WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING TO ME?!

- Nissan Skylines are old cars now and finding parts for them is getting harder. I'm sure you can understand why I'm upset that another transmission blew up. What's worse is I don't know why it keeps happening!

As someone in the automotive industry, I can honestly say that the quality of parts has significantly decreased across the board with manufacturers.
As a mechanic, I agree, post 2018-2019 after Covid, supply chain and quality control has gone to shite
Yes I agree...since C-19...but it's just a coincidence!
@@jessesward9429 exactly.
The future is hydrogen and aftermarket sellers
These companies were already looking for an excuse in their race to the bottom, and they sure did take that excuse when it showed up.
Hi Sam, I've worked rebuilding gearboxs and diffs for the last 10 years.
I believe the failure was not letting the gears work harden. Generally with new builds we recommend 1500kms of driving and the oil changed before any dyno runs or hard work is done with the transmissions or diffs.
Would be interesting to get the gears hardness tested to see if theres any difference between the two gearboxes.
thats what i thought theres a reason for break in periods when buying a new car and its just not for the engine
Awesome feedback
Alot of people dont know or do this. New motorcycles its a must so should be no different
“No way he broke another trans”
*Sam gets the tape*
This is definitely a factor. Need to be driven......
Nissan needs to hire you for a transmission quality control lol
2:24 if they're surgeons, they are not very good ones, the patient keeps coming back 😂😂😂
Need to get sam a shop shirt and the name tag say trans reaper. 😂
Maybe try to break it in then change the oil before you go out and compete in it one little piece of filing or dirt from manufacturing can chip a gear and then it starts to eat itself
It is possible the gears didn't mesh correctly at peak torque due to lack of break in.
@@BassManBobBassCovers Almost, since its a 5 speed box, if the box flexes thanks to shocks loads(which happen, with all gearboxes, some more than others)
the third gear is is the weakest link since when the shafts flex the third is the one it is the most bowed outward, which is why it usually sheers the easiest.
wrote a bit more in a comment here but the gist is: less torque and lessen the load on the transmission.
I have 36 and 38 year old Nissan standard transmissions and they like Redline 75-90 but its expensive and hard to get sometimes. I mean for regular folks who need to change their oil not the whole thing!
Suck it up mate, you could be living in Scotland 11 months of overcast weather and 30 mins wait for a bus, perspective.
Just be proud of daiki when he opens his own transmission shop with all the knowledge he has learned from you..😂
Maybe trans needed to heat cycle
for a while before taking to track
Wouldnt it be cheaper to rebuild it and do treatments to harden the gears? Or get an aftermarket gearset. Never understand why so many youtubers get brand new parts than blow them instantly.
No warranty on the gearbox from Nissan? You need also to break in gearboxes/transmissions.
The R34 Skyline gearbox is just a bit stronger as the SR20DET 5 Speed gearbox for drifting, it's just stronger for Drag, straight line racing/driving. But if it comes to drifting R34 gearbox is also weak.
Sam, make sure there is nothing binding up your driveshaft, differential, axels, Etc
Something is cause it to bind up
You would definitely hear it if it was something like that, smaller diff gears might make it a little more easier to spin those wheels.
i think you need straight cut gears bro :) for how ruff drifting is on transmissions
I bet a custom transmission made to get 1000hp would last longer and would be cheaper on the long run...🤔
You should have put the CD009 in it. They are one of the strongest oem boxes around.
I was surprised you removed the CD009 from the pink S15 to put an RB25 box in it.
Couldve been assembled on a friday afternoon 😂
Or on a monday morning😂😂
Forgot to put oil in the trans Sam, that gave me a good laugh! Best of luck with this one, hope it lasts you. Cheers mate!🏅
You can put straight gears like sequentials have, hopped on google and found them but no idea about the cost, having the engine up to temp is one thing having the gearbox also to temp might also help but not sure if it will make enough difference to prevent it from failing, anything big into competing will also put a lot of stress on the gears it's not just the power, bigger tires = more grip but the gearbox will also suffer from it, same thing with lower tire pressures, better of just getting straight gears and getting that piece of mind.
Love the content! Keep it coming!
Definitely a few variables to consider. Whether it's oil viscosity, break in time, or the pop can c-clips used on the shifter. Always a learning experience with automotive.
Good to see a little work on Daiki's car!
Its a alignment issue between the engine and diff. I had to shim the diff centre over a touch to solve my issues
That's what I'm thinking he admitted the shifter kept falling out because he said he was missing c clip and you got to think he's driving a brand new transmission trying to drift slamming it into gear or trying to he said it broke right after that. Sam always tries to make 100 excess and then somewhere in the video he'll tell the truth up watching news happened what doesn't want to sound stupid
Hi Sam, i've owned my R33 GTST spec 2 40th anniversary mr250 for over 15 years. In the first 5 years of owning it i blow the 3rd gear with only 280bhp (at the time). I had second and third gear short pinned and was told that the 3rd gear is a weak spot in all skylines.
Once it was re-built i was told to not go over 3,000 rpm for the first 2000 miles and then do an oil change. Since then with more power the gearbox has been good as gold.
Hope this helps.
Awesome video as always Sammit. Dammit Sammit sends another transmission to the transmission graveyard wonder when he's going to send a differential to the the grave.
Put a Navara gearbox in they're stronger if I recall they're a straight swap too
Dammit Sammit you strike again for blowing another transmission you and Daiki must be like a pit crew now and build and change a trans in 10min 👍
All I saw at 13.30 was Mission Oil, I have a good feeling about this 💯🤙
Yo bro so been dealing with the same thing, it’s shock loading that kills the rb25 trans so one piece driveshaft, unsprung clutch, non shockproof gear oil, solid engine and trans mounts all these items transfer driveline shock into the gear sets causing them to be the weakest point. I’m considering going from my triple disk ORC to a bonded and riveted single disk. The bonded portion takes up any play in the rivets think of it like the slightest play on the end of a tape measure where you have play same thing with the disk rivets while definitely less play it still induces issues where the clutch disk material can be prone to ripping off the disk
If the gearstick was falling out maybe that lead to the damage? If it slipped into another gear or wasn’t fully aligned properly maybe that could cause some damage?
3RD TRANSMISSION IS THE CHARM put that one some merch
0:43 an unexpected "dammit sammit" appears to crack me up XD
This is super common on Volvo M46/47 and even M90 transmissions to sheer gears, especially third gear.
Usually it's flex from too much torque on the engine and and aggressive clutch to put a shock load which bends the shafts slightly. The closer to the middle of two shaft you are, the easier it is to sheer gears.
which makes third the weakest in the 5 speed boxes.
I'm not super into skylines and how their boxes work. but I'd say there is probably something similar going on here.
how you fix it is simply a stronger box or if you really need a weaker box to last: less grip on the rear tires, less aggressive clutch(to lessen the shock load) or to change the power curve and have turbo be a bit lazy with boost control. I know, it sucks)
Usually what i think when it comes to a lasting drive-train with my Volvo 740 build I'm currently doing it is finding the clutch that can take the least amount power, but still enough keep the power going to wheels. not going overboard with a clutch. and also to have a clutch that is weaker than gearbox. so the clutch starts to slip first instead of breaking a box(i know what i would rather change.
And if you go through a couple of clutches or they start slipping to early in it's life span, think about the power level if you don't wanna do another box.
Hope this saves someone some headache!
I finally got the video notification without having to go look to see if you posted that day. For some reason the last 2 weeks I've had issues with that and I've been subscribed for a few years now. Hopefully it's fixed but we will see on the next video
Sam be like hi im sam im the transmission grim reaper😂
The kafunshou doesn’t need to come from China, there’s plenty enough from Japanese Hinoki to do the trick. Probably destroys transmissions as well.
The buster not double clutching like he should. 😂
OMG all the chunks and that poor 3rd!
Think of it this way you have a lot of spare parts and can practice building a transmission or use it as spare parts.
Like the good old mcm reference Japanese bondage tape 😂
As i said about that Transmission with a Dammit tape around and make it a Tshirt would be reasonable now HAHAHA
Let someone else do it ! If you’re going through that many transmissions it’s you !
For checking the steer angle you should get a set of alignment turn plates to set under the wheels.
I love his content ❤Makes me want to rewatch all of his old auction videos 😁
We get that pollen here in Florida every year around this time
Life is so hard lol people on $15 an hr, no money for transport or food, only just surviving. Oh well, car events coming up and a new 3k turbo :D
Redline Shockproof gear oil.
just do a break in of 804km/500miles before beating on it and change the oil right before you go to the track and should be okay
Merch needs to be you in the R33.4 wearing a grim reaper outfit with just transmission oil everywhere and May sticking Dammit Sammit Tape across the car 🤣
They are good for straight lines . Not so much with a massive power load in second and third with the instant torque from a clutch kick. More so around 300 torque some can get away with a little more for awhile but 3-400 max !!
Sam in Grip racing is actually going to be so cool
Like the video so Sam can get a backup trans for his backup trans!
Some times stuff just sucks. While it dont seem like it in the moment, the suckiness leads to necessary improvements and therefore better times even if it takes a long time
We have the same pollen issue here in Houston right now bro. All my cars are yellow lol
The "woes" of deep February in FDJ land..This will have an interesting explanation to it.
Lol I love how he blames anything and everything then admits the truth then acts like it could have been any of those things.
These types of problems are solved or mostly eliminated by constant maintenance and knowing what is in your car. He has gone along with that engine and those transmissions for awhile and got lucky. I think the engine that he purchased in that s-frame was some weird extra engine they just assembled and sold to him. The tell-tale was the manifold on it that looked like some kind of missile exhaust.
Rileys joke was perfect
that fluid coming out of the old trans seemed extremely runny/liquid for trans fluid. My experience is mainly with old American muscle cars, but with those, the fluid is only that runny when it is up to temp.
When you install the front plate, does the FSM require any sort of end play/free play measurement? I'm concerned that tolerances were upset by doing that which could have possibly caused the failure? That, and not breaking in the gears, as well as using WAY too thick of an oil would likely result in damage.
I guarantee those other gears are damaged in some way, hair line cracks. I wouldn't trust gears that were in a case with a gear that broke. All those broken pieces in there, thats a big nope.
Nissan: the official tape sponsor of Japanese bondage.
Well the first time you forgot to put oil in it so that's understandable, and it happened again because you didn't break it in before beating on it. Next one you get, break it in properly with street duties and let the metal work harden, flush the oil and then give it some beans and I bet it will be all g. Alot of ppl say past 500hp you need to upgrade the box but I have a mate in one of the 33 groups who is pushing over 1k HP through a stock 25 box and another at 800hp so they are definitely strong and if treated right wont break that easy. All the best good sir.
At this point. You have three new transmission case's to learn from. REBUILD THEM! UPGRADE SYNCROS
May is already pregnant again good job buddy
Buddy is giving her that good d
😂
Dammit sammit
Man stays busy 24/7
They are working on building a family pit crew
The snickering from May was epic.
Sammit that must be hurting your bank account having to keep replacing gearboxes .
Definitely has fluid now, good job guys.
Awh the one more racing channel I needed. Great content, love all the beautiful shots and plenty of lessons to learn. May is good too :D
Blew 3 in a month at only 570hp, straight line pulls on mickey t et streets.. went a par dogbox and has been mint for years now at higher power 👍
3rd is weak on rb25 and GTR transmissions, Seen plenty blow 3rd with 450-600rwhp. the r34 box improved the syncros, not gear strength. I am running an OS gear set with 680rwhp, no issues.
Just a thought but maybe the trans or engine mounts maybe at a bad angle causing binding during hard driving
Its crazy to think how Daiki compete previously with all that used part he got. Really glad that now Sammit is taking good care of him and his car. Good luck with the race you two!!
Give the new gearbox some time to run in instead of instantly goin to the track. Gears need to harden
OK last few eps...Linus Tech...Mighty Car Mods...👏👏👏👏
Go Team Sammit. Luv it when a transmission goes in first time.. ✌️🤘🇯🇵🇦🇺
The transmission reaper!
Sammie should have just got a dog gear set with all the money he has spent on the extra transmissions would still be fairly street able with a helical set or even the speedtek kit from aus rated for 1000hp or even the 600hp kit would do for this car
Im running 470rwhp on an unopened rb20 box and it has not missed a beat!
Put navara gears in it then it will handle 400 kw all day mine had no problem once we put the built box in and only a single plate clutch
Sammit youre breaking the car
Congratulations for using transmission oil great to see 😂😂😂😂😂
Check your propshaft balancing!
Maybe you need to upgrade the gears. Make it stronger
They have those shots you can get. You have to take the allergy test which is a bunch of little pokes on your back. it sucks but. they will then customize a shot you get one a month. no more allergies or you just ride it out and hope for the best
The reaper is dai yongge.
Transmission surgeons on duty
[ 2:26 ] LEGENDS 🎉
RB-25 and R154 killer.. Sam you are a murderer 😅😂
Yea, it’s not the transmissions, more like the abuser.
maybe you do or do not know, but you should try to pull the tab at the bottom of those straps, instead of using the exacto knife :)
At this point you should make the wall of grim reaper with all these transmissions
real street performance
Have a great inkling from you say you were missing a clip that it lodged in the transmission and blew it from a clutch kick? Couldn't say in a perfect world but try the old shifter?
Him trying to drift a brand new transmission the shifter he said kept falling out and if it wasn't lined up right and him trying to slam it into gear I'm sure he heard a grind and knows exactly what he did but doesn't want to seem stupid for not putting oil in one and then not setting up the shifter right and if you didn't do it on the last one he probably didn't do it on the one before so all three of these transmissions have been his fault
at least this transmission is stronger than the Holden Cruze JH sealed transmission that keeps blowing up every 139,000km HAHAHAH
on that note, the ford falcon Fg's Zf's tranny are known to break
You should use Tremec T56 transmission with over 700hp!!!
For hard abuse r34 rb25 gearboxes blow up from 205rkw to 250rkw
i want to chill with daiki. We can smoke ciggys and call stuff “siiiiick”
Ur drive shaft is way too long binding up the gearbox. Also clutch is too aggressive. Use a single plate sprung. RB box can't anything bigger. And also a brand new dam gearbox. Run it through at least 10 heat cycles before any drifting.
You need straight cut gears on .a race/rally/especially drift car, for the price of a brand new box can you not have a second hand one rebuilt with a Hollinger strait cut gear set? But hey..maybe try a n/a box Silvia s ,they're ment to be stronger ,probably steel cast instead of a fast aluminum resulting in a more riged structure, my s14 went though 7 gear boxes as a street driven car, the 7th box was a N/a
Because too much Power haha
Nissan QC has been kinda poopy lately. I guess you could try cryo treating the gears?
as DJ kahlid would say "another one!"
*Sammit, The GrimReapper GearBox* is in da house!!!! 😂
Sammit I'm also allergic to pollen that's the only thing. I was told the if you source local organic honey and add it into you diet it will help with outbreaks of said Hay fever symptoms. Peace and Aloha from oahu.😊
Damnit sammit the reaper
