I enjoyed your video and subscribed to you today. I enjoy mixing other peoples multitracks from a raw state to a final mix. To do this I use Logic and a handful of plugins from Waves and although I say it myself, from an amateur home studio perspective, they came out really good. I am looking to progress to the to actual SSL software Channel strip 2 and also the master bus compressor. Those plugins from SSL add up to around £850 UK Pounds. If I purchase the SSL UC-1 It appears I get the UC-1 console and the software comes free for £515 UK pounds, - not forgetting the 360 view - That appears a no brainer unless I am missing something? Peter.
You are absolutely right, if you buy the UC1 you will get all the software for free! I started with the SSL Channel strip when it came up for sale at €50, which is a steal. I loved it so much, I bit the bullet and bought the UC1. After having it for a couple of months I sold my Faderport, saved up & got the UF8 as well, then sold my extra licences. The pieces have sped up my mixing and damn if the don't look great on my desk! haha! You will not be sorry if you get either piece, the are really worth the investment! From cold & not so far from you, Ireland! ☘️💪🏽👀👍🏽☘️
@@SonnyGreenwichJr Hey thanks for responding my friend. I currently use an Icon platform M+ control surface for a bit of hands on mixing, writing automation and the transport controls. It cost £280 UK and worth every penny. Would I like the SSL UF-8 - abso flaming lutely - but at £900 UK - gulp ! - I'll start with the UC1 - I now have to work out how to sneak it into the house, if you know what I mean? lol. Keep up the great work. Peter.
Jim! You are going to love it! It's taking me a while to stop staring at the plugin (I got quite fast with it in the last 6months!) It's just so nice to not have to look at what I'm doing, although I have changed things on the wrong channel a few times!
Nice concept and very tempting to sell some stuff to buy it. 9:58 the 360 program is very impressive, too! But the volume faders are not synced with the DAW - it's a separate layer, right?
It is separate. The volume of the faders is equal to the gain output on the UC1. I have been loving it, using it on all my mixes in the last two months or so. Nice to have a tactile feel! 🔥🧨💪🏽🤠👍🏽🧨🔥
@@SonnyGreenwichJr Yes, I can image that! But then you control the volume only with the UC1 and leave them on zero position on the DAW? What about the Pan? Is there a Pan-Control in the UC1 as well?
@@aioxio I use the volume on the UC1 to control the gain, input /output. Logic Pro controls the individual volumes of the mix and the pan, there is no pan on the UC1. The UC1 just controls the SSL plugins it doesn't have any sound of its own. You can use the plugins without the controller (UC1) but not vice versa.
@@aioxio You could leave the zero position on the DAW and use the gains on the Uc1 but they are meant to control the gain of the recording not their placement in the mix (volume) I hope that's clear? 🤣
@@SonnyGreenwichJr ok I thought so. So your workflow has basically two steps? First make a "foundation recording" with UC1, afterwards make the final mix in the DAW?
Man, I would love to! I don't have one and it'll be a while before I can afford another big purchase, haha! I do have the FaderPort 8 however & I like that, although it's giving me a small problem at the moment... The UC1 is perfect for me because it's just like EQ-ing on a desk. Hope you're doing well!
@@SonnyGreenwichJr I suppose the UC 1 is kind of pointless unless you intend to use the SSL strip on every channel, right? You'll end up with a convuluted workflow if you're using it on some channels and not others.
@@walshythemusician Exactly, I'm trying to pare down my plugins to the very minimum. I will be using the channel strip on every channel (not that I even EQ or compress every channel of a mix). For individual tracks, the channel is dead easy & by far the best I've tried, so I'm all in! I have a few specialist plugins like Soothe, Gullfoss, Oxford Inflator, etc that I will keep, but for instance, the Logic Neve-style EQ is fantastic so why use a third-party one...
Hi Debbie! So glad to have you drop by the channel! If you're recording or mixing your own music this thing is so much fun, it emulates the way things used to be in the recording studio environment. These days, with almost any computer, you can do things that would have cost thousands only a few years back. Much the same as what we can do with editing for RUclips! I'll be over for some great recipes from you shortly! Thanks! From grey but warm Ireland! ☘️☮️🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮️☘️
I wonder if SSL has more items like this to come out. Maybe an entire console scenario? I'd love to have the hybrid mix feel without going out and back into the box or dealing with recalling settings, etc
You may have sold me on the UC1. I've been debating between the UC1 and the Rocksolid Channel Strip controller (which is able to map to multiple plugins....which is a very nice feature). Hence my hesitation in buying the UC1. But, the SSL unit/controller looks great and I do like the 360 mixer screen. I am hoping you like the sound of the unit, especially the EQs and can give us your opinion on that, so I'll watch your other video on the UC1 with using the unit and actual tracks. Thanks.
