      I was at a Mets game in early 1987.. It was early in the season.. guy on the Braves (my memory is telling me it was Ken Griffey Sr. but I'm probably wrong) hits an easy fly ball to Kevin McReynolds in Left Field.. except the ball hits and kills a seagull.. Braves score 2 runs on the play and go on to score another 2 in the inning.
      Also in the 1980's was the Dave Winfield incident.. People in Toronto wanted Winfield arrested for killing a bird with a throw while warming up before a game.
      Randy Johnson wasn't the only MLB player to kill a bird.. and I think the one who killed a bird with a fly ball was more impressive!

    The line from home plate to 1st and home to 3rd are extended to the outfield wall, those are called the foul lines, the ball must stay "fair" and carry the wall on the fly to be a home run, if it bounces over the wall it's a double.

  • @daricetaylor737
    @daricetaylor737 2 года назад +1

    There are white lines on either side of the baseball field, you must hit the baseball and keep it within those two lines in order for the ball to remain in field. Yes, if the batter hits a fly ball, it remains within the two lines, but travels beyond the back barrier, it is a home run. Yet if they hit a fly ball and it travels beyond either side boundary, it is considered a foul ball and counts for nothing but a strike against the batter. In the case of the player catching the foul ball in the stands was more of a "look what I can do" moment and it made for great game play.

  • @wildbronco038
    @wildbronco038 2 года назад +1

    A home run is only if it goes out at the far back. If it goes to the side, it’s a foul, which counts as a strike (unless it would be strike 3). Fielders can catch it anywhere for an out, even if it looks like it’s going out for either a HR or a foul.

    For the QB, or whomever is throwing a forward pass to be beyond the line of scrimmage his entire body & the ball must be beyond the line of scrimmage. Penalty is 5 yards & loss of down. Also if a QB lines up under center to take the snap, rather than in the shotgun, he cannot catch a forward pass, unless the pass is deflected by another eligible player prior to him touching it. This rule also applies to offensive linemen. To be an eligible receiver in football, if you are on offense, you must either be lined up at End, or in the backfield, except under center. All defensive players are eligible to intercept the ball.

  • @TheCosmicGenius

    No, a homerun only happens when the ball leaves the field at the far end of the stadium. The baseball field is set up like a diamond, & there's a fence at the far end - that's where the ball has to go for a homer. If a ball is hit off to the side of the field, it's in foul territory, & if it's caught there it's an out (if it isn't caught while in foul territory, it counts as a strike, unless there are already 2 strikes, then it's just a foul ball, which means it counts as nothing).

    On the first hockey one he wasn't really the favorite, its that you almost never see a one punch knockout in hockey like that, or a knockout at all, you almost never even see either guy pass out like that or in a team brawl it doesn't happen either really at all, even when blood starts pouring you almost never see a guy passout from a fight. Its rare in both that its a one punch knockout and that he got KO'ed at all. Normally they don't get to the point where that happens. Now there are times a guy passes out from a hit during play which isn't considered a fight but rather a sports related play, be it a dirty one or not on the perpetrators part. But even thats rare, but there was a case of that happening in last years playoffs where a player got knocked out by a guy running into his head while he was knocked over on the ice.

    You have to stay on the field to catch the baseball. Otherwise, if the ball leaves the field in the air in fair territory, it’s a home run. If the ball leaves the field in foul territory, it’s a foul ball. If a player catches the ball in foul territory, it’s an out, but he has to stay on the field. The players are allowed to jump and catch it but have to stay in field area. Please don’t get me started on a ground-rule double 😉

    If a fly ball is hit to the Right of the First Base Line OR to the Left of the Third Base Line, it is considered a Foul Ball and counts as a Strike to the batter. Unless it would be the Third Strike in which case it is just a Foul Ball. Any Fly Ball caught before it hits the Ground is an Out. This would include a Fielder Reaching Over a Fence, or in the case as shown in this video, standing ON the Fence to catch the ball. Then he 'fell' into the fans sitting area. But it would still be judged as a Foul Out.

I'm quite surprised that they didn't include any hockey, as there have been some spectacular plays in the NHL. In November of 1959, Jacques Plante took a hard shot to the face. When he returned to the ice, he became the first player in NHL history to wear a protective face mask. Imagine that catcher that had the ball get stuck in his mask, without the mask on. Not a pretty picture. Kabir, I know that there are videos of the best of the NHL, that would be great fun to see you react to. Plus, I always enjoy watching great moments in hockey 🏒!

    10:15 if the ball leaves the field of play over the outfield fence, its a homerun. If it leaves the field of play anywhere else, its considered a foul ball. The Cubbies player physically caught the ball, but because he was also out of the field of play when he caught it, it didn't actually count as a catch. If you're standing in the field of play, you're allowed to lean and reach over into the stands to catch a foul ball for an our, but you can't physically leave the field of play.

    I don't know much about the rules of baseball, it's not a sport I watch a ton of but regardless of whether that catch counted or not, it's probably good that the player was able to make a catch like that considering that I didn't see any of the spectators with gloves in that area themselves prepared to catch a foul ball and many people have been injured by foul balls that close to the field. Just a few years ago, I'm not exactly sure how many, a little girl was very severely injured by a ball that she took a direct hit to the head from, requiring multiple surgeries as far as I understand, and could have easily been killed, it was a very serious situation you may have even heard about if you were following anything about baseball during that time. To my knowledge things like that have happened several times but that was by far the most serious that I'm aware of at least, which isn't saying much since I don't follow baseball closely but it was very scary at the time.

      It's not because he went into the stands. You can dive into the stands to get a foul ball. Jeter famously did this. The reason it was a no catch was because he threw the ball from the stands. What Rizzo needed to do was get up out of the stands then throw the ball for it to be a catch. Same thing is supposed to happen when a player robs a homerun and goes over. If they throw the ball back from behind the fence then it is a homerun. If they jump back over then it is an out. Just another odd intricacy of baseball.

    10:14 Only if it's a fair ball (in the 90-degree arc defined by the home-to-first and home-to-third lines). Outside of that is foul, and dead unless caught. I believe the call on this play was that Rizzo was outside the field of play when he made the catch (I think the rule is you can't be touching the ground out of play and have to have at least one foot over the in-play area), so it's just a foul ball.

    10:20 that was a foul ball he's casing after. Clearing the back wall is a home run. Not on the sides of the field. And you can absolutely catch foul balls for outs however most players let them become souvenirs for fans

    10:15 Since this is in foul territory it is counted as a 'no catch'. I'm not sure the exact ruling. Maybe a player leans at waist across the rail & reaches in it would be a catch? But he can't stand on the railing I'm pretty sure. And going that far into the crowd would be silly. Not quite sure what he is thinking.

      @@tomahawkjam2823 he can reach into the stands, over a wall, etc, but not step into an out of play area before the catch. That's why the umpire ruled no catch in the video. If he caught it and then fell into the stands, it's an out, dead ball, and any runners advance one base. If I remember right, I think the umps got together after the play and actually ruled it a catch before going out of play.

      @@tomahawkjam2823 I can only refer you to MLB rule Rule 5.09(a)(1) which basically says the player catching must start reaching for the ball with his feet on the playing field. Area listed they may not start to lean or jump is the dugouts & stands. When I went back to look the Announcers said it was ruled a 'no catch'.

    As a former Jimmy Harden supporter, that dunk not being counted was one of the most infuriating things I've ever witnessed in basketball. Hell, even seeing someone else get the basket called off after that would also infuriate me. It went through!!!!! I'm pretty sure we (the Rockets) ended up losing that game in OT by like 3 points or something....
