    This is by far my favorite game engine
    As someone who has zero hope in learning how to properly code, I LOVE behaviors and how everything functions
    It's the only engine you can pickup and learn entirely by yourself

    I'm a beginner to game development and gdevelop actually motivated me to not give up. Mainly because it's free and is very beginner friendly. I didn't know much about game engines but I was able to jump right into it and make a game without frustration. I love Gdevelop!

    I saw Brackey's video about Godot, got really excited to follow his video and start learning but I enjoy GDevelop too much. I started making games a few months ago with no experience and zero knowledge of coding and I've been able to make 2 simple games already. A top-down shooter based off Master Wesley's excellent tutorials and my own "Breakout" type game 😎
    GDevelop is amazing for beginners, 10/10 👏🏻

    YES! These are the tutorials you need to upload. Your other ones are way too fast and assumes people are watching that have already worked with the engine.

      There's been several times I'd have to go back to sections of some videos and replay them at 0.25 speed because he was going WAY too fast.

    Of all the gamemakers I tried (Gamemaker, Godot, Construct and others), the logic of gdevelop is the most intuitive! You guys created something amazing. IKeep growing and improving. hope all the success to gdevelop team!

    Já desenvolvi diversos jogos excelentes utilizando o GDevelop. A plataforma é extremamente intuitiva; você utiliza mais a lógica do que códigos para criar praticamente qualquer coisa, o que é verdadeiramente incrível. Mal posso esperar pelo momento em que esse mesmo sistema estará disponível para a criação de jogos em 3D.

      Tecnicamente ele já consegue fazer jogos 3D, porém, bem simples. Dá uma olhada em seus tutoriais...
      Eu espero que, no futuro, essa questão melhore nele, assim como aconteceu com Godot que não era muito bom para 3D no começo...

      @@EderRSW Eu tenho uma boa noção dos limites atuais da capacidade 3D da Gdevelop - são bastante restritos, incapazes de criar algo verdadeiramente cativante por enquanto. Contudo, mantenho a convicção de que em poucos anos ela se tornará impressionante.

      @@PrasadOfRA not a big difference. I honestly say Construct is a little be more easy and convenient. Gdevelop has a bit bigger learning curve (just a bit). But once you learn it - it has same opportunities, functions and it is free!
      Construct 3 prices are ridiculous.

    A good tutorial but also I like the workflow you showed. It was about getting one thing right before moving on. I also think showing common things happening helped

    I appreciate this because for a while I was starting to feel like Gdevelop was getting a little to heavy for me. Brackey came a long and was like "I'm gonna show you how to use Godot!" and I was ready for some super easy tutorial in it being I started with it back in the day, but after a while I just kept thinking "I could do half this game in Gdevelop in 15 minutes," (nothing against the guy, I was hangin' in there with his explanation for a bit at first) but when I was done watching I was ready for a new Gdevelop tutorial.

      I think this speaks more to you as a person.
      Yes, a lot of the stuff in Brackey's video can be done in a shorter timeframe with no-code engines like this one, however that was only covering basics, so it's not the fairest of comparisons. Of course the engine meant to be super-beginner friendly can do all the basic stuff quicker. It's when you get into more advanced stuff where an engine like this might struggle.

    While i love that you showcase that a lot of things can be easily achievable with only a few clicks (with extensions), i feel like you could have included other paths of achieving certain things in engine. For instances, the animations can be done in so many different ways and you can personalize your code for your use cases quite a bit, something that may be not that important, but when you do it by extensions only, it can make people feel like you are using the same cookie cutter for every game you make.
    Like I said, Extensions are cool and powerful, very good when you have something in mind and want to make it fast, but pushing a little bit of exploration, working around the engine capacities before jumping into those options can lead to people learning better about how powerful Gdevelop can be.

    for beginner friendly, usually ide separates which part are executed at the beginning and which parts are executed per frame to avoid beginner friendly confusions.

    Was going to recommend this to someone completely new to game programming. But you tried too hard to make it look like GDevelop is way faster. You point to the Brackeys assets for the game, and you just gloss over that you had already pulled the knight images out to separate files, whereas Brackeys described what a spritesheet was etc and why they are used. So, the very first step in the video of creating a game character would have the person leave your video, on to another trying to find out how to get individual images from a sprite sheet. Maybe you could have created your own resource folder with this already done (with attribution to the original author).

      I do appreciate Brackey's for, while not explaining everything (namely the code), still explaining some more basic game engine functionality so you weren't completely in the dark about how everything works. It's something he's very good with.
      I do have to commemorate GDScript for being pretty human readable as a programming language, assuming you already know basic language terminology.

    Can u make a tutorial video on how to add "cheat codes" to your game
    For example if u type "coins" in the main menu of the game you'll get 9999 coins and stuff simular to that (like getting a special weapon after typing a specefic code) it will be a great addition to the game also keep up the great work

    I have done exactly what you did, thus Enemy is horizontally flipped part but the enemy does not move. it stays where it is

      If you mean it runs into the object and doesn't turn around, check the placement of your "checker" point. I had problems myself because I accidentally moved my "center" point instead of my "checker" point so it didn't register the collision. Hope this helps!

    If you want to make the engine great include full 3d and also tilemap/tileset tools. It's very tedious you can't build your world directly inside of the engine. Also there needs to be severly more tutorials :/ otherwise you're my fave engine but in the long run you will fall behind the others if u don't change it up a bit :)

    Hello, thank you for your tutorial. I've encountered a problem: why does my character become blurry as soon as it starts moving, but appears clear when it stops? What could be causing this issue?

      Check the resources tab and scroll to find the images for that animation in your list, check to see if they're set to "smooth image". That's a common issue, people adding images to their game when it's set to linear in your game properties will automatically set that checkbox to smooth the images.
      If that's not the issue, try checking the example project in engine(Linked in the description) and compare your game to that version.

    Hey! Is there a way to choose multiple sprites at once from the asset store when creating an animation? I have to add them frame by frame.
    The asset store closes every time after I add 1 sprite, can not ctrl+click or shift+click.

      There is an example game in engine, it's linked in the description or listed as "simple platformer" in the example game list.
      You can open that up to. See what might be different with your game.

      @@GDevelopApp Hi there! I'm having the exact same issue. I have both the example project and my identical open side-by-side on with their Events tabs open. And despite their being exactly the same (up through this point in the video), the enemy is not moving.

      @@GDevelopApp Hi Wesley! So while everything *looked* the same to me, I fell back on the ol' standby of, "just delete it and do it again."
      So I deleted the enemy controls, did it again, and it works fine now. Actually I went back and redid the enemy controls from another GDevelop tutorial video first, but then I decided I wanted to try this again. Both worked for me.
      Anyhoo, just thought I'd follow up for anyone else who finds this comment in the future if they have a similar issue.

      The number variable action doesn't exist anymore, there are only two variable actions, one for objects and one for the other variables.

    This broke for me around the moving the enemy left and right. I did it 3 times and the enemy would refuse to flip. I give up.

      There is a platformer example game in engine that has that built in to the game, you can open that example and have a look, and there are 3 videos about that game here on this channel to explain it.

    How do you get the individual frame by frame images?

      We added a link in the description to a google drive with the assets cut up to use along with this video, and there's an example game you can open in engine with all of the art already in engine.

      @GDevelopApp thank you. In general though I have been downloading different assets and when I try to for example load the sprite it will have the image with like 8 sprites? I'm not sure if this a common thing and I'm missing something?

      ​@@KoubToub It depends on who created the art. Some creators will have each frame set up as it's own image, and some will have sprite sheets like you're describing. If the art is in a sprite sheet you'll need to cut it up to use it.

    hello gdevelop , i downloaded the asset you used in the video but the original asset is a tileset and i dont know how to use tilesets , i've seen in the video the asset was in Single Images not a tileset . Can i get the normal asset or the program you used to Convert a Tileset to Single Images ?

      That is one of the worst parts about Gdevelop, it does not support tilesets. You have to manually separate and save them.

      @@deuswulf6193 there is an extension which apparently lests you load animation sprites from spritesheets, but also Piskel which is built-in in GDevelop lets you do that. probably a matter of time until they natively implement spritesheets.

    I wonder how many will just give up once they realize Gdevelope cannot work with tile sets. Not a good idea to make this video with assets that are just that.

    I downloaded the sample assets from the website but images in the sprites folder are all on the same image sheet (for example, all the knight animations are on a sheet, platforms on another, and so on). Do I have to manually cut them one by one or is there some kind of utility inside gdevelop which helps me doing it faster?

      takes a lil time but yea, need to manually do it. and i think piskel does it but ive never tried it. i always just use aseprite

    The method of detecting Enemy collision with the environment doesn't seem that efficient. What is an easy way to check if the enemy colliding with ANy of the platforms?

      You could make a collision object and make it invisible at runtime, then place them where you want the enemy to flip. I haven't tried it, but it seems like it should work.

    I can not figure out how to access the assets. everytime i click on the images it takes me to a photo app on my computer.

      Not sure why that's happening, but this game is also an example game in engine. So if you open the example games up and look for "simple platformer" you'll find a project with all of these assets already added to the project.
