In this explore we stumble upon a MASSIVE Manor house that was turned into a Residential care home for the elderly.
Upon exploring inside, we can see why this place was closed.
Dangerous stairs, small rooms, damp and mould and generally not fit for care in the 21st century!
Hopefully the property itself will be rescued as it really does have character.
We hope you enjoy the tour!

Apparently this place has been sold a couple of years back. Unfortunately the council has refused 2 plans for planning permission to demolish and build a bigger care home. Apparently plans don't fit with the green area of the town. In the meantime it becomes more and more delapadated.

My guess is that the house was probably designed as a care rehabilitation home for wounded officers after the Great War in or around 1918 . Edwardian style Mock Tudor with calcium silicate brickwork . Buildings of this type popped up in quiet areas of Surrey and West Kent .The approach to the building shows a utility block by the front entrance which is original and would never have been constructed if this was a domestic dwelling . It lacks a grand staircase too , which would be typical of a domestic property. Probably extended with outbuildings during WW2 and then maximised for capacity sometime after that .
An example of this can be found in the old film " Reach for the Sky " with Kenneth More playing Douglas Bader .
To be honest , I used to find surveying disused care homes , especially child care homes just a little too uncomfortable. Nice job lads .

Really interesting to see inside. In 2017 the care home was found to be inadequate in many ways...And that's why it closed. It made quite a sad reading when thinking about the people who had to stay there.
Medical dates: 1914 - 1919 Was a convalescent home for war wounded at first and about 167 sick and wounded servicemen were treated there in 1916. It then got extended. And was a hospital till 1919. I suppose then it became an old people's home.
Thanks for a very interesting historical explore - especially as the building may be demolished

I've asked that question many many times. I think that maybe the owner may have either died in an accident, got sick and died, family plans fell through, moved to a nicer location, an emergency that kept them away..... So many possibilities, I stopped asking myself because I know we'll never get an answer.

I absolutely love watching you dudes!! The places you come across are unlike any others. They are either quite magical, stunning, questionable, or just plain old eye openers. I really enjoy watching you guys. There have been a few times you move through the rooms of your explorers a little to fast which prevents us viewers from enjoying every aspect these abandoned jewels have patiently awaited, any visitor throughout all the years of abandonment. Slowing down allows us viewers to revel in the nostalgia awaiting for any recognizable being of its questionable past to return back home. This is definitely a home longtime forgotten by its former residents. Memories that once were, which slowly faded away along with their former selves! :(😢

This was a 34 room home for people with learning disabilities, rather than a care home for the elderly, so all ages catered for I presume.
According to Zoopla it was last sold in 2018 for 1.9 million. It is currently under offer again but the price is not being disclosed. I think previous buyers who wanted the place were refused planning permission to do what they wanted to it, so it is getting further and further dilapidated.
Its current estimate of value is between 1.16 and 1.75 million, which for the area it is in is not a huge amount, but whoever buys it will need to spend big on it.

Looks like a paying elderly care home. Some patients had rooms no bathroom we’re probably bedridden. The ones with bathrooms were for patients that could get up and use the facilities. The small bungalows outback might of been for assisted living. They had got old but could still live most their time on their own. Could cook, use bathroom facilities without help, but needed someone to come in and clean, help with laundry. They just wasn’t ready for a complete care home, could still get around.

I'm so sorry to hear of your unfortunate circumstances. Although, I donot know you, obviously. I can kinda relate. It's been a year now and me and my companion fur baby have yet to find a permanent place to call our home. Thankfully do have a roof over our heads. I pray for my brothers and sisters in Christ on a permanent basis. So many drug addicted, homeless, poor, sick, dying out there believing noone cares. I am here to let you know there are people who genuinely do care about the circumstances of the less fortunate. And I do whatever I can whenever the opportunity is there. Never, lose faith. We all go through our own battles for a reason. Just believe. Miracles can and do happen all the time. Don't give up. The earth is Satan's playground and he will use that to his advantage every opportunity he gets. Don't allow him to win you over with his lies and deceit. God bless you. Jesus is the way. The only way.
