David Lindley's fiddle solo is so fittingly haunting to this song. RIP Mr. Dave.

@@XmanSully I'm 73 with no musical aptitude at all. I think the song by the Velvet Underground 'Heroin' is candidate for the most honest song ever written. Have a nice day.

@@hermenutic friend, I just now admitted I was high as a kite when I wrote that, hence the "I am so great" attitude. Kind of embarrassing to read now. It's just that this song carries a tone of memories of my youth. Life seemed great then. Not so much nowadays

    The sheep's in the meadow
    The cow's in the corn
Now is the time for a child to be born
    He'll laugh at the moon
    And cry for the sun
    And if it's a boy he'll carry a gun
Sang the crow on the cradle
And if it should be that this baby's a girl
Never you mind if her hair doesn't curl
    With rings on her fingers
    And bells on her toes
And a bomber above her wherever she goes
Sang the crow on the cradle
    The crow on the cradle
    The black and the white
Somebody's baby is born for a fight
    The crow on the cradle
    The white and the black
Somebody's baby is not coming back
Sang the crow on the cradle
Your mother and father will sweat and they'll slave
To build you a coffin and dig you a grave
Hush-a-bye little one, never you weep
For we've got a toy that can put you to sleep
Sang the crow on the cradle
Bring me my gun, and I'll shoot that bird dead
That's what your mother and father once said
The crow on the cradle, what can we do
Ah, this is a thing that I'll leave up to you
Sang the crow on the cradle
Sang the crow on the cradle

This song was not written by Jackson, but leave it to him to find some of the best songs ever that should be played and recorded. In terms of this performance, it wouldn’t have been the same but for David Lindley. How he complements Jackson !

Jackson Browne tends to be quite underrated. And that's a shame, because he actually wrote a great song in The Crow On The Cradle.

    • @marytolhurst5165

Hmmm. He didn't write it, but this is a superb arrangement. Sidney Carter wrote it. (English pacifist and no relation to the Carter-Cash family). He also wrote Lord of the Dance.

Not quite..written in 1960s I think, but based on an English folk song / tune 'Bonny at Morn'.

JESUS you thunder LORD from sea to shining sea the waves rose up against me the storm of this life Jesus the undertoe pulled as the salt water burned my eyes the fog set in all my cuts and bruises a wounded soul was I all of my strength left me I had no desire to survive a life full of failures I made my own bed.I left heaven so long ago my mind can't think tears flood my thoughts in sorry I sink . LORD I think back to where I knew that you knew You took me in when there was no friend no one knew me a stranger in a strange land. The sand was slipping out from under my bare feet the rip tide had it's way with me.Jesus no one did miss or know I was gone they talk with their friends on the beach LORD something helped me to keep walking the waters were over my head how did I know to hold my breath I walked up from under the sea waves no knew that I had been with you my friend .O my trembling soul up in your presence one day I know it's all true.

JESUS I see the right side up upside down in everything now that I have been awakened to the true light and the love of the knowledge of the truth that your angel of the church of Philadelphia has by your Spirit revealed unto us .
It's O.K. babies children mothers and daughters and sons angels lambs sheep weep old men one day the good LORD willing you shall stand up and walk and remember which way is up as the cloud of witnesses now weep.

Jesus soon you will appear the true light -darkness is getting darker with the stars losing their light
Jesus your angels sheep trapped in these host bodies of sin .
We listened to the serpent disguise himself as you
We as your angels fell so long ago we took on flesh host bodies so we could sin
to see how it feels- to have the tree of the knowledge or good and evil living on the inside .
Jesus you gave us free will or it wouldn't be love so you give us the truth.
