Tranquil moments in spring from a draining beaver pond

  • A few tranquil moments from a large beaver dam in Spring 2023. One of the highlights is a wolf standing on the dam watching an eagle swoop down trying to catch a duck...pretty neat!
The footage, except the opening sequence, is chronological and shows how melting snow and run-off caused this dam to blow and the pond to drain, despite the beavers’ best efforts.
By early summer, beavers had clearly abandoned this pond, most of the water had drained, and the pond was a fertile meadow with lush green grass growing in it.
And we would have had more footage to include in this compilation but a few black bears had other plans for our camera...

Only problem with this video is it's too short! I could have watched that pond for hours. 😍

The beavers are allowing it to drain because they're moving on to a different place.
Beavers can occupy a pond for years, sometimes even decades, with multiple generations of the beavers taking over the pond...
But eventually all the good forage in the area is eaten, so the beavers have to move up or downstream. When most of the deciduous trees in the area are gone, and there's predominantly conifers left, thats when the beavers move.

When we pay for the killed bodies of fellow animals and their bodily secretions, it harms every body.
It takes far more land from vital native habitats, scarce fresh water, and plants to funnel through the bodies of exploited gentle animals vs. Feeding a human child directly.
The humility of a bean burrito.

@@KudaKeileon We seldom recognize how our actions do not align with the respect we hold for life.
The constant needless demand to eat animal products by forcibly bringing more life into existence is pushing vital native biodiversity to extinction.
We all have to eat but none of us need to eat the decaying bodies of dead animals, mother cow/goat lactation breast milk for her calf turned cheese products, and period eggs of female birds to promote human health.
By eating the source of all essential nutrients from an array of plants and fungi is the greatest act in conserving a healthful environment for all.
