Mercury has taken market share and is the No.1 outboard globally. The new Pro XS a bullet proof motors with amazing hole shot and incredible mid range torque.
Verado 300 has an Advanced MidSection (AMS) design while the 300 FourStroke has Conventional MidSection (CMS) Basic CMS is older style mid section and AMS is newer mid section designed for little more control at high speeds. I don’t have any comparison but its the same 2 stroke vs 4 stroke debate. 4 stroke gets better gas and lighter. 2 stroke is proven tough over many years. Here a video of Chase testing out the Mercury 300. ruclips.net/video/fGSeaTBAjG8/видео.html. He was topping out around 65mph. Full Tournament loaded boat data: 250HP get to about 54-56mph, 300HP gets to about 56-58mph, 350HP get about 59-62mph and the big 400HP gets about 61-65mph.
28 transom height. But we like to use powrtran.com/ on our boats to make custom ride. Good for low water areas, or boat launch areas. Also smoother rides, faster hole shot. Just lots of more adjustments
@@ThenextbiteTvShow i got a 20x6 with 20 transom first boat ever idk what to get for my first outboard motor just yet maybe yamaha 115 sho only cuz my dads 2009 yamaha 90 4 stroke ftlr has sunk exactly 4 times and still runs
lol. goal is to keep the motor off the lake floor. We have been running mercury's in the pro field for a long time now. We have very little issues and if we do have an issue mercury has certified tech all over the USA. Finding a good boat tech who can get straight to the point is always nice. More time on the water less time in the shop.
I've always been confused as to why still water boats need such high horsepower engines. I've been fishing offshore Bluewater since I was 5 years old back in the 60's. My last boat a 21 foot mini game boat that ran a 2004 model Merc 140 HP, 2.4 litre, V6, 2 stroke and the boat's dry weight was around 1200kgs. Never ever needed more power than that provided and there was no way in hell you could run W.O.T. on open water - you would beat the boat to pieces along with yourself.
Rob, small 1 mile wide lake you would not need a big engine. Unless your fishing a tournament on that small lake. You and every local knows about the huge car size boulder in middle of lake that only one boat can fish on. Do you want to be the big engine who gets there first or little engine who can't get to that spot first.. Thats kinda were big motors starts for some fresh water guys. BUT also we got Great Lakes that are HUGE with monster waves at times. We also in the midwest have several river that can run for 20-50 miles between locks and dams. Plus some big 20 mile wide lakes and reservoir that are up to 30 miles wide. Add some 4 to 9 foot rolling wave in the mix and your going to want that horse power to cruise the top of the waves.
@@ThenextbiteTvShow Hey. Thanks for your reply. I understand the fishing comp concept - the guys over here say the same thing. I know of your lakes. I lived in Milwaukee for 6 months and my wife is from N.E. Ohio. Fishing off the Continental Shelf down here in Oz is around 60 km round trip and I'm really close to it - it can be a lot further for others, plus we get killer Southerly winds with good 6 - 9 meters swell. Not a great way to come home when you've been out chasing yellow fin all day. Add to that the numerous bar crossings we have to put up with.-Even with the huge suck you get with bar crossing and strong reef currents when fishing close to the rocks in open water - never ever needed that much horsepower. That's not to say it wouldn't have been nice to have. When Shark Cats first hit the market down here - the 23 footers were only running twin 150's and that was considered a very heavily powered boat. The cost of these engines in Australia make them mostly unafordable to the blokes that would really use them for what they were designed for, plus we have a huge Aluminium boat market - much more so than glass boats, so the high horse power factor is not needed as much. Take it easy. Cheers
It's extremely important when moneys on the line. Fishing in tournaments being the fastest can get you on small structure that only 1 boat can fit on. Such as small sunken island, hot water wash out port from factory in river system, Big car size bolder in middle of the lake. Some of these small structure area can hold big fish and big fish win tournaments. For non-tournament anglers, Hole speed will get your boat plane faster so you ride is smoother.

Why not the R version ?
If you get that in silver is it called silverado
😆
thanks for this. But what is the 300 V8 XL CMS engine? any feedback on it ? thanks

I love Mercury engines..
What’s top speed on the zv21 with the 250hp?
Thinking of getting a zv with a 300 so just wondering

How long are the transoms on these boat i got a 20 transom where the motor mounts

is verado 300 quieter on low rpm than susuki 300 ?
I am not sure as none of the guys on the show run a susuki.

Did Merc build a 140 V6? I thought they built a 135 and a 150.
@@melrose9252 the 140 was the tower of power 6cyl. From the 70s and 80s
He's probably talking about the 135 v6 I'd guess.
@@melrose9252 they built a carburetted 140 yes, the 135 through to 250 optimax were either EFI or dfi
The difference? The v8 looks SOOO much better
What about fuel economy?
From what we have seen on the water. The new V8's get roughly about 25% MPG more then older models.
So are the V8 more efficient than the supercharged 6 cyls? I mean will a 350hp V8 consume less than the old 350hp 6 cyl?
@@noiztrauma yes. Like most engines as of this decade, they are increasing power and fuel economy at the same time.
U think one of those can fit in a Miata?
Not sure. But I have seen a smart car tow a 8x8 trailer. So I seen crazier things.
Good engine Short & long
What’s so important about a hole shot on a fishing boat? The fish will still be there.

Whats the difference, you never said.
Keith said the new v8 get you more torque. Torque used for better hole shots. Basically more pistons moving get you faster get up and go speed.
