      @@mallorydavisphotography Focusing with a rangefinder will become second nature to you soon. And composing through a rangefinder is transformative for many photographers because everything you see is in focus. Your mind subconsciously renders in your head what the image will look like according to the aperture you’re selecting. You’re taking photos the same way painters see a scene before they sketch it out.

    Congrats for this new toy. M6 is fantastic camera. Voigtlander lenses are really good. If you are looking for a longer lens I can recommand the Voigtlander 75mm Nokton f1.5 which is very good and very very sharp. for a shorter lens I have the Leica 28mm f2,8 Elmarit and the Voigtlander Ultron f2,8 smaller but even better 🙂
    Enjoy your new camera ... have fun ....

    As other have mentioned, the Nokton 35 F1.2 is a great lens, it is however huge and very much a specialty lens. I highly suggest The voigtlander Ultron 35mm F2 V2 if on a budget, the Nokton 50mm 1.5 II is another fantastic affordable fast small lens.

      nailed it, I have actually returned this lens bc WOAH... so heavy! not to mention focusing was a pain in the butt! I went for the voigtlander 35 f1.4 which is WAY smaller :) will likely add the 50mm down the road.... thank you for watching, Kevin!

    You are going to Love shooting with range finders. Try to peak with your right eye if you can so the left eye can see the surroundings. The M6 is my next camera. Also went in the rabbit hole and ended up since 2021 with a Q2, not a Q3 and shooting a lot with an M11. The range finder experience is something else. Reminded me when I used to shoot my dad's camera.

    Damn, you make it even harder for me to make a decision :D
    Since a few weeks I used the Canon AE1 which was passed down from my father and put several rolls through and it was very fun to shoot analog, specially black and white. B/W analog just looks different and I like the look.
    Now I'm tempted to get an used M6, since I recently had the chance to play around with the M10 and the rangefinder focusing, although it takes time to get used to it, I can understand why people say it can be quicker and more reliable compared to AF when you have the muscle memorie.
    Being able to to get my daughter in focus with a rangefinder while she was running made me happy :D
    May I ask, how much you paid for that M6 classic?

    • @mallorydavisphotography
      @mallorydavisphotography  Год назад +1

      the canon AE1 is AWESOME! I have 2 now... 1 I bought and 1 I inherited from my mom :) I ended up paying ~$4k for this used setup from KEH. Both the lens and the camera are in EXCELLENT condition too.

    Cool, I actually have your exact same set up. The Voigtlander is great for both film and digital. However, when mounted on my ME240, I noticed it back focused quite a bit from F1.2 to F2.8, whereas all my Leica lenses were spot on. This was not apparent on film. I reached out to Voigtlander and Cosina, Japan. No one answered. So I wound up sending my lens to DAG Camera for calibration. My Voigtlander was bought brand new from BHphoto long before I had my ME240 digital. So if you decide to get a M digital rangefinder later on, watch out for focus calibration at large apertures.

    • @mallorydavisphotography
      @mallorydavisphotography  Год назад

      great feedback! I'm contemplating sending this lens back to KEH actually... it's HEAVY and the focus ring is extremely slow/difficult to turn... I may take another viewers suggestion of a "cheap voigtlander color skopar 35mm f2.5" ... more to come!

      @@mallorydavisphotography definitely return it. Mine is smooth.

  • @jebeq2007
    @jebeq2007 Год назад

    The lens for that M6 would be the Voightlander Ultron II F2. If you look at all the reviews and even compared to the Summicron ASPH it is sharper and beter microcontrast. I have the Nokton Classic MC F1.4 and I think it's just okay and nothing special about it. I am actually selling my Nocton and will be getting the Ultron II F2. With film it is pretty difficult to shoot very shallow and get critical focus and at the price film is it does not make since to waste shoots on out of focus photos.

    I love that camera, i'm still not sure why anyone wants to shoot 35mm film anymore. FiIm is so expensive, I remember when it was $4 a roll... $20 no way. I spent the 90's in darkrooms and that was enough. I still have a mint Nikon FM2n , I have film in it but I just don't use it. Again I love that Leica M6 and its amazing and everything that it represents is cool so I get it. I wish the M11 was more affordable. Leica why do you do this to us!

    The lens is way too big and heavy for the M6.The voigtländer will block a part of the 35mm viewfinder frame. For sure. And that isn't good. The small and light Leica 35mm f2,0 summicron would have been the better solution.

    IMO you’re doing the same mistake as all first time Leica owners. Buy a small lens with short focus travel and a focus tab. Enjoy the world of zone focus where your photography is instant. Buying a 1.2 lens for a rangefinder is almost (and I mean almost) stupid!;).
    A small and cheap voigtlander color skopar 35mm f2.5 should give you a better experience. Shot at f8-f16 and just enjoy.
    If you’re looking for tap sharp photos with an amazing bokeh from your 1.2 lens, you have chosen the wrong camera, because it will be really hard to get critical focus.

    • @mallorydavisphotography

      HI!!! You know I think you might be right... this lens is HEAVY... and doesn't have the focus tab as you mentioned (which I thought it had!)
