    My band opened up for Kings X in 1999. I was and still am a fan. I just so happened to see Jerry come out of their tour bus, so I quickly rushed over to say hi and give him a copy of our CD to check out. What a cool dude. I was just a 20yo kid at the time, and he was just so nice and took the time to chat with me. I’ll never forget that. I’ve never seen a better drummer live.

    Got to chat with Jerry a couple of times over the years. Real nice down to earth guy. I switched from zildjian cymbals to paiste based on Jerry's sound and advice. It was an expensive undertaking but well worth it. Nothing beats the warm sound and consistancy of paiste signature and 2002 series cymbals. Love Kings x and Jerry's drumming.

    • @cygnusx-7440
      @cygnusx-7440 4 года назад +1

      Hey ejamsc...very interesting comment. I have a couple grand invested in Zildjian cymbals, but I've recently thought about their Turkish origin and history. Never mattered to me before but it's on my mind lately. Is there a 'moral' factor involved? Or is it just about the sound. Appreciate any comments.

    • @ejamsc
      @ejamsc 4 года назад

      @@cygnusx-7440 Hey! Thanks friend. For me,it was all about consistancy of sound and practicality. Nothing more than that. I like the fact that one Paiste 2002 med. 16" crash,for example,sounds just like another paiste 2002 med. 16" crash. No guesswork or searching endlessly for a certain sound. Although it's pretty cool that Zildjian cymbals are totally unique from one another,it's also a curse. I've tried to replace a couple beloved zildjians with ones with similar characteristics but was never fully happy. No moral implications although its an interesting take. It does spark some curiosity in me. I know very little about Zildjian history.

Great drummer and still as down to earth as can be even after so many great albums and worldwide recognition. Already have my ticket to see them in Austin in a few weeks. Long live Jerry and long live King’s X.

    One of the greatest rock drummers of all time. A human metronome, a man who can keep time to the nanosecond. The smallest of kits, the biggest of sounds. An astonishing vocalist, a rare human being and a brother-in-arms-of-love to his bandmates. Gutted that you had to cancel the UK tour last year, Jerry but fuck that. Your health comes first. If you make it to these shores again, there's a lot of love waiting for you. And I know I speak for every Kings X fan in saying that.

    I saw Kings X in Glasgow promoting the Tape Head album in 1999 and it was one of my favourite gigs of all time . A power trio with harmonies and Doug was amazing with his vocals and eight string bass . I had one of their albums Dogman and had no real idea what they looked like and now realise that they had squeezed past my friends and I on the way into the venue which was tiny. Looking forward to seeing them in Glasgow in September!

  • @ddaughtryweiss
    @ddaughtryweiss 3 года назад +1

    My first memory of King's X is a benefit they played at St. John's Episcopal Houston ca. 1988(!) and loving Jerry's varied and elaborate rhythms--I came to dig Doug and Ty through subsequent listenings of Out of the Silent Planet and later albums. Incidently I was a Petra listener--I think I lost some hearing at one of their concerts--but while Petra fell by the wayside, King's X has stayed with me from middle school to today--these guys have been fellow sojourners by keeping it real, never having a dogmatic message (Petra had some good messages mind you), and instead celebrating and commuicating Love Supreme and humanity through music.
    I lost track of King's X as I went deep into classical in late 90s, and it has been great fun catching up on everything and recent side projects. The Kings's X station is my most played Pandora channel (Deep cuts) because I can hear all of the different bands and work they've dipped into over the last decade.
    Thanks Jerry! And thanks to whatever power brought and has kept these guys together!

    I first met Jerry when he was only 14 through his older brother Herb {who is an amazing guitarist}. We'd sit up in his room, partake in some "tea", and listen to some Beatles, Moody Blues, Wishbone Ash or Trapeze records. Then we'd head down to the family room where Jerry & Herb would jam together, playing 20 minute versions of "Wipe-out" and other tunes. he was good then and even better now!

    Petra! Wow, they played my highschool. I guess he wasn't in it tho. It probably wasn't the same one anyway.
    What's weird is his saying that the christian thing wasn't his thing. I do feel a very 'love each other, connection with the music they make. I don't hear the follow Jesus or a god in the music\lyrics. I do hear and feel a deep love others in the music. I feel it even when they aren't singing. I'm not concerned if they are christian or not or believe in a religion\deity because the music is great.
    Rock

    In the first five albums, jerry was exactly what I look for in a drummer; deep pocket and lots of space. Later on, he started to sound kind of garage-like. Some of his fills on certain songs bugs me a lot. I love the guy though but economy is key in this band

    I can appreciate the early 80s days of Christian Rock-Petra, Resurrection Band-because at least teenage up-and-coming players could see pro-musicians not bombed out of their skulls on drugs and parents were okay with church-based Christian Rock shows. Subsequently, however, as the Christian community turns its back on King's X's dUg for being a gay man, you ultimately have to let religion bow out gracefully. You can certainly appreciate Jesus as "Jewish Buddha"-I'll treat others the way I want to be treated-or that C.S. Lewis influenced King's X's music, but ultimately, dogmatic belief just isn't helping anything.
