    Why do you say to not write to your scratch SSD? You gotta put your project and videos and so on on there some how right? Like ifbi came home, Plugged in my card reader and put the videos straight to my "scratch" editing M.2 SSD. Would it still edit fine? I think it should, And then when i am fone with the video transfer those files to a HDD

    Hi there. Great video! I have a M1 Mac book pro with 3 thunderbolt 4 (USB C) ports. For editing remotely I have a Samsung 2TB T7 and it has worked fine with 2-3 streams of 4k (not pro res but 4k 30 or 60 sometimes but nothing as heavy as pro res- mp4 from Sony FX30/FX3)...but sometimes it struggles a bit-have to reduce playback quality etc and now I want to buy a new one and I would like more speed...I cannot use the new Samsung T9 or Crucial X10pro because macs cannot use the dual channel USB-C (I can't explain this-I just read about it) so the only real option to get the most out of my mac (and the same with all macs even the M1/2/3s) is to get a thunderbolt 3/4 SSD and so I came across your video where you talk about the sandisk Pro G40 with more than double the speed of my current Samsung T7...this sounds great! Finally a SSD that takes advantage of the Thunderbolt 3/4 mythical speeds! but I have to wonder...will I see a real world difference if I were to get the Pro G40 compared to my T7 (I'm also considering a Crucial X9 pro)? I do video for a living but I don't use/own cameras with the heaviest codecs etc...I would hate to overspend on a SSD if I won't see real world differences...have you ever compared the editing speed of the Pro G40 vs Samsung T7 or a crucial X9 pro? I used to own a sandisk Extreme and I found it that it overheated while editing...It got really hot and I didnt trust it. Samsung T7 doesnt over heat. I hope to hear back from you! Thanks...

      Why don't you transcode to prores if you don't want to lose playback quality?

    Wish the heat of the problems nvme's came up in laptop build. Any chance you could do a video on A SCAR 18 video editing/DAW build on the Asus Scar 18 using the Gentech PC Websight on what options you would go with. With or without raid on the laptop setup etc. They offer quite a few options on a build for those who a forced to not be able to have a official desktop setup.... Its one of the cooler running/ somewhat bottleneck free laptops with raw power.

    Excellent breakdown. I needed to know if I should go Thunderbolt 4 on an external nvme, or if 10gb USB was enough. I'm gonna save the $100 and go USB 3.2. I can always upgrade the enclosure if I find myself editing a 6 Multicam 4k prores 444 project lmao. I usually only do a max of 4 cam 422 h264/h265.
    Thank you, subbed :)

    I'd like to buy Samsung 990 2TB, 2 of them for 4TB for my Aero Gigabyte 17 inch laptop, I can see there's two slots. I currently have 512GB storage and always running low on storage. How do I know if it's compatible with my laptop? I do see one labeled NVMe, and another one labeled NVMe/SATA. It's my first time upgrading so I'm worried if my laptop rejects the storage then I'll have to return them. I've opened it in the past to clean out the dust from the fans. My concern is if my laptop can accept 4TB of storage, or if it's too much and instead get 2 1TB for 2TB of storage.

    Thanks for the info. I have a Lenovo T 7 Tower with 1 gen 4 nvme slot.I have a 1tb Samsung ssd drive (c) drive with my programs in it and a 2nd nvme slot but its only gen3. I just found this out after buying a 4tb Samsung 990 pro. I am only getting like 3500 mgs read/write out of the gen 3 slot and could get 7000mg read/write in the gen 4 slot. . Should I make my gen3 slot my boot drive with 1tb drive and my programs and put the 4tb samsung 990pro in the gen 4 nvme slot or just keep it in the gen 3 and use at lower speeds?

    Nice video! Quick question, for maximum speed do we need to install adobe software and also store the footage on the fastest ssd? Or just the footages?

    You must be rich to be able to afford all those wonderful toys. Odd how things change so fast. And have gotten so expensive. I built my computer but now it is considered old. i5 with 64 ram and 2 TB counting the 500 Gig NVMe and a XFX 580 Graphics card This new stuff does a hell of a job, but it is complicated. I am thinking there must be a lot of people out there like me that have to do with what they have. We may not be professionals but trying to make something entertaining or what ever. Still we are looking for the best bang for the buck.

    @digiprotips brother in here you mentioned the benefit of running things off your external and your system running off the internal , for smooth flow and little latency . Is that true even when you have much faster internals now?
    say for hypothetical . you have a external that has speeds of 800 max
    and a internal thats hitting 2500.
    would you still opt to run things off the external in this case?
    would that be faster than having everything on your internal

    • @DigiProTips
      @DigiProTips  Год назад

      Hey mattduncan5500, it all depends on how many internal drives you have/can afford. Always go with the fastest speeds you can but the important thing is splitting your system from your media storage.

      @@DigiProTips well anyone on mac who is on the move , only has an option of one internal.
      as of now i have a slower External.
      and a faster internal.
      i will update my Ex, but theoretically i wonder what would be fastest or best in the current setup . even when i update i dont have TH3 or usb3 so ill be limited to USB A speeds. not what they are gonna be even with the fastest enclosure i can find.

      It’s all a balance. You need to assess based on your particular set up. With that set up I’d go with using your internal for media and external as a scratch/cache disk/preview disk.

    What's the best NAS combo? All SSD or HDD+NVME?

    • @DigiProTips
      @DigiProTips  Год назад +1

      Hey Kieron, it kind of depends on what you need to do with the media on the NAS and the budget you have.
      If you want blazing fast storage and have budget to get it then all SSD but also bear in mind that SSDs can’t hold as much data as HDDs.
      If you don’t need the most amount of speed or don’t have big budgets then HDDs are best. Adding NVMe for an SSD cache can be beneficial but only if you work from the same media a lot. You’d be better having the NVMes as a separate storage pool for fast access to that specific data.
      Hope that helps?
