced, comes in a cumbersome/ugly (or both) package is super lame. 😒
1000% agree on these dumb lil anchors in monster high doll heads! I can barely see to cut them and they are basically flush against the back of the box you can't cut the doll out that way! I got so mad when i was cutting out a doll and hear a horrifying hair snip. Which thankfully wasn't noticeable but mattel needs a better way to secure the dolls to the box without cause collectors panic
A pair of needle-nose pliers (or just small jewelry pliers) gets rid of them very easily, without any damage (in my experience) to the doll. That being said, I fully agree that they’re dumb and unnecessary. Like… how are people supposed to get rid of them? Jewelry pliers seem like the only good option, and not everyone just has those lying around the house.
Yup, I accidentally cut one of my Fearidescent Drac's black streaks cutting that specific anchor. She was the first doll I'd unboxed in many years and had assumed that companies would've gotten rid of it by now. You have to be so careful and it's impossible to cut it flush with the back of the head

With the Integrity dolls, they could have made them scary. They could have also explored the themes of the sins more. Lust can be a lust for power, for political gain.
Sloth wasn't just considered laziness back when the Deadly Sins were created; it was a representation of depression and mental illness, quite literally a failure of the mind and spirit.
Greed isn't just about money or things, but looking down on others for not having as much as they do.
Seriously, the 7 Deadly Sins is such a cool concept that people reduce to its most basic parts when there's so much that you can do with them. Integrity is so creative when they put their minds to something! They seriously dropped the ball, here.
I have a fuzzy image of a Gluttony themed doll that's a full on maximalist. An outfit featuring different cuts, patterns, textures, multiple layers (maybe cobbled together from the other dolls' outfits 🤔) - like they couldn't decide which outfit they wanted to wear so they stitched all of them together
The Wrath one is cool but too pricey. I'll settle for Luna in the RH twin pack she's much cheaper. The vain one is so disappointing you can just buy Looks Simone and throw in that silver Naturalistas dress, and you have a cheaper option. Or just get Alisha Sterling from RH.

The 7 Sins dolls were such a missed opportunity!! Especially vanity, it feels so easy? I would've loved an Elizabethan collar made of mirrors so no matter where she looks, she can see herself or something fun and absurd!!! Gluttony could've focused on over consumption in consumerism but that may have been a little ironic coming from a doll collection that requires a membership lol.
To add to the Vanity, imagine some sort of fabric pattern that incorporates the dolls imagine. Like a Sistine chapel sort of vibe of art but it's the doll itself for every figure on it.
Disney ILY won me over by having boy doll OPTIONS, not just a one off boy. As well as fashion packs that can be worn by said boy dolls. I got my sister the stitch doll, and I got the Aladdin boy. Biggest flop for me was series 5 of Rainbow High, and the latest series of LOL Tweens. Also big shoutout to Venus McFlytrap for stealing the show this year!
I like how Enchantimals have literally outlasted the original run of G1 Monster High at this point.

Head anchors only exist for young people to be terrified as their fathers take a hunting knife to their dolls head (my dad never cut a single hair from my dolls and the anchor was always cut flush but good grief did it terrify me every time)

Trying to cut those little plastic anchors is the most stressful part of an unboxing. I finally got my hands on Shadow High's Oliver Ocean the other day and trying to snip the thing close to the head without cutting the hair was terrifying! Maybe I should invest in some nail scissors or something just for that.

I think the whole kylie Jenner bratz thingy was a mistake. They should’ve choose someone who was just a better person. Kylie Jenner and her whole family aren’t good people and I can think of a lot better representatives for that collaboration
i also think shes just not really representative of the brand. her fashion is TOO modern and while i understand that at the time bratz were trendy by modern standards, we all know they're purposefully tapping into (tiktokified) y2k. she just isnt a good representative for the concept outside of, idk, the lips?
i cant think of someone popular who would be better but she just felt out of left field. if you told me paris partnered with bratz and not rainbow high i would have thought that was plausible.
No 1 reason I didn’t get any of those Bratz was that Kylie Jenner is a spoiled bitch that just happened to have the money to start a make up brand. They could’ve asked Rihanna to be the new Bratz. Well… I guess it fits with the “brat” word but seriously!! Kylie!!? 😅

The 50 dollhair Barbie movie dolls were the equivalent of 110 American dollhairs here. And the cheaper ones 60. I ended up getting none of them unfortunately and the prices are still not getting lower so… it doesn’t look like I’ll get any.
Real! I'm in Switzerland and the only real way I can get them is at supersized grocery stores, where they're all way overpriced too. It's such a shame!
The Pixlings are amazing despite all their flaws. They nailed the fantasy aspects. And the hair is so amazing!

Oof, I feel like Integrity Toys was going to have a very hard time interpreting Gluttony with any kind of nuance or interesting concepts. They probably could only think of over eating, but couldn't FATHOM making that 'fashion'
Living Dead Dolls did a seven deadly sins set years ago. A mashup of the concept - fashion horror or something - could've been something spectacular.
The thing with me is that they just didn't brainstorm on any of the themes. Lust isn't just sex. Sloth isn't just laziness. Greed isn't just a shopping addiction.
They could have totally gone scarier and a lot deeper into the concepts, but they just... didn't. It's boring and uninspired.
i think gluttony and greed would've benefitted from being more visually busy- like having dresses that look like they're made from a bunch of different objects that represent different aspects of the sin.
I am so in love with the LOL OMG Wildflower doll. She is everything. And she was only £16 online which for the quality of her is super cheap!
Her details, clothes silhouette, colour scheme, hairstyle and hair colour and butterfly theme is gorgeous!! I also love how they put the accesories that you unbox in boxes that resemble glasses cases or shoe boxes
The Magic Mixlings in general were what captured my wife's heart toy-wise this year, and it's been ages since anything's appealed to her. She just got her first Pixling, and it's absolutely adorable. I can't be mad that they made number 1. Though I was wondering what could be better than Vampire Heart Draculaura. She and the Stitched-in-Style Frankie are my top tier dolls this year. And I hope Mr. Mattel listens about the head anchors. They are a pain no matter where they are.
One of my favorite release from 2023 was the 35th anniversary Teresa doll from Barbie because she's my favorite barbie character. I just think she's so pretty and I love that her dress pays homage to her original debut outfit from the 80s
Idea on the Pixlings. Since the bottles are reusable, they can just sell new refill dolls and magic powders at like $9
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Rainbow High Runway dolls. Those were a pretty hot topic in 2023. Especially Poppy Rowan.
My fav doll for the year was definitely Abbey from Monster High. She’s literally so gorgeous and is on the same level as her original doll.
so the Style Bae gals are actually a great creativity-inducing toy, especially for a kid. The abundance of inspired looks that can be made hella easy and are low-stakes fashions so the kid isn’t worried about loosing or cutting a real one , it’s a fun toy and we actually sometimes play with em together coz the wardrobes feel like a huge wish fulfillment paradise
I remember when I was young I got this magnetic image of a girl and various magnetic fashions to put on her. If Style Bae is similar to that, I may have to pick one up.
head anchors are my MORTAL ENEMY!!! Part of the reason I haven't taken my Vampire Heart Draculaura out of her box is because I don't want to mess up her hair; I just KNOW those plastic abominations are waiting to ruin me.
I absolutely want to see more of the Pixlings. They're so cute but you're 100% right about the packaging. I'm using my bottles to store bits and bobs from other dolls atm.
i didn't know mattel did this and when i opened my first ever g3 doll (abbey) i was sooo stressed while cutting the anchors off. In the end i couldn't get rid of them completely so i just pushed them into her head lol
A technique that seems to work for me is to use fingernail clippers. First clip just to remove the doll, then you can come in closer to get more of the plastic. You can use tweezers to pull the plastic out all the way, then clip it off as close to the head/hair as possible. The little bit left will likely not be visible in the hair and/or you can push it in so it isn't. Still a pain, but at least I haven't damaged anything.
Try using some nail clippers to get them out!
YES!!! i agree i hate the head anchors! really difficult to get out without damaging the hair and then great now she has pointy plastic stuck in her head! unless you take her head off to remove them completely! its never like one anchor either :( NONE please!
head anchors stress me out so much. i once accidentally cut a bit of G3 toralei's hair off trying to get them out (thankfully it's not too noticeable unless you look close, but still)
Head anchers should be discontinued in all dolls.
I picked up a Rainbow High Rainbow Vosion Costume Ball Spuder Queen Robin this year (because she is gorgeous and I fell in love (actually have 2 so i can keep one in box)).
And unboxing her, the little head anchers stressed me out! Her hair is so tight that it would have been real obvious if I had snipped any of it.

Honestly hearing you go off on the integrity dolls was just 👌 seriously tear them to shreds, i had so many of the same thoughts as a fellow virgo, doll collector and former costume design student. For such an elevated brand, the way they decided to execute the concepts was just... not elevated.
I didnt realize how many opinions i had on the integrity toys 7 deadly sins collection until you brought it up.
Im just so disappointed 7 deadly sins is such a good theme especially for a collector/adult focused line! And they went so basic!
Great video! I agree about the Pixlings. They aren't a scale I like, I dislike molded on clothes, but these dolls are Amazing. They really understood the assignment. Sculpted on clothes that give More detail than could be reasonable made with fabric, that enhance the theme of the dolls. The hair is silky soft with great color blends. Decent articulation for the size. The fantasy elements. I only have 2, as I am struggling to find a place for them in my collection. I don't want to put them on a shelf and forget them. Deerla is on display with Isis Dawndancer and her horned coterie. Marina is with Lagoona and smaller merfolk on my mermaid wall. I want Amber, after she drops in price. I may have to create a small vignette just for her - not sure what dolls will display well with her yet

my biggest new years resolution is to work on my first OOAK doll :3 gonna turn an Operetta into a Masque of the Red Death themed early victorian style doll, very excited to see how this goes
Honestly if the Off White dolls didn't cost so much the only doll I'd buy is Harmonie (The green one). Her base doll is really cute and her dress gives off clown energy (I can't even explain why. It just does.) and I absolutely fuck with that.
the magic mixling pixling being a smaller size is a plus for me, I love a small doll
I really got into collecting zombaes forever for the same reason, ntm the fact that series one has been on major clearance
It also helps that Vampire Heart Draculaura is one of rhe few recent MH Collector releases that *ISN'T* in a mermaid dress

Yes these magic mixies pixling dolls are amazing! 🤩 I was not into human dolls AT ALL (I'm a my little pony g1 collector) but these got me to buy a human(ish) doll! They opened a gateway because after I got the Pixling I got into Barbie as well.

My number 1 this year is LOL OMG 8th line! Esp Wildflower! I had that kind of feeling you mentioned in the video: so excited to see her at the store the first time and totally in awe when unboxing her with every tiny detail!
I love OMG sm! To me they succeed in making fun and exciting designs for compare to RH. It's sad that the future for OMG is unclear, but if it does end I hope doll collectors can give them the flowers they deserve for kick-starting the doll resurgence we're having.
Alwayz Bratz has me genuinely excited. Man I feel like I'm a kid again getting excited to see Bratz in the toy shelves especially for my girl Yasmin.
The Barbie Movie line disappoints me greatly because when they were released the price was way too high and already did I get a bad impression. With Extra being canned and the movie dolls not impressing me anymore, I feel sadden that the Barbie aisle is just so boring rn. Maybe that might change but I hope Mattel can get something actually good with Barbie.
Overall it was very eventful year for dolls so let's see how 2024 will go.

20:59 that Draculara doll is so beautiful and I’m so jealous I wasn’t into monster high again when she came out! I would’ve totally bought her, but I don’t want to potentially pay for scalper prices on resell websites 😢. Draculara always has the best designed dolls in my opinion, even Gen 3 I just want to buy all of her dolls because their so pretty ( may or may not get a 3rd Draculara doll soon lol )

I agree with your whole list, I really liked the barbie movie dolls but the refusal to restock is bizzare and I am not paying scalper prices when tbh they were already kinda too much to begin with.

I love the pixlings too!! I was watching the video while doing their hair actually 😂 Also the Disney ILY dolls are so fun and absolutely love them. My personal faves from this year was Kavi Sharma, the American Girl of the Year for 2023, The Girls Nite Out reproductions (which came out last year but I got them this year and am obsessed lol), the pixlings (obviously) and the Nightmare before Christmas dolls- I absolutely love them, especially Sally 💗 Here’s hoping 2024 gives us some new and exciting dolls (please?)

That aside tho i am upset they instantly relased vampire heart draculaura right as clawdeen came out-reminds me of when AG relased the historical twins right as claudia came out , can mattel stop relasing white dolls right as a Black doll comes out so people will buy the white one instead?? Agreed, they're beautiful dolls! I got myself the cinderella one in spring last year and she's stunning. I would love to get some of the outfit sets for her, I just couldn't decide! I love the concept behind disney inspired clothing for fashion dolls, and they're really nicely articulated and designed too.
i hate that mga consistently makes cloe and yasmin dolls better than sasha and jade (at least in my unfortunate opinion). like sasha and jade are my two favs but release after release i feel like much more effort and care is put into yasmin and cloe’s look. :(
Fun fact, I kept reading the Kylie Brand as Kylie Minogue instead of Kylie, Jenner don’t ask me why I just kept really hoping it was Kylie Minogue and then once I finally got it through my head, but it wasn’t I was super disappointed. 14:42
I am one of those people who can't get past the OMG faces, but I do agree that this particular series is really, really nice. I *wish* I liked their faces better honestly. I can tell that they are thoughtfully designed and high quality.
I also don't have any of the magic Mixies Pixlings, largely because of the packaging. they are so cute, but I can't quite get past what I would do with those bottles. I'm kind of hoping to find them second hand in a year or 2.
My top fav is the Sunny and Luna two pack. The moment I found out that the looks from the instagram video would become a two pack I was in instant need mode. My most must have out of every doll ever (well minus a hopefully repro of the Bratz Genie Magic dolls). Got them as a late Christmas gift from my parents and they were almost half off via Walmart’s site so yay, saving money.
I adored the two pack of Sunny and Luna. Sunny was my absolute favourite character in RH and I absolutely loved their new outfits together. The little bear bag! The metal corset! The new hairstyles and makeup! So, so pretty!
Luna is a really underrated doll just change up her top.
I cannot possibly explain the chokehold these pixlings have on me. I’m so incredibly obsessed and I’ve genuinely been so overjoyed every single time I’ve gotten them. They’re absolutely my top pick for 2023 also.
The unboxing process is annoying though and I would happily do without all the fluff.
I would say MH Vampire Heart Draculaura is my favorite doll of the year, then the Sh series 2; well most of them. The Magic Mixlings are also in my top fav dolls for last year. I don't think you should change the way you present your thoughts and really enjoy them. You are honest and really say things most people wouldn't; I appreciate that in you, and I also like your personality :)
While I personally disagree with Hawloday Clawdeen, I think she’s very pretty and I honestly got her for under 30$ on Amazon which is a steal, the Valentine’s Day Duce and Cleo I definitely agree with. They are just not it

Honestly I loved the new monster high reboot line, those might not be new to 2023 but this was my first year of doll collecting and they were my favorite
I got Perfect Day and the jumpsuit doll but that jump in price definitely put me off of the other dolls from the Barbie movie. The fact that they held off on a Ryan Gosling sculpt the way they did was pretty annoying. I hadn’t really looked at the Pixlings before but now preparing to go down that rabbit hole. 😂 I always appreciate your attitude and outlook, looking forward to your content in the new year!

OH MY GOD. Thank you for the comment on the plastic anchors!!! They have been driving me absolutely BONKERS while I'm unboxing the G3 Monster High dolls and I've almost cut my poor dolls' hair multiple times because of it. It's nervewracking!

Soooo agree about the plastic pegs in the back of mattel dolls' heads. I was unboxing my Venus the other day and the SURGICAL PRECISION I had to use to remove those stupid plastic bits was ridiculous. What is even the reason for it??? It's not like their heads easily flop around or something.

I really love the pixlings too! And they are more affordable than monster high and rainbow high (and more available where I live). I only have two so far, and I weep over the fact that Flitta isn't in my country, but I am definitely getting more. The bottles get to live on as battletowers in my husbands warhammer army ;)
for head anchors, i've found that using nail clippers to trim them is most effective and poses least threat to the hair, so i recommend using those. they're so awful though, like pleeease girl

I am so happy to see someone felt the same way about the Cleo and Duece pack. I had been mentally set to get all of the MH that are the original mold but this one broke that plan. I think her base doll is fine. Her shoes and waist piece are really cool but when you compare that dress to her G3 outfits. Ouch. Also, DOTD Duece had a better outfit. They both look over the top but not in a good way. Cleo is literal ROYALTY! I cant even. Also, I was pleasantly surprised at your number one pick. I dont own any of the Mixlings but they are darling. One thing I really adore is the faces. They look like they studied what customizers do for their paintings and emulated that and they look very sweet because of it. Also your super sweet and polite sarcasm is perfection.
Vampire Heart Draculaura was definitely my favorite this year! I just got her a few days ago and I just about cried with joy, she's so pretty and elegant and I'm so obsessed with her gown, everything about her is so perfect
Dude the holiday Barbie off the bat 😂 it’s so sad to me 🥲 I remember seeing them in the closets of collectors in awe like they wear the GOAT, TBE like literal unobtainable beauty on earth lol for a little backwoods Nellie creature like me. I loved me that Angeline Christmas Barbie. I was really hoping this year with the rise of Barbie-core and etc they would lean into it.
I really liked the Off White collaboration, mostly because it reminded me a bit of some hand sewn clothes I made for my own dolls a while back. Definitely unique and not what one's first thought might be for Monster High fashion, but I liked them for that. Hope to be able to get one of those in the future! 😚
I just looked up Style Bae and I really want them now. Especially Harper. I wish MH gave Clawdeen outfits like her. Too bad they aren't actual clothes I could use on other dolls

I am not a fashion doll collector at all, but The One doll that I had to buy was the upcoming Barbie movie Kenought-Ken doll! It propably doesn't count as 2023 release as I am still on the waiting list, but gosh isn't he dangerously bringing me close to watching other new releases with wrong kind of intentions!

Oh I am so with you about PIXLINGS! I think they are the sweetest thing ever. I keep them in their bottles or stand them on the llids. I may actually further adorn the lids with gold cord and real crystals.

OH MY GOSH i am so so happy to see that your favorite was also my favorite- THOSE PIXLINGS WERE SO DANG CUTE they were so well executed and as someone who reeeeally loves wrist articulation, and REALLY hates a molded on top- THIS was so beautiful and perfect. The fact that the two things i dislike most about dolls were ON these dolls and i still label them as my #1 favorite of the year, incredible. stunning. please, i need more of this! (also...head anchors.... Mattel, everyone who makes dolls, please, we hate them. Please find another way to secure the head in packaging.)
