I would love to see this movie re-released world wide, maybe as a result of the comic this is based on getting released world wide. I think it actually deserves it as Valhalla is an excellent comic or comics (there is more then one volume) and the movie isn´t half bad. So i would say re-release it maybe clean it up a bit and i would think that it could make an excellent return to the market.
Did you know that Nordisk FIlm actually had it digitally remastered in HD and stuff? I watched it at the European FIlm College in Ebeltoft this way last year But according to Peter Madsen they are refusing to release that version. :(
Lukas Sprehn, Well thats not exactly true. Nordisk Film _have made_ the new version accessible for people to see but only by streaming the movie online. They probably decided to do it that way 'cus it's cheaper than to release it on a dvd. Since you have seen it, maybe you can say if this is the new version? It sure looks great ; ) ruclips.net/video/VfMWoC5qifI/видео.html
Both yes and no. I remember watching it as a kid and enjoying it, and it is described as a family movie. The movie is based on a series of comics, that have parts that certainly weren't targeted kids, and is quite enjoyable. The little guy with weird teeth though is a typical example of the kind of character that kids like that make the movie very comedic at times, and so it might be leaning towards the audience of kids a little more that the original comics. It's been a while since I watched to, so I'm not sure how much however.
Because when I was looking at an image gallery of this movie, I saw an image of a woman's nips sticking through her shirt. So I just wanna make that sure that there's no nudity or sexual content in this movie before I see it.
The Marvel version of Thor actually looks like the Valhalla version of Heimdal - the god who watches over the Rainbow bridge Bifrost, from the Sky Mountain(?)(Himmelbjerget). I guess Marvel's Thor is inspired by Valhalla's Heimdal?
Rubywing4 Marvel's Thor predates Peter Madsen's Valhalla. Peter Madsen even payed homage to The Mighty Thor by making references to "the Warriors Three" in the third volume.
Just checked up on it and I can se that marvels Thor predates The Nordic Valhalla version by ten years. I still wish they had kept The Univers based in the Nordic Valhalla univers, still maybe its for the best since it wont hurt to much when they change Marvel Thor into a girl, if the rumors are correct.
kenneth83DK Except the Marvel version of Thor were made before this cartoon. Marvel Thor was created in the 60s, this depiction of Thor is from the 80s.
Strange, that the movie can be watched in English, yet I have not seen any English version of the comic...Hmm... This series is one of those things that makes me feel proud to be Danish!:D The comic is awesome! I haven't watched the movie yet, but I think it's gonna be awesome too!:D Loke is my favorite character of the series!:D:D
@@insaincaldo Maybe it will with the live action adaptation coming out next year (2019). Otherwise there's fan translations online, and they are really good!
I disagree. I don't know, if the guys at that animation studio (which I've visitted many times as an intern) had international fundings during the production of Valhalla, but first of all, that specific film was based upon a Danish comic book by an artist named Peter Madsen. Secondly, I happen to know, that Denmark is a very productive country, when it comes to animated features. To say, we don't produce animation at all is just wrong
@officialvangcreative not. I know my country (netherlands) had some animation productions that where only in dutch.. Sure it won't happen often and maybe it does not happen at all anymore, but it did happen. And a quick google search confirmed it, Valhalla is Danish
@@TheOpinionater Sure, I didn't mean to say they were lazy, like at all. And I don't think one can make the "less is more" argument either. Still, can't help but feel weird watching this movement of the characters.
As someone who did not watch this growing up, I will say it isn't that good (not saying it's bad). My main issue is that it is just a compounding of two norse myths, some non-canon stuff and this is compounded by the trailer making it seem like a whimsical adventure (plus looking like it needs to have a voiceover). I'm not shitting on this at all, I get nostalgia and the love it can instill. I can't bring myself to hate the 1998 Tristar Godzilla film for that reason. Still, the animation and voicework are good and it is nice to give minor characters like Røskva and Tjalfe some character.
+Rasmus Jørgensen What's wrong with that for English audiences? Thor's an Anglo-Saxon god too. Wouldn't mind it in French or German myself -- especially as one of the German voices, Thor's I think, is Christopher Lee.
Nothing "wrong" per say, its just because I have seen this so many times and know it completelyy by heart so to hear it like this feels weird. And you are correct about Christopher Lee (He is Odin as well)
The original version is the Danish one, it was released in Denmark in 1986 and 1987 in the U.S. It even says on the wiki "The film was translated into other languages including English and German." So no, the English version is not the original one.
I worked on Valhalla so I know that the dialog scenes were animated to the english words only. The Danish dub version came after/second. So Valhalla was original done in English first.
1:19 "A true warrior knows when not to use it." That quote is brilliant!
Brings back memories from my childhood, and I didnt even know it was dubbed in English.
