72 hour fast - Would I do it again?

  • So much hype around these 72 hour fast, so I had to try it for myself. I did love to see the physique benefits but was it worth it? Hard to say. I think there is a lot of benefits for different people and different body types. I think I may experiment with this again around summer town with out having bad off season habits through the holidays. Have you tried a 72 hour fast? Tell me about your experience.

    My wife and I tried this last weekend...It was a somewhat difficult but rewarding experience. Some hunger the first day, but the second day was fine. Third day wasn't bad, I could actually tell I was more focused and deliberate when talking to people...I felt less jittery than normal (more at peace?).
    At the end of the fast, we rewarded ourselves with some chicken strips...I felt euphoria similar to when I graduated Army boot camp back in the 90's! I haven't overeaten since.
    The biggest thing I found through the experience is that you have to stay busy. I only felt the urge to eat when I was bored, so I worked outside in the yard, did spring cleaning in the house, etc.

    Please keep up your many ongoing efforts and thank you
    for everything.
    I hope that plan for the nearby pump track actually comes into
    being. It would be pretty cool..and most importantly...not just
    for you...but for everyone around. The local kids will love it.

    Fasting is easy. Should be a part of everyone's lifestyle. 1, 3-5 day fast per month.

    I fast a few times a month. The body needs it. You have to think about it like this. It's just recently in human history where people's lives have changed to eating daily multiple times. At some points people had no idea where the next meal was coming from. At 51 5'7" I weigh between 158 and 168 lbs. I do it to keep weight under control because I destroyed my back in the Army. Keeping my weight in check helps because my frame doesn't have to carry the extra that puts more pressure on my back. Looking good brother.

      Good point. I hurt my back in the Army as well. I can certainly tell it in my knees and back when I start packing on some additional weight.
      My wife and I have committed to a monthly fast going forward.
      I don't want to look like I'm carrying a ruck sack on my front as I get older...it not a good look 🙂

      @@MrMckee you know it. Biggest problem we face is coming from being at athlete performance to a stand still. Can't run so I do alternate events in my retirement. Bike and power walking. Still do calisthenics as I can warm up cool down and stretch. I just got a stem vest from the V.A. that's pretty high-speed. Does 3 phases pain relief, muscle work, and nerve stimulate. Works better than my tens unit. I get a couple hours of less pain with the vest.

    I dropped 50 lbs using intermittent fasting (OMAD). Since going carnivore, I can easily fast, but don't find I need to. Weight has held for a year, sick strength and energy gains. But, fasting is always a tool I keep in my back pocket.

      My carnivore journey started for weight (30lbs) but the real benefit was lack of pain on a daily basis, even after workouts. My gates have improved along with track energy and performance. Keep up the good work carnivore!

    The old “Snake Diet” I have done it a bunch of times. It’s definitely discipline 👍

    If you really want to feel good during extended fasts you need to be somewhat keto adapted or in ketosis already, or you will just hit a wall on the second or third day when you go into ketosis. When you go into ketosis your body has burned up all of its glycogen and it sheds all of its water weight and therefore electrolytes. Sometimes it will feel like a moderate flu. If you up your electrolytes during ketosis you can get through the transition better. The euphoric feeling is pretty cool when it hits, but I mainly do long fasts as a way of deep cleaning and for cell repair, basically a hard reset for my body.

    The ice bath effect you’re feeling is actually likely an increase in your cortisol. Although it’s commonly associated with stress, more importantly it’s a piece of how your body deals with stress.
    My cortisol is LOW, so my Dr actually asked me to start doing this or at least ending a morning shower with cold water for a couple minutes. It makes a huge difference.

    As a type 2 diabetic, fasting is fantastic for getting your body to use the stored energy/sugar.

    I'm 6'3" 210lbs. I have visible abs but am not absolutely shredded like you. I dropped 14lbs before the pump track qualifiers in Paris in September 2023 doing a 7day juice fast. My speed increased 3MPH at the same watt output. I did notice a decrease in mental acuity and my reflexes went out the window while on the fast. As far as regular fasting I work out too much to do it. Between weights, work, and riding I frequently burn 4,000 calories a day and hit as I high as 6,800. I eat 6 times a day focusing on protein intake shooting for 200 grams per day. I don't look like a super hero but for an old plant worker with a ton of kids I'm in good health.

    Dang, 3 days. Ooof! I say try it. There's nothing to lose but weight, lol. Just be careful, is all. Too much of anything is bad. Moderation and consistency are key. Start slowly, maybe skip breakfast & lunch one day. I personally fast 1 day per week. Wednesdays. Just water. 6'3" 190 lbs. Age 55. 👊😃👍

      So like if you did some sprint times at the start of your fast vs the end of it see if it effects overall performance

      If you are in ketosis when you start a fast, it is a lot easier. Always consume quality salt water and electrolytes during a fast, and it will be easy

      What ​@@dirty5141said... when i go over 3 days I drink salt water and take potassium to make sure I don't get a headache. Keep drinking water and I also drink black coffee.

      And I go carnivore a few days before fasting so in ketosis/fat burn mode and it's way easier... and beneficial more quickly

    You should do a much longer fast. Idk your fat levels. Kevin James did a 41 day fast and lost around 60 pounds and said he had more energy than he ever had.

    Keep going... at about 3 days is right where you hit clarity mode... then autophogy kicks in and you start burning crap cells too. I always go carnivore a few days before fasting... so I'm already out of carb burning and in to fat burning mode. BMX racing rocks TX13!

      I'll expand on that... I about gave myself diabetes when my 4 year old was born... I was snacking every few hours for about a year with her baby schedule... crashing bad everyday about noon due to blood sugar. I switched to black coffee only with intermittent fasting where I wouldn't eat until maybe lunch but usually dinner M-F with still black coffee and cutting down sugar and carbs in those meals. I wasn't overweight but had some belly chub. Fasting gets progressively easier but sometimes I just bail out when I'm not feeling it. The best I've ever felt was going on carnivore/dairy 0 sugar 0 carbs for a month before the holidays. Some days you just never get hungry on carnivore... which led me to going carnivore for a few days before jumping in to a 7 day... apparently our bodies love to run on carbs and sugar but they run on fats and protein better... sugar and carbs burn first and it takes between 1 and 4 days depending on how "fat adapted" you are to swap from burning carbs to burning fat... that's I guess where going carnivore before fasting comes in to play... that hump of day two and three doesn't come in to play as bad. Once you hit 72ish hours though I have much less trouble making 7 to 10 days... but I've been known to bail if invited to a meal or a bday cake shows up and I don't feel bad about it. Over 3 days I will drink salt water and take a good potassium supplement to keep headaches away and still drink black coffee. Do some looking in to autophogy... that's the main reason I do this now... but it started with warding off diabetes and belly fat. The mental clarity that kicks in at 3 to 4 days is wild... and why people fast for religious purposes. I recommend it highly. I try and do this about every 3 months. Look at how the strongest predators on earth eat. Cheetahs and wolves just eat when they get meat and can go a long time with out it. Bears gorge on fish skin and then go months without eating (don't do this lol). A chicken egg has everything in it you need to make a whole animal. If I eat rice or cookies I'm starving in a few hours... if I eat a plate of bacon I'm good for 24. I'm rambling... go carnivore before fasting and hit 7 to 10 days. What it does to my brain and energy is great. And look in to autophogy... I may look like I'm wearing a tin foil hat to some... but I'm leaning towards humans not fasting and hitting autophogy has led to the rising cancer rates (many cancers not all). I've done a few races while on a fast... it didn't seem to help or hurt but at my level I'm just trying not to die getting around Rockstar park.
