  • In this edition of Entre Nous, we take a look at how British people feel about Brexit, five years after the UK officially left the EU. We also discuss the challenges many Brits abroad now face, particularly those with second homes. Finally, we get to the bottom of the many reasons why Europeans are choosing not to make trips to the UK, but the Brits are still coming to Europe.

    As an EU citizen I believe UK should stay out of EU because "great times" to be out of EU are coming - tariffs from US, economic wars, wars etc (I am being sarcastic, in case it is not obvious). Having a zero GDP growth more or less, and increasing debt-to-GDP in the last 5 years, in given condition is great especially when you trying to deal with US (27T GDP), China and EU 17T. UK at 3T GDP alone, is in the 2nd economic league and it should manage its expectation based on it. The only country I believe should ask for independence and ask to join EU asap is Scotland. It would be great to have Scotland in EU once again.

      "Englands love of right wing grifters" - as an EU citizen, this is in no way confined to England. The far right is gaining popular support across all major nations in the EU, where they are, in cases, even poised take power in coalitions. Fanatics on both sides need to touch grass

      And half of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 would still vote against independence so your empathy is with less than 50% of the country. Even if they leave the UK 🇬🇧 and join the EU 🇪🇺 they would have half a nation arguing it's not what they want, a lot of Scots 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 also favour independence but that's it no joining anything. UK betrayed us Europeans by leaving the Union that even THEY contributed to create.
    While it is a thing we can easily forgive, I think it would be opportune first if they show a bit of regret for such decision and a bit of consideration for us Europeans.
    If you have a bunch of allies you don't backstab them when it's more convenient for you. You stay and play with the team.
    Here the problem is not economically or political, it's a matter of values, morals and respect.
    If they do that and shows us a bit of respect, then they can join back and receive all the help they need to recover. We would be glad to help them in any way possible.
    But first they must show they have matured.

      ahaha you forgot GDP PPP in international dollars, the most precise to compare between countries with different populations and currencies, lets have the same amount of potatoes or products for all countries; france surpassed UK, EU too (Eurozone, is even higher) and Italy, Spain and Poland coming fast right in the corner. So the wide margin since Brexit only worsetet for UK

    • @distinctga5811

      @@GodSpeed24z PPP is not "the most precise to compare between countries" GDP is the primary metric used as it is a more accurate measurement of a nations overall production. Regardless, in terms of PPP the UK's growth rate outperformed Germany and France since Brexit.

    • @GodSpeed24z
      @GodSpeed24z 6 дней назад

      @@distinctga5811 GDP comparisons using PPP are arguably more useful than those using nominal GDP when assessing the domestic market of a state because PPP takes into account the relative cost of local goods, services and inflation rates of the country, rather than using international market exchange rates, which may distort the real differences in per capita income.
