I can't even believe there were such immense singers on stage. Pippo's rendition is absolutely amazing. As always with a deep understanding of the text and intention. This aria is anything but monotonous as we have heard for the past two decades with other singers.

La voce di Di Stefano , in quest' edizione live, è di una bellezza toccante .La morbidezza del timbro, la perfetta pronuncia del testo, fanno di questo l'unico Rodolfo credibile.. Di Stefano stratosferico con la stupenda Bidù Savayo!
La brava bidu sayao??? Quando di stafano canto ' con lei Al met era la migliore soprano lírico Al mondo, rimanendo per altro uno dei punti piu alti del Vero bel canto del 900, oltre che geniale interprete di música da camera, da Debussy a villa lobos, e probabilmente la migliore Manon, Gilda, Amina, Marguerite e giulietta di sempre, oltre che una delle maggiori Violette e Mimi della storia. Del resto I duetti con bijorling o schipa sono assai superiori, con tutto il rispetto per pippo.
È pur considerata la migliore interpetre di Adina della storia della lirica.

It sounds like you have no problem with the fact that at the end of O Soave Fanciulla, Di Stefano does not sing the end in harmony the way Puccini wrote it, but sang it the other way. It fascinates me how many opera lovers prefer the tenor sing the harmony. I have no problem with any tenor who chooses to sing the ending in harmony. I also have no problem with tenors who choose to sing it the other way, which I prefer. What drives me crazy is people who suggest it is all about ego and tenors who choose to sing the high C at the end are arrogant.
My bad. I wrote in present and past tense in the same sentence. Oops.
The twenty-nine-year-old Di Stefano and the forty-eight-year-old Sayao sing gloriously.

Di Stefano abbacinante, eccezionale; per chi lo ascolta qui sembra un altro tenore da quello che ahimè diventerà solo pochi anni più tardi!
Meglio 6 mesi da leone. Comunque ho ascoltato tante volte Di Stefano negli ultimi anni ed era straordinario sempre Aveva ragione alla fine sempre lui. Il pubblico in ginocchio sempre. Con gli altri non succedeva, banco con Pavarotti.

The Standard Hour Radio program was a long running radio program in the first half of the 20th century. It ran on Sunday nights from what I understand. The program was sponsored by the Standard Oil Company of California. This was October 1, 1950 and it was the debut on the Standard Hour of Giuseppe Di Stefano. He was asked to return two more times before the month was over.

@@matejknezevic6989 this is an issue of debate. Di Stefano is not only my favorite tenor but my favorite singer in any genre of music. As great a career as he had some suggested he never lived up to his full potential. Not sure if I feel that way.
