I've been using mine as an everyday sofabed for my dorm. When sleeping on it you can definitely feel the wooden frame with my weight (75kg or 165lbs). But it's really comfy with a memory foam mattress on top. By using the mattress, it is suitable for everyday use but it does take a little motivation to make your bed everyday again.

A little tip: most times you can just remove the pillows, put a topper if you have one, and just put a sheet over it and a pillow and you have a bed for 1 person. Or just leave it as a bed

This sofa sleeper has been our guest bed each and every time we’ve had overnight stays with our grandkids. It is firm, and comfortable and the kids jump all over it each morning upon waking ( while we are still sleeping on it! So I think it’s a genius design and holds up to lots of child friendly wear and tear.
We now want to purchase one for our vacation home, for our guests!!

My last apartment came semi-furnished with one of these. I was able to fit a lot of stuff in the storage area which was great because the apt didn't have much closet space. And even though it is on the firm side, it was quite comfortable particularly with the "bed" area opened up. It was great for just chilling and watching tv, even with a friend.

Awesome review! I totally agree about the sinking. We have two kids and catch them jumping on the sofa from time to time. We've had it for a year it's really a noticeable difference between the sofa and the ottoman. We bought a thin mattress pad that goes in the storage underneath the chaise for sleeping.

If you have guests that plan on sleeping on this for more than a couple of days, I would definitely recommend putting some kind of foam topper on this - in my opinion it is hard as a rock! I was staying with a friend for about a week on this thing and my back got very sore. However, a cheapie foam topper from Costco or something would be a perfect solution, which you could even store in the chaise compartment.

Nice to have an honest, detailed, review where the presenter is *not* carrying on in near hysteria. That sofa has everything I’ve ever said I wanted in a sofa and I’ve I’ve checked so many websites and go in person to the shops when I can go looking for one and most had no idea what I was asking out.
Thank you for the info, all round good presentation. Edit - “asking out”. Originally, just a typo. But now I think well, I’m clearly going to end up sleeping FrIheten so it’s only fair I take them out sometimes.

We have had this for about three years and love it. Purchase the two inch topper in the bed and mattress department and store it in the chase. Slept on it many times always found it comfortable and I’m a big guy. Has held up well. I do agree the cushions do loose firmness over time.

I like how you’ve positioned it sectioning off the living room and kitchen with the chaise lounge, as the ikea pic shows the positioning on the other side. This blocks off the window view so I changed it when assembling yesterday.

Nice video review. Very Helpful as I just bought this sofa for our basement man cave for lounging and the occasional overnight guests. One thing to mention for others is that IKEA is now selling a foam mattress with a washable zippered cover that can be used when the bed is in use and then stored away when it is not needed. The cover is about $80 and you could probably find one cheaper elsewhere. I have also sprayed scotch guard over the entire fabric on the sofa so hopefully that will help with any future spills.

I've had this sofa for about 3 years. I have a 3&4 yr old who jump on it a lot. You can remove the pillow covers, and I wash and dry in the washer and dryer on a regular setting. Also, the main sitting part of the couch does get really saggy really fast and it is uncomfortable to lay across that cushion and the chase. The chase is always really comfy and does not get saggy because it has a flat board under it. I have thought about modding the couch with a board under the main cushion. I have had it professionally cleaned by an upholstery/carpet cleaner. Worked like a charm. I don't like how pilly the fabric gets very soon after buying (I have the same fabric as this video), and the fabric is loose. We have the ottoman alway up because we just like it that way, the couch always fits everyone. The kids have jumped on it and it still goes up and down just amazingly. The storage is great, but if you let your kids eat any snacks on the couch expect it to fall down into the storage. The couch is super heavy! All in all it's an amazing couch. Very durable. We have moved it 5 times! Even with the drawbacks, this couch is so worth it if you need storage, an extra sleep option, or just a big couch for the whole fam to sit together for movie night! I suggest getting a nice memory foam mattress topper and queen sheets if you want to use it as a sleeper. Nice vid!

Thank you for this! I was looking to buy this as a sofa/sleeper for the basement. The basement is my office space, and it's more to A)look nice during youtube videos B) be a place for guests to sleep on the rare crash over at our place. I think for that it's probably good, since it won't be getting as much wear as quickly to sag too fast.

Very good review! I have had one a few years and like how firm it is as a bed. Tip is to put the pillows on the opposite side (where David had his feet). The wood frames going across for the storage unit can be felt if you are a bit heavy and lay like David did. If you put the pillows in the other end, that wood frame is where your legs are and you wont notice it.

I’ve had this sofa since July 25/20 and paid $900.00 Cdn at IKEA. Took it home in a pickup truck just my wife and me. Love the couch! This is an extremely accurate review. We have ours in the recroom and it’s ideal to watch TV from. You’ll want cushions behind your back, as the seat is quite deep (great for the bed, though) the frame is definitely uncomfortable if you’re the unlucky one to be seated there, also there is a steel brace half way along the seat that is a killer too! So it’s not perfect, but suits us just fine!

Why is it a problem in the long run? I just bought a Norsburg sofa and it was pretty soft in the showroom but is really firm at my house. It's still more comfortable than my older, softer (Pottery Barn) sofa, though. Somehow it ends up being more supportive, I sink in less and so my legs don't fall asleep as much. But why is the firmness an issue in the long run?

Love your review. Thanks for sharing it. I've had the sofa for about six months now. I do love it, but as you stated there now is a bit of a sag to it. The dip gets to you if you're watching a three hr movie. I find sitting on the seam between the connection of the L and the I shaped portions my sweet spot away from the sag. Although the sag bites as the majority of the sofa's use is in sofa mode vs. bed mode, I do love the hidden storage and how easy it is to convert into a bed. It's quite the trade off for the price. Thanks again for the review!

I don't think I've ever watched a furniture review before and am amused at how informative this was! You literally answered all of my questions - thank you!
But you also raised another question I am hoping you or another owner can answer: it was clearly uncomfortable when you sat atop the area where the chaise portion butts up to the sofa portion (just foam on wood). Will there be a section like this if I am going with the sofa-only model? I'm thinking no, but perhaps midway for support due to the longer length of the sofa? Thank you!

  • @MP_pov
    @MP_pov 4 года назад +5

I've had mine for nearly 3 years, it's my main bed living in a studio. I use a thick mattress topper with it. For an adult when it's looked after it's fine but if you have kids they will destroy this sofa very quickly. It's not perfect but in this time I tried sofa beds at twice the price and they are all hit and miss. Yes the foam goes soft with time but it's not bad. You have to sleep the correct way around ie not with your head near the arm res / what would be a natural head board, that's what the manual recommends. I tend to sleep on the pull out side, the cushion is a bit firmer and it means I don't sleep on the side that gets used for sitting during the day. Sleeping down the middle is not comfortable. I looked at changing it a couple of times but in this price range there isn't anything thats obviously better. I'd need to spend 3 times the price of this sofa.

Great review! we're thinking about this particular sleeper in our downstairs guest room. I've read a few of the comments regarding comfort, a quick solution may be to add a memory foam mattress that you can get from Bed Bath&Beyond and place on top only when sleeping...store in the closet or possibly into the storage chaise until needed.

What jetski Dex said! I always wonder what's going on with Ikea sofas, because when somebody is trying to sell it on Craigslist, and says it's in good condition, it always looks wrinkly and saggy. I'm disappointed that either the foam or springs don't hold up and the fabric gives. How old was yours when you reviewed it? I've been looking around for a trundle bed for a small room.

I bought this exact sofa early last year. My cat's have used the sides as a scratcher!! The sofa, bed, and all cushions are still good. I prefer softer material for a sofa but this it what my kids and I chose. It's fine. I am currently looking for a sofa cover. For me the sofa is a bit too firm. And sitting on it is not so great. I find it more comfortable to watch TV with the bed out and I really like the storage! From 1 to 10, I give it an 8 😊

I bought an earlier version of this sofa* when I refitted my son's room around the time he turned 13 yo.
He's 19 yo now; the sofa has held up really well, though the current version sells for an even lower price than I paid, I think, so I don't know if more corners were cut (the current fabric is definitely cheaper feeling).
Admittedly the sofa is more often a surface to dump his clean laundry on than for seating, but teenage boys aren't gentle with furniture ;-). It's been a good occasional guest bed (almost Queen sized) for one or two adult sized people. Fitted sheets don't fit because the three cushions that make up the sleeping surface don't have sides & 4 corners like conventional mattresses - use a flat sheet for the bottom sheet. . When configured as a bed, I place a double size quilted mattress pad (cut off the thin stretchy fabric sides that usually hug the mattress sides and corners) on the sleeping surface before placing a flat sheet down to help reduce the chance of feeling the seams between the different cushions. A 1 to 3 inch mattress topper would be even better if the bed function is used more than occasionally or for several nights in a row.
*brushed cotton twill fabric in a taupe color, with raised arm sides rather than flush sides

I have it for two years, it's a good sofa, and would be perfect if the cover is replaceable or cleanable.

Just one little advice: when you convert the sofa into a sofa bed, try to lay down in the opposite side you're showing in this video...that's actually what the manual shows, also!

Yeah this. Putting the shoulder into the storage end and legs over the hardwood gap is way better. It's a bit strange since there's no head board then.

    • @CiggyBitch
      @CiggyBitch 3 года назад

You know what, that obviously makes sense! I'm all dumb cuz when I saw product photos, they out the pillows on the end without the storage and all I was thinking was the pillow are gonna fall off without that edge acting as a headboars.. It looks like it should be on the other side but it makes sense with here the wooden framing is 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

So I have to ask, 2 years later, how is it holding up? Looking to buy a sleeper sofa for my apartment and I'm looking at this, but the reviews are such a mix bag on Ikea.
Also , on a side creative not, I really appreciate the time and energy you put into make this video engaging to watch. It looks fantastic.

I have this sofa and I have the orange color. I’ve had it for 3 years and I can tell you I had to hand clean this sofa 2 times a year and use a steam cleaner to get the water out. I have two children in there 20’s who crash on my sofa when they party too much or too lazy to drive home and it’s holding up quite well. It’s just a pain to have to wash out the stains.

It's a great sofa, I had one for many years but I'd say you missed the main issue with it. Cleaning under it is difficult as it's in so many pieces, and moving the sofa can cause the rolling section underneath to disconnect and then it's quite annoying to reconnect... Be prepared to deal with that a couple of times a year

Finally a basic but good review. Very nice job Mr. Zhang. Not a review where the reviewer is talking too much (sharing their opinion but without giving any good reasons of why) and showing the basic functions only. If you can do it properly in 4:00 why use 15 minutes people?
