I understand that Chechnya is a Russian republic, a member of the Russian federation. It is therefore not surprising that Chechen soldiers should be fighting in the Russian army. - There are no North Korean soldiers fighting in Kursk or in the Donbass. As for Chinese soldiers, we are in fantasy land.
Europe did never need oil or gas from Russia. We decided to buy from them in 1973 to help them to develop, in hope of getting along better. Well, the plan did not work out - so we will stop that.
Russian gas is much better value than US LNG. Replacing the dependence on Russia with a dependence on the US will make Europe's industry less competitive.
Russian gas is very bad value because it is used to pay for thugs and their weapons whose objective is to undermine Europe. Much cheaper for Europe if those thugs can't be afforded.

I'm a Ukrainian American from Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Mahlay is modest (as are most Ukrainians). He is also the head conductor of the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus. It was always an honor and privilege to attend their concerts and have a small group of them perform on Christmas at my grandparents house
I believe the Interim Syrian Administration has asked Russia to pay for reparations concerning the devastation caused by their air force in Syria and for the extradition of Assad. What is more important to Russia? The protection of a failed allay, money for reparations or their bases in Syria. Russia are going to lose their naval base and airfield in Syria is the answer
Great work as ever, really appreciate your podcasts, listen every day but as my usual provider is not working watching on RUclips and able to comment. Please keep up the fantastic work.
Russia has other neighbours with border disputes and territory it will have to protect (including with China and Japan who want their land back). So it seems reasonable to assume Russia needs to dedicate some heavy metal to those challenges? Or do we think they’d place all their chips on a win in Ukraine?
I was glad to hear in your report that the oil seaport of Ust-Luga was hit. I hope they can also hit the port in Primorsk. If Russia can't pump the crude oil then they can't sell it. I saw DPRK war materials arriving by train so I wish Ukraine would take out a rail bridge to stop that.
As usual Putin's pathetic manoeuvres will back fire. He is in real trouble now. The economy is creaking and social unreast is increasing. A commenter said that there's a big market there now for red caps. Not sure if that can be believed but then I remembered the Prigozhin march and I thought maybe it's a case of the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Not impossible, looks like they have been in this situation for almost 3 years... 😄I bet this time we are getting close to the realization of the argument
Re. imports of russian gas to EU, here's a simple idea: set EU-wide trade tariff at 500% on all energy imports from russia (including both piped and LNG gas), all of which goes directly to the national budget of Ukraine. Now if someone wants these imports removed from sanctions that can be discussed, but tariffs will remain, meaning that for every €1 going to russia (from which russia still needs to cover its costs), €5 will go to Ukraine. This also means that the price of russian gas won't be competitive within the EU, thus ensuring investment into alternative sources of energy.
Problematic because of the political influence it gave Russia over German politics, the German economy, and how it impacted Germany's foreign policy, all very negatively. Had Germany a greatly varied energy market where Russia was only a bit player, there's a good probability that Putin would not have been emboldened to agress upon Ukraine.
Ukraine DID win long ago. That tiny country that doesn't even have a Navy or Airforce has haulted Russia in its tracks, taken Russian land, and won both air and sea supremacy. The fact that Ukraine stands means that Russia has lost. Period.
Without even bothering listening to it, how many Russians a month are they now claiming being lost? They said it was 40k for Janurary before the month had ended, so I presume the numbers could be 50k a month they are claiming. With the 40k claim that would mean 4 frontline Russians divisions lost each month They have been making the claim of 40k Russian loose a month for well over a year, So the claim is at least over 50 Russian divisions lost in a year. In the US army approximately 10% of the army are combat soldiers the rest in support, which highlights the utter absurdity of these figures. There would be no Russian combat soldiers left, the Russian army would have been finished long ago, but they still come out with these ridiculous lies and some believe them.
According to UK "experts" and "specialists", Russia is fighting with shovels since 2023. Anyway, Romanian presidential candidate Calin Georgescu (so popular that EU tried to ban him from running for presidency): "The world is changing. Borders will change. Moreover - if the borders change, where will we be? We have Northern Bukovina (currently Ukraine) - interesting. We have Budjak (currently in Ukraine), we have Northern Maramures (currently Ukraine) - right? From the former... what was it called... Transcarpathia! There are also Hungarians... Lviv, which will remain with the Poles, and Malorossiya. One hundred percent, that's how it will be. Well, they have no other way! The road to something like that is inevitable. Ukraine is a fictitious state. It is the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic".
There are independence voices growing, but slowly. These social processes take time and we shouldn't speed them up forcefully. Otherwise there wouldn't be enough basis for unity and any created state would collapse. Speaking very much from experience of my country. It took 100 years of intense National Revival, and then the country was ready to become a fully fledged, educated democracy.
@martavdz4972 There is no independence movement in Siberia. The Western NGOs were all kicked out. It is. Western wet dream to take Siberia, but that wont happen.
So, Russia can use North Korean, Chinese (recently seen), Chechen and whatever else they can muster, but Putin insists that Ukraine fights alone?
It's the West insist that Ukraine fights alone. Putin and Russian citizens knew since 2014 that NATO uses Ukrainian meat to fight Russia.
World Cold War 1

Enjoyed interesting topic about support for combat medics and hospitals on the front. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦
do not give up supllies and support to ukrainians.
I must say, U:TL has really stepped up the thumbnail game. It does make it a lot easier to distinguish new episodes. Keep up the improvements.
Wanted to write the same 🙂
agreed! nice work team
Thanks for highlighting an American podcast ❤

Too bad we have to listen to Trumpy Dumpty's intro words every time we tune in
Why?
Desperation by Russia
Russia has other neighbours with border disputes and territory it will have to protect (including with China and Japan who want their land back). So it seems reasonable to assume Russia needs to dedicate some heavy metal to those challenges? Or do we think they’d place all their chips on a win in Ukraine?

16:00 Bravo, Francis ! !
A change of tone? Well done.
I felt ashamed by Trump;s funding pause.
He's determined to snatch defeat from victory
A policy promise that Americans voted for... yeah. That's the shame.

Bankrupt the EU? Oh, good idea.
Again the meat assault comment. Has there been any video evidence yet? Been waiting for three years now.
Francis why was the e u's dependence on russian oil a disaster?

What Dom meant to say was that Israel was sending the Patriot missiles they were going to destroy because they were so old to ukraine.
Ukrain would easily win if they had trained their youths from the very beginning. They would not have shortages of soldiers to fight.
