I was an 18-year-old college freshman still settling into my first dorm room before classes even started when the news came. It was a crushing blow. My single greatest musical regret is never seeing him live - I thought I would have plenty of chances to catch him in concert, since he was clean and sober and healthier than he had ever been in his life. His loss hurts me more than any other musician that has been lost in my life - so cruelly ironic to die in a damn helicopter crash after giving up Crown Royal and cocaine for breakfast every morning. When I get to heaven, one of the first things I'm going to ask God is for the recordings of all the music we missed out on because He felt the need to take Stevie Ray from us when and how He did.
My mother was in love with him and his music. When I heard he had died, I had to call to make sure she was alright. I can only hope that when she died nine years later, she got to meet Stevie in the afterlife.
I saw SRV open for Robert Plant in 1988, and to this day it is one of the best performances I have ever seen. I count my blessings every day that I got to see this genius perform at the peak of his powers.
I saw the same show at the Montreal Forum! He got everyone on their feet the whole time and outshone Robert Plant's show completely. I also saw him again as the main act and Jeff Healey opened.
His incredibly fluid and lighting fast playing, young guitarists think he must have been playing with the lightest gauge strings, just the opposite, he played thick strings and had his string action set high, still blows my mind, how in the heck was he able to get such silky smooth licks, from piano strings, on a guitar? Dude could probably peel an orange with his left hand
His hands--like Jimi's hands--were very large, with strong fingers...He occasionally would actually tear off one of his fingernails, when attacking the guitar like he did!
Which is also what caused him to have super thick calluses that would start to or completely tear off...Stevie would just SuperGlue them back on & continue playing..Just a couple more of so many ways & reasons why Stevie was not only a G.O.A.T.,, But definitly a true bada** as well!!...R.I.P. Stevie 🙏🔥❤️🔥
SRV’s talent was mind blowing. It never gets old watching these performances and I’ve seen them multiple times. He was just so damned great. Thanks La/Che for another excellent Saturday with Stevie. 🔥
Every time I watch a SRV performing live, I have a small part of me that is waiting for 2 other guitarists to come out the bushes....SRV just fricking magic on the axe!
I am convinced that’s there isn’t another great player that when they saw SRV wasn’t mesmerized by the force he played with and the almost open channel he was. Just a badass
To say he was the greatest doesn't even begin to describe his talent. He used the heaviest string gauge that was available. I never saw anyone play with the shear emotion and the rawness that was his style. He was truly magical. The day he died I felt like someone had ripped my heart out. I cried for two days because not just myself but everyone who he touched was robbed. He was finally sober and clean and his music was directly effected in how he had overcome his demons and it was displayed on stage and in the studio in a way that was as if he was literally born all over. Stevie was and will always be the greatest.
Riveria Paradise is another great Stevie Ray song that is sooooo good. Thanks, guys, for all the great music and hard work you put into your channel. Your views and commentary are greatly appreciated. Did you notice that SRV broke a string, when he left the stage for the guys to do solos he switched guitars.
The last song SRV performed before the helicopter crash was sweet home, Chicago, and Eric Clapton Buddy Guy Jimmy Vaughan and a couple more great blues performed this song and they all said that everyone could tell that SRV was special that night The guitar that he is playing in this video is like a 1959 finder stra and it was his favorite guitar A reporter asked him his first love and he said it was this guitar SRV said that this guitar talked for him not back to him like a woman
Stevie was channeling as always. Some call it god or the universe but whatever it was it flowed through him to us in a spectacular and beautiful way. Every time I watch him live he gives me goosebumps and brings me joy. RIP Stevie, man you are so missed.
You guys picked a special one to review this time.. Man seriously, who can hold a candle to SRV ??!! NO ONE in my opinion. Keep up the great work.!! Thanks for your selections and honest reviews. Keep it going... We love you both.!!!
Like the gunslingers of yesteryear .. Stevie Ray brandishes his guitar the same as they did their Colt 45's. He was .. and STILL IS .. BAD ASS on guitar! Wonder how many noticed he had switched out guitars .. again?
There are so many great players that I love and love to watch but there’s never been one that just blows me away and makes me watch like ARV did and still does. The sound, the power, passion, skill- just amazing - like a guitar Shaman.
I had the privilege to see SRV in 1986, with his brother Jimmy+ the Thunderbirds being his opening act. COULD NOT SIT DOWN!!! Once the music started, I was in the isle dancing through the whole concert! Stevie drives the vibe and takes you along with him ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I saw SRV live outdoors in San Antonio back in the day. Eric Johnson (another awesome guitar player) opened up for him, then Eric came back for the last song or two with Stevie. It was so awesome! Dang man, I really miss SRV :(
It is the best way to start your day, SRV breakfast, coffee and a hike!! It would have been incredible to see him grow older but you have to appreciate the 35 yrs he was here. Legendary performance🎶🎵🎸🎼
Aloha gentleman. On the studio version. He's working hard . Very clear an precise. Probably one of his best. Changes are radical. Live is great always is but well you'll hear. Peace love out.
This band was SO TIGHT!!! Of course: Stevie was a MAD MAN on guitar...but, his change-ups were INSANE...and, the other band members were SO GOOD at READING HIM!! In the way they worked, as one: they remind me of the GREATNESS of Led Zeppelin....this band was ANOTHER instance of people coming together at the right time and will most likely NEVER occur, again....SO GREAT! How can ANYONE listen to that and NOT wanna MOVE?? The JAM a PARTY!
I don't know if he broke a string but going to a drum solo by Chris was a perfect opportunity to switch guitars. That second guitar 'Butterscotch', also known as simply 'Scotch', was rumored to be the likely future replacement for his old trusty 'Main' or 'Number One', which he started with. It was getting worn out and hard to repair well enough for road use. Had Stevie lived long enough it's likely we would have seen the old relic, but one of a kind in tone, tobacco burst Main retired. Unfortunately that wasn't to be.
Austin City Limits concert..great gig since he did his absolute best in his home state and Austin is where he started...Kudos out to Double Trouble too they always get over looked
"Don't forget about Reese!" You damn well better not. Y'all ought to dig on the version of "Cold Shot" from this same show for that very reason - it's the rare SRV song where somebody else besides him plays the best solo. Even if you know the tune, you need to see this performance of it if you haven't. One of my very favorite sounds in all of music is a Hammond organ in the hands of a man who knows what to do with it, and ooooooh--WEE does Reese Wynans know what to do with it. Good gracious. Have mercy. That solo doesn't just get him an invite to the barbecue, it gets him invited to play at church on Sunday - and I don't mean the Southern Baptist church. One of the baddest solos you will ever hear on any instrument, but especially the beloved Hammond B3 organ.
I know you guys are famous and everything now. But I'd LOVE to hangout with the two of you and have some drinks!! I'm in the same boat as you guys were. Although I knew about SRV. What I didn't know was what kinda music he played. I just thought he was another Jimi Hendrix, who I didn't care to much for. At the time I was a Boogie Boys, UTFO, Whodini, Fat Boys, Run DMC, Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash, Midnight Star kinda WHITE boy. Truly discovered SRV about the same time as you did. AND IT IS SOOOO F'N GOOD!!!! He is THE ABSOLUTE GREATEST OF ALL TIME, PERIOD. End of discussion!!! Now, if I can get you guys onto some Chris Stapleton.....WOW!!! Imagine for a minute that there was a musical artist with the vocal ability of Chris Stapleton and the guitar greatness of SRV......THE WORLD WOULD EXPLODE!!!
Before Double, they were Triple Threat with Lou Ann Barton on vocals. When Stevie would quit his job in bands, the leader often said, "Good! ". Not the normal response. But they knew he was not destined to play in someone else's bad.
Stevie is the GOAT! Came from a working class family in Oak Cliff TX, his dad was a drinker with a temper. His older brother Jimmy started playing guitar by ear when Stevie was 8 or 9; Stevie got very excited and began self-teaching soon afterward. He idolized Hendrix and all the blues greats. The boys used music as an escape, played in local clubs and bands. Jimmy left home at 15 to pursue a music career, already considered among the best in TX. Austin had become a proving ground for young artists & after Jimmy settled there, Stevie dropped out of high school to join the scene, sleeping on pool tables or couch surfing while playing local blues clubs. At the famous club Antone's, he got to sit in with & earned the respect of the great Albert King, who remained a friend and mentor. Jimmy's band, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, was the hot ticket in Austin; but Stevie developed his own fan base locally and eventually formed Triple Threat, which pared down to Double Trouble. They picked up a manager, played venues around the country, then internationally. Jackson Browne offered them free recording time at his studio where they cut the tracks that eventually became their first album Texas Flood.(They sent him a horse as a thank-you gift!)David Bowie used Stevie on his China Girl album which caught immediate attention and catapulted Stevie's into celebrity status but he declined a world tour to remain with his band. Then Texas Flood was released and the rest is history. He and DT played with BB King, Albert Collins, Jeff Beck, and others. Stevie nearly died from cocaine addiction & booze, but got clean & sober at age 31 and his music hit new heights. The performance here was at Austin City Limits, 1989. In 1990 at age 35, Stevie played as a guest on Eric Clapton's tour and left via helicopter with members of Clapton's entourage, when they crashed into a ski hill and all on board died instantly. He's buried in Oak Cliff, and there's a memorial statue of Stevie in Zilker Park in Austin. Jimmy still plays and won a Grammy about 4 years ago. He also accepted Stevie's induction into the R&R Hall of Fame.
Hitting like before the video comes up! I know this is good as I’ve been a listener and fan of SRV since I was a kid. Saw him a few times great showman and even better guitarist!!
Thanks guys! On your own time check out this song Live at Capitol Theater, they had time, where as Austin City Limits songs are shorter, cuz of TV time restraints. But the Live Capitol Theater performance the band gets to breath, and Reece years the colors of the keyboards! 😂..Any way thanks for making my days , better ones! Peace.
And more than 33 years later SRV is still blowing minds with his greatness!
Agree 💯
Amen brother

I remember when he died such a tremendous loss !!!
SRV FOREVER!!!🥁☮☘
SRV ~ 🎸🐐 The goatiest goat in all of goatness
All I can add is "baaaa" ✌️😎
The Greatest by far and not even close.
He plays like his guitar is a part of him!!!🎸🎸🎸🎸
I saw SRV open for Robert Plant in 1988, and to this day it is one of the best performances I have ever seen. I count my blessings every day that I got to see this genius perform at the peak of his powers.
Was lucky to see him in a half empty hall about the same time with Greg Allman opening. Was about two people from the stage. Awesome show.
I saw the same show in Hartford. Fantastic concert.
I saw the same show at the Montreal Forum! He got everyone on their feet the whole time and outshone Robert Plant's show completely. I also saw him again as the main act and Jeff Healey opened.
I saw that gig in Toronto,Stevie was large that night, sorry Robert,a fact.
Wow i thought that was you at that show.
G.O.A.T.
Damn!! SRV is the GOAT!!
BADASS!!!!!!!😯
His incredibly fluid and lighting fast playing, young guitarists think he must have been playing with the lightest gauge strings, just the opposite, he played thick strings and had his string action set high, still blows my mind, how in the heck was he able to get such silky smooth licks, from piano strings, on a guitar? Didn’t he change to 11 gauge strings or did it vary?
@@ikillzuepicly316 After becoming sober, yes, he did drop down to 11-gauge strings.
in the el mocambo show, you can see his palm gray, like when you rub iron on your hands
That band is tight.
🙏RIP STEVIE RAY🙏 💋💋💋💋💋💋
THE greatest guitarist ever
You wanna vibe? Check out the cut.....Riveria Paradise
We love that one.
The 2nd guitar he played, he called it "Scotch". The keyboard player, Reece Wyans is now playing with Joe Bonamassa.
Did he break a string and switch guitars? I thought I saw a broken string but it wasn't real clear.
I don't think so, at least not on this one. Not really sure why he changed guitars.@@kjisnot
One of my favorites! I miss him every day❤
He was on a whole other level after he got sober.
SRV was without question one of the finest blues players;but let us not forget the band.
They would be some stellar musicians there!
They did this sooo much faster than the studio version! The adrenaline was through the roof!
You can only imagine what music he would have produced, and what level he would have gotten too..... If he hadn't left so early.
Rock on SRV !!
SRV’s talent was mind blowing. It never gets old watching these performances and I’ve seen them multiple times. He was just so damned great. Thanks La/Che for another excellent Saturday with Stevie. 🔥
Stevie loved his band like brothers. He was also very generous and split his earnings evenly with them. That's the kind of man he was. 🎸🎸🎸
The F-ING GOAT!!!!!!!! SRV was AMAZING!!
The 🐐
This Album!!! This Song…busted car speakers and a speeding ticket. Memories!
Thank you for more SRV,
That man, good God, what a loss.
Every time I watch a SRV performing live, I have a small part of me that is waiting for 2 other guitarists to come out the bushes....SRV just fricking magic on the axe!

Stevie’s solo after the keyboard solo is the most badass guitar solo ever - he was on FIRE!
Before playing with Stevie, bassist Tommy Shannon was a member of another Texas guitarist Johnny Winter's group.
Stevie tearing it up every song in the set🔥🔥🔥 Who does this? SRV! 🔥🔥🔥
What an incredible talent. So glad I saw him live a year before he passed. I cried that day. My favorite guitarist of all time.
Riveria Paradise is another great Stevie Ray song that is sooooo good. Thanks, guys, for all the great music and hard work you put

Was fortunate enough to see his Vaughan-ness twice live. Unforgettable.
He's playing lead and rhythm at the same time!
Facts & Something he often did. 🔥
Amazing talent.
So happy to see SRV back on the channel..pLEASE check out Leave my lil girl alone from this same show❤❤❤
Glad to see you guys again....SRV.... GOAT 🐐 thanks guys 👍💯
Like the gunslingers of yesteryear .. Stevie Ray brandishes his guitar the same as they did their Colt 45's. He was .. and STILL IS .. BAD ASS on guitar! Wonder how many noticed he had switched out guitars .. again?
Raw, live music by human beings. Concept.
There are so many great players that I love and love to watch but there’s never been one that just blows me away and makes me watch like ARV did and still does. The sound, the power, passion, skill- just amazing - like a guitar Shaman.

Saw that tour. Mind blowing.
Saw that too in Richmond, Virginia if I am thinking of the right concert.
That's why Stevie liked small crowds .being close to the action makes you feel like your in the middle holding an instrument too.
Imagine what he would have done. SRV was sooooo special. Rock on.
I believe that is the first time I've seen the drummer and bassist solo before
Stevie could bring the funk man. I am sad for anyone that didn’t get to see him.
I saw SRV live outdoors in San Antonio back in the day. Eric Johnson (another awesome guitar player) opened up for him, then Eric came back for the last song or two with Stevie. It was so awesome!
Dang man, I really miss SRV :(
Anything from this 89 show is amazing
Just as amazing as it was when it came out
Great choice! My very favorite SRV performance right there.
He was so damn great! Loved him and miss him!
I’ve seen it a thousand times and it never gets old. Love my Stevie!
Hands down my favorite SRV song!
And a smooth guitar change through the band intro for SRV’s solo. Sublime.
We all know that Stevie's fantastic but, you can't get by without noticing Tommy Shannon on bass. They are locked in together always.
Maaaaann, I miss that guy!! Such a great talent. RIP Stevie.
It is the best way to start your day, SRV breakfast, coffee and a hike!! It would have been incredible to see him grow older but you have to appreciate the 35 yrs he was here. Legendary performance🎶🎵🎸🎼
Have you guys reacted to Albert King/ Stevie Ray Vaughan- Born Under A Bad Sign?

WHAT A GREAT BAND, the guy's on keyboards, bass, drums were great and the guy on guitar not shabby either!
His right hand deserves a "best performance" Grammy for that song.

no broken string on this song. he just chose to switch guitars.
This was his return after getting clean and sober. Many countries him out saying he wouldn't have that fire anymore
Austin City Limits concert..great gig since he did his absolute best in his home state and Austin is where he started...Kudos out to Double Trouble too they always get over looked
LEGEND!!!!!!!!

Reese was fortunate to play with two of the all time greatest guitarists when he went on to play with Joe Bonamassa.
Always has been one of my favorite SRV songs
This was a big radio hit for Stevie in 84.
He switched guitars... didn't miss a beat... GOAT 🐐
I was lucky enough to see him play a couple of years before he died. An amazing show!
This was first one I heard from SRV.
Go Laa, Go Chee. God blesses Stevie, then Stevie blessed us….
Spectacular! Funky! ❤

Can't wait to see them watch DVD react to SRV's Leave my little girl alone!
Nobody gives the credit to the bass player, drummer or the keyboard player except Stevie.
As a drummer... Boy I do lol. They were all awesome
Before Double, they were Triple Threat with Lou Ann Barton on vocals. When Stevie would quit his job in bands, the leader often said, "Good! ".
Not the normal response. But they knew he was not destined to play in someone else's bad.
And the day Stevie died, my life changed forever. Also Incomparable.
I know nothing about Stevie Ray but if that song is anything to go by Whooha! ⭐️😁

@@melanieredfield9736 wow thanks for that💚 I’m in the UK which is probably why I don’t know about his music or story. But I do now. 😁⭐️
@@kevinaldridgeIt's a deep and satisfying rabbit hole to jump into.
Hitting like before the video comes up! I know this is good as I’ve been a listener and fan of SRV since I was a kid. Saw him a few times great showman and even better guitarist!!

His first band was called Triple Threat, it was him and two guys.
this is fire, and molten lava
This song was my introduction to my SRV addiction, saw the video for this song on MTV and immediately went to Musicland and bought the vinyl!
Yep. Same.
''PRIDE & JOY'' and "LOOK AT LITTLE SISTER".....!!!!
Man oh Man......SRV & DT..... PERFECTION
I think it is one of his top 3 songs….Saw Reece Waters with Joe Bonamassa last year, who he is with now,and he still kills it.
Fun fact: SRV would Super Glue the callouses on his fingers when they’d crack. Tough hands!
Always top notch at every position! This version is quite sped up from the studio but always amazing
RIP stevie
Stevie was finally clean here
Does anybody today play that well? If there is please show us guys. Such a cool sound.
