11 years later and this passionate speech still brings tears to my eyes and makes me want to run thru brick wall!
Inky was going to be an awesome football player. But God found another use for his skill set.
Mr. Johnson,
I am not a Vol but that is great stuff. God Bless You. War Eagle.
This is, basically, the greatest video of all-time.
Fuck Alabama.
I have watched Your speech about a dozen times . It never ceases to amaze me . From just one nobody Vol fan..Thank You , Inky . You embody the legend of the team .
you are truly classy and much more than the Alabama fan who posted earlier, he doesn't even begin to know the true meaning of a volunteer for life!
Even if you are a Georgia, LSU, Florida, Tide, or any other fan of football you should enjoy this video. Inky Johnson was simply comparing football to life. Leave it all on the line, and give your all every day. Beautiful speech.
I got goosebumps and teared up!

The best by the best "Inky Johnson" a true Volunteer. You really captured the spirit of really what it's all about in this video, true to yourself & God & your team-mates. After watching this video, I get a sense of pride that a new era has started. Thanks, VFL
I have always been a Vol fan. I grew up going to the games and have being going to home games since I was in 4th grade. I am about to graduate from UT this year, and I will always be a Vols fan - it's in my blood.
I remember all the greats. At 36 years old I remember all the magnificent players. We are talking White, Pickens, Manning, Carter, Burnett, Lewis, Inky, Berry and soooo many more. Go Big Orange!

Vol for life, how could you not be? Tim Smith.
When General Austin Shofner returned from WWII one of the first things he did was to visit his former Coach, General Robert Neyland. General Shofner had led the only escape from the Japanese POW camps in the Philippines, worked with the Filipino Resistance, reported to FDR (for the first time) the real conditions of Allied POWs; asked for another combat assignment and was wounded on the second day of the Liberation of Peleliu. After recovery was Headquarters Chief of Staff for the Invasion of Okinawa and lead a Diplomatic Liaison for the Liberation of China.... The two men were delighted to see one another, shook hands, and Shofner took a seat.... After some small talk, among Neyland and those few gathered, General Bob Neyland asked General Shofner how he was able to escape..... "Well, sir, I took one of you examples......., I looked for an Opportunity and I seized it..." Bob Neyland looked his former player dead in the eye.....and, the others in the room saw the only time tears came to Neyland's face, as these tears had mates. Neyland hugged Shofner and said, "Son, I am so Proud YOU are Home...!" A student athlete had taken the lesson to heart..... General Neyland's Maxims......, No. 2. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way - SCORE. The lesson NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER LET DOWN...... From the Smoky Mountains, to the Mighty Muddy, from Rolling Bluegrass, to Crimson Clover; MY, Our Tennessee and, at the end of the day, may She wrap her arms of Honor around me and Hold me Tight in Her Clay.... www.nytimes.com/1999/11/17/us/austin-conner-shofner-83-led-escape-at-pow-camp.html
