I absolutely appreciate Piets interpretation of this piece. It was brilliant... If you listen to the words in English as he sings, you can see that he stayed true to the intent of the song... To me, it is not a song to showcase belting, but rather an extremely dark, sensitive and emotional piece. Piet performed it artistically and beautifully. If you watch some of his other videos, even some of his from when he was very young, it is very apparent that this is not a fake. He sings the most difficult songs effortlessly and his tone is vibrant whether it is very low or very high. His highest whistle tones are pleasantly resonant ...Amazing instrument... I wish him luck and I hope one day he has the recognition that he deserves.
I loved it how through the first part of the song all you heard about was comparison to Dimash and then all of a sudden ... Around 7:17 ...Dimash was forgotten. Piet Arion made the song his own and he was absolutely amazing. The purity of his voice is phenomenal. I hope he doesn't give up on his singing career because of lack of support and funds like some of the more privileged have like the dimash family. Piet has such a unique gift - what a waste that would be. Piet has hit those incredibly low and high notes many times in videos going back as far as 12 years. He has a natural talent which is very rare and has evolved into a stunning performing artist. You can't compare Piet and dimash ir would be like comparing apples and oranges. Both are incredible in their own ways.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he from Austria. Actually... French is not as native tongue. I understand he's somewhat of a perfectionist and learned French in order to sing SOS with beautiful French pronunciation. He did very well... He also studied the Filipino language so that he could sing Morissette's Akin Da Na Lang... Absolutely beautiful version.... I would love to hear him sing it with Morissette, it would be magic. You can detect his German accent mostly when he sings in English,; like with Oh holy Night... It's awesome. What a talented young man!
They have a video that actually compares side by side Dimash and Piet singing SOS... Very very interesting... It actually shows what a fantastic job Piet actually does technically in every way. Damash did an amazing job as far as showmanship and Of course his extreme choreography. . But in it's simplicity and artistry I believe Piets interpretation was a masterpiece as far as conveying the appropriate feelings and emotions for this dark piece. His learning French for this piece really paid off... The delicacy, the mixed voice and a strong finish was stunning. He seems to put a lot of effort creating emotion and artistry in his work.
For that last whistle tone run, he went to the famous E6 that we hear in DImash's rendition and blew right past it: E6, G#6, C#7, E7, F#7, B7 so he went more than an octave above Dimash's cover

Dimash version is only a cover (but yes what a cover, and he made the song globally famous). "SOS d'un terrien en détresse" is a masterpiece composed by Michel Berger, a french singer/composer/songwriter legend, for a famous 70s musical called Starmania. This musical has other classic songs from Michel Berger covered later by the greatests such as Celine Dion, Lara Fabian, Cindy Lauper, ... In the musical, "SOS" was initially sung by Daniel Balavoine. He is a giant of the french music and composed/Wrote many other masterpieces himself after his breakthrough in this musical. But the version that attracted Dimash to cover it is from a young Star Academy France contestant called Gregory Lemarchal. Gregory made a splendid cover and won the contest (in 2004). The most amazing: he was suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, which impacted his breath capacity and made the simple fact of singing very painful. But he was living his dream and you could never tell he had such problems, alway smiling and delivering perfect pitches. Gregory won the contest, released 2 amazing albums, topped the charts, had amazing concerts in France and 3 years later he was dead. He is still considered the little angel of french music. I recommend you to listen to songs from these 3 legends: Michel Berger, Daniel Balavoine and Grégory Lemarchal.
One thing I have to point out is that Piet articulates every word. If you pay attention to Dimash singing this, he repeats "Si jamais c'était plus beau" which is easier to enunciate than "je pas tiret un bon numero". If you want to see more of Piet he has his own songs out now. If you want to see more of his covers I'd suggest his version of No Time to Die.
This is to the trolls in the comment section. Didn't think Dimash fans would become so toxic... Yes Dimash is a vocal monster and is impressive no matter what, but why put Piet down to glorify Dimash? Dimash himself wouldn't want that!!! Piet is really talented, and what he does is something nobody can do better than him, so stop putting him down y'all!!! And bro nice reaction
I’m so happy he doesn’t do it the way Dimash does. He has a beautiful voice! Piet did the video 4 years ago. There’s another guy out there doing songs just like Dimash but he can’t reach those high notes with grace. Piet Arion is doing his own thing! 😊
Happy New Year, brother! I hope 2023 is much better for you! This was nowhere near Dimash's version for me, but there were moments, and those high notes were crazy!
If some of the viewers here doubt Piet Arions talent or range have them watch his version of Morissette's Akin Da Na Lang... A duet between those two would be magic.
Piet's French pronunciation is native, unlike Dimash's. Dimash makes some mistakes, but not those typical of native English speakers. Dimash is the superior vocalist, but Piet's vocal abilities are clearly well beyond what most even great singers have. I really like Piet's performance here.
He is somewhat of a perfectionist. Besides studying French so that he could sing SOS, convincingly and beautifully, he also learned Filipino so that he could sing Morissette's Akin Da Na Lang beautifully. His native German accent shines through when he sings in English... So cool.

Not you saying Dimash did it in full Chest both mixed ,dimash's mix is just more balanced and sounds chesty ,that was an F#5 even sopranos mix to hit that nite controlled without sounding as yelling or flat, talk less of a tenor I've seen many people confusing that beforee even as a tenor your notes in the UPPER fourth octave to C5 are not fulll chest but are chest dominant for the trained ones even in classical .TRYING to pull full chest above passagio causes strains that's why you always get into that high placement with heavy compression but not full chest that's impossible you might think you're in full chest but it's not

He has other videos especially from even 12 years ago that show that he's fully capable of the highest of whistle tones and purity and resonance... He is really a master at the whistle tone. His version of Mariah Carey's O Holy Night... His whistle-tone seems to come effortlessly... A true gift.
This performance is a complete fake, it's electronically manipulated with the whistle notes provided by a synthesizer. That's why unlike Dimash, he can't repeat this "live."
