i think ariana channeling Kristen in her own way is an iconic tribute, also helps to separate her popstar persona and really make us believe thats not ariana grande playing a rol, thats glinda!
I totally agree! I'd rather have her imitate/pay homage to Kristin Chenoweths Galinda than give the character a more modern pop/R'n'B interpretation, cause that would probably ruin the vibe of the movie and the songs.
To put you a little at ease with Ariana as Glinda, She made sure they kept iconic & key dialogue from the show in the movie. I don't know if you know but Ariana is a Massive Wicked Fan. I have faith she'll make Glinda her own.
@joshuafoster8726 I’ve seen it multiple times and I’m not so sure she’s nailing Glinda as much as she’s nailing Kristen’s Glinda, ya know? And she is top notch at impressions, so I’m hoping it was just a one thing I heard and not that way throughout. I’ve noticed some others that she sounded like KC as well.
@@DDTC73 Wrong. The director of the Movie himself said he would consults Ariana on what Line or Scene to keep. Look up The Hollywood Reporter article: Jon M. Chu Says ‘Wicked’ Aficionado Ariana Grande Consulted on What Lines to Keep: “That’s Bible”. Cynthia Erivo also recently revealed in an interview for Scott Evans that Ariana was in fact the vocal producer/engineer for the soundtrack of the movie and that she would be the one to chose what vocal take to keep or not. And also, both Ariana & Cynthia decided without asking for the director’s opinion that they’ll sang Live on set while filming. So again… wrong, cause Ariana in fact had a lot of say in the Movie.
There’s something so special about watching the reactions of pocs, specifically black women, during the part when they see young Elphaba. That means this movie is doing exactly what it needs to be doing. 💚💗
It’s not just Kristin, though. In ‘What Is This Feeling’ Elphaba comments on hating her voice, and most Glindas have used a very similar voice for the character. Kristin put a stamp on the role that most actresses have followed over the years. I think Ariana sounds great. She also adores the character and I really think she’s going to do a wonderful job with the role.
Ariana seems to be honoring the role, interjecting herself in small bits, while Cynthia knows she has to make it her own, you cannot copy Idina or honor, she has to make Elphaba her own character in the context and with her acting and you can see in the trailer she knows this.. The trailer looks good and while this trailer mostly shows Ariana, Cynthia's performance looks to be building up to the Anger the character has for the world around her and I am here for it. I just pray it's good!
i don't think idina menzel made something with elphaba that screams "ELPHABA" whereas kristin chenoweth really put a staple on GLINDA. she made a character that is so recognizable, every other interpretation can be compared to hers.
I love the face you made throughout. You can tell you care about the content. I’ve never seen Wicked but the reactions to this trailer have been so good, I’m looking forward to it.

I just rewatched the Wizard of Oz and the actress for Glinda has this high-pitched, almost nasally Transatlantic accent so I think Ariana’s voice is kind of fitting. I’m sure 10 minutes into the movie, people will be used to it. Can’t wait!
@WatchwithMarcella i have only seen it and Moulin Rouge (recently) and a handful of smaller productions: Midsummer, Stranger Things musical comedy, Auntie Mame, and Fly Away Home (at a local theater I volunteer at). Later this week I am seeing Beetlejuice in Chicago though.
New subscriber here. Great reaction! I also want to be seeing this on the first day. And just an FYI. Her name is Cynthia ERIVO. There’s a “V” in there….so it’s pronounced “E-REEV-O” Instead of “E-REE-O”….
i don't know - I still have a hard time making out some of her lyrics. don't get me wrong, I love her and think she is amazing, but she mumbles. A lot. lol.
Sounds like you just don’t like Ariana. You said for her to sing clearly which isn’t very Ariana and then complained that she wasn’t being Ariana 👀 Ariana looks great with this part! You probably just don’t like her.
That’s not it at all. I actually really like her. I just don’t 💯 enjoy the way she sings. I’ve enjoyed her since victorious and she didn’t sing that way on Victorious. It’s just one little thing. It’s not going to stop me from seeing or enjoying the movie. 🤷🏽♀️

I did see an article about how much she loves it, so I’m hoping she will. I am still very excited!
Yup, Ariana will bring Glinda to life and make "her" her own
Sorry to disappoint you, but she didn't have any say in what was included and what wasn't.
