as for history , Lebanon is even older than Egypt , and it is the only country around the globe which borders were mentioned in the old testament in the judges :) .. Lebanon was never part of Syria , because simply Lebanon is older than Syria .. and Sikes Picot returned to Lebanon the four districts that Ottomans Splitted from Lebanon to join them to Damascus ( not Syria ) in order to weaken the Lebanese resistance :)
btw , when you read history you will notice that the relation between Lebanon and Syria was tense and full of battles since 834 BC .. because of syrians' greed about Lebanon ..

Yes, in the case of Asmahan she left for Egypt from Syria at the age of 3 years old. You really cannot consider her Syrian - she is considered to be much more Egyptian since she lived most of her life in Egypt. Egypt remain to be the BEST Country in the Middle-East for music, movies, theaters. Egyptian culture as a whole is extremely sophisticated than any other Middle-East countries.
