      @Belladonna Noir OK I'll say the movie is good, but stop acting surprised of a Disney movie for talking mature thing because despite of so many Disney classics hawing dead parents it doesn't make it any less serious, but I do understand that sometimes people resonate with the deadbeat dad scenario more. Disney always covered mature subject-matter in their movies but most of them we're parents forbidden or what we seen we didn't get.(check out a video titled Walt vs Disney:"artist vs technology"it give me a whole new respect for Walt's work and simplistic visual story telling.) in my opinion Disney vase the kind of company anyone should aspire to be, able whimsical fun and harsh reality without being coy about it.

      It's on my underrated list. My top 10 are more in the likes of classics. Overall, Mojo's list is good. Eventhough I would've put Aristocats and Dinosaur, and some of the honrable mentions, way higher. I would've also included that Picsou movie, with the genie. It was fun.

      Some people don't know that Disney made The Rescuers or The Fox and the Hound either. Just because Disney animation wasn't the same quality in the 70s and 80s as it was before doesn't mean that it wasn't still good. Most of Disney's material between Walt's death and The Little Mermaid was actually quite good, but because critics didn't like them, they have largely been forgotten. (In fairness, the subliminal topless woman scene in The Rescuers was a big factor in why that film is so unpopular as well.)
      And let's not forget that Disney animation was starting to decline even in Walt's lifetime. The Sword in the Stone was Disney's second to last animated feature made BEFORE Walt died (The Jungle Book was the last). I suspect it had something to do with the decision to replace hand-inked cels with xerography. Sleeping Beauty was mostly hand inked, but they tested Xeroxing on the dragon, and starting with 101 Dalmatians Disney began using xerography exclusively. (I suspect this was in part a cost-cutting decision, and the crew generally didn't like it--while xerography is cool in that you can clearly see pencil outlines, it often has a rough and scratchy look, while hand inking allowed for more colored outlines that looked much smoother on screen.)

    • @hotwax9376

      Oh, and the decision to focus more on live action films probably had a lot to do with it as well.

      Patrick Shields Your opinion. A poor attempt at a civilized one, but an opinion nonetheless.
      Just like the Sherlock movies with RDJ, it was a fun movie with some quirky moments and got dark when it needed to be.

    • @jessus1026
      @jessus1026 8 лет назад +3

      Patrick Shields Uh dude, have you even read ANY of the Sherlock Holmes books? Because Basil is a real good personification of him.
      This is what the movie is- a take on the book series: Basil is the arrogant, selfish ass who will do whatever he needs to in order to find the truth (Sherlock) and Ratigan is a smart, charming, vindictive psychopath (ie Professor Moriarty the criminal mastermind/archenemy of Holmes from the books).
      If you're going to dispute something, at least research it.
      Edit: Fuck you for saying that about Vincent Price. You truly no nothing about his impact on the film industry

      +Damian Charleston Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie when I was a kid (it was my all time favorite until Aladdin and the Lion King came out). But I just didn't see it as the "100% perfect"; Disney movie everyone else claimed it to be.
      So, while the movie was good and I still enjoy it to this day, the -rabid-fans ruined it by overpraising it so much that any other Disney movie that came after it would be treated like dirt and "not as good as the greatest classic Disney film 'Beauty and the Beast'";to them (and belittle anyone else who doesn't praise Beauty and the Beast the same way)--these comments were even also made by some popular youtube reviewers who made fun of flaws in other Disney movies BESIDES Beauty and the Beast (which they claim has zero flaws--even when it does).
      So, maybe to me it wasn't so much as overrated but overpraised--or something along those lines.

      After the death of Walt, Disney started to move away from his ideals because $$$. They cut the budget on animation in favour of live action and did some really bad changes.
      For example there was this stupid idea that colouring eyes with white was too expensive so they would paint them in the skin colour, just look at the first "the Rescuers". One of the animators, Don Bluth, was so angered by this that he bought his own equipment to prove that it was just some weird misconception the studio executives had about animation, and he was told to fall in line and do as they say.
      They eventually came back to making proper eyes, but there was more. They ordered the animators to keep the shading on characters very basic to cut costs. They forced a minimum number of songs even if it wouldn't fit with the movie. They would impose drastic last minute changes to the story, requiring entire sequences to be reanimated and often harming the movie in the process. As far as tFatH goes, all of this can be seen here: the basic shading, the forced songs ("elimination" lol) and the changes (Chief is confirmed to have died in the original script and they even had his funeral scene animated, that's why everyone acts as if he died and he rarely appears after the train scene).
      The removal of Chiefs death was like a trigger pull. Many Disney employees called it what it was, a sabotage of their work. They argued that the movie doesn't work if Chief lives because it takes away all the motivation Copper has to hate Tod, but nobody would listen. In an instant some of Disney's best animators, lead by Don Bluth, left Disney to create "Don Bluth" animation studios, the only company to ever rival Disney. Their first full-length movie, "the secret of NIMH", had about half the budget of tFatH, yet it looks as if it was the other way around.
      Their animation quality surpassed Disneys by a landslide, and NIMH continues to be considered one of the best animated movies ever made.
      Unfortunately, they had some bad, bad luck and that's the main reason why today Disney is still in buisness while Don Bluth was closed down.
      Yet, the direct competition from Don Bluth forced Disney to re-think it's approach and that's how the Disney Renaissance begun.

      I have never read Oliver Twist despite being a major reader. But what I love most about Oliver and Company is that it’s the one animated Disney movie where cats and dogs are both represented and are actually friends. I loved that when I was little because I have always had a cat or two and a dog at the same time. I liked that it didn’t force me to pick between the two like having to choose between 101 Dalmatians and Aristocats had done to me.

      It was a Steampunk movie. It was original. No dystopia, no apocalyptic future, no gloomy, or anything like that now. Neither princesses nor evildoers who sing. He had funny points and his idea was also born from literature. The father's relationship with Jim. It was galactic steampunk.

It lost at the cinema when Disney made the mistake (again) of letting Pixar release Brave in the same year, and then lost again at the Oscars to one of Disney's weakest and most unoriginal films ever (i.e. Frozen). Atlantis, Tangled and Pocahontas are criminally underrated! Unfortunately for Pocahontas it was because a ton of people expected a documentary, but I’m part Native American myself and honestly this is one I watch every year. Its undoubtedly in my top 3. I don’t care how the story differs, Pocahontas and John Smith are the one of the best couples EVER and the fact they’re the only couple that had to say goodbye is just heartbreaking and makes me so mad we never got an ACTUAL sequel to their romance!

      +anime fan The problem is, do people still talk about it? Think hard on that. What was the next Disney film after Wreck it Ralph. I will give you a hint: It involves ice and a song people still won't stop singing. The overshadowing of Frozen just destroyed Wreck it Ralph. And honestly, I think it is by far the most overrated Disney film in the last several years, if not for its entire history.

    • @StephySon
      @StephySon 8 лет назад +3

      +saxdude01 I don't think of it as overrated nearly as much as it was constantly shoved in everyone's face until people got sick of it. The fact that its a Disney film that blossomed in the social media age didn't help either. If u look at it by itself, take away the hype and the hate and the arguing and the overplayed Let It Go and its a solid Disney Film, it just suffered the fate of any poplar song on the radio, even if u liked it before its been played way too much to ever be enjoyed again.
      Me personally I thought it was okay, (I am actually partial to Tangled myself) but I enjoyed it. I hope its a world in Kingdom Hearts III and I'll probably see the sequel when it comes out. But I'm not raving over it.
      Ralph was special to me though, I just hope if they get a sequel that they travel to different types of video games cause they spent waaaaaay too much time in the Candy racing world.

    • @saxdude01
      @saxdude01 8 лет назад +2

    The Aristocats honestly should get more fame than 101 Dalmatians should. Not to be rude, but we are talking about the last film Walt touched. Not a lot of people give it the credit it should have gotten. They did cancel the sequel in 2008 sadly but the live action comes out in a year so I’m hyped.

    • @LeToplache007
      @LeToplache007 6 лет назад +7

      There was a sequel canceled? Boy fuck Disney then. I agree that it does deserve more recognition but not more than 101 Dalmatians. Aristocats did have a good story, but not nearly as good as 101. That story put a total twist on me when I was a kid because I didn't expect so much action from a cartoon that old. If Aristocats had a bit more interesting story then yes. Right now I can't say that I could say it was better. But I see what you mean.

    Can you do an overrated Disney list
    1. Cars, because there are 5 freaking movies in the Cars franchise. (Cars 1-3, Planes, and Planes: Fire and Rescue).
    2. Frozen, it's just an okay movie with a really obnoxious marketing team.
    3. The Little Mermaid, some weird messages if you think about why she sold her soul. (legs, and a vagina for man she doesn't know.)

      +Paul Rippcord (Waffles) Ariel didn't sell her soul. She sold her voice, because with it it would have been too easy for her to tell Eric who she was. She also doesn't sell it just to be with Eric. She expresses a desire to be part of the human world before she even meets him. The song 'Part of your world' clearly shows you that.

    Here's a list of some other Disney movies that also deserves more recognition (including Pixar films):
    - A Bug's Life
    - Bolt
    - Brave
    - Make Mine Music
    - Peter Pan In Return To Never Land (this is one of the only Disney sequels that is actually amazing in my opinion)
    - Ratatouille (not a lot of people seem to talk about this movie anymore)
    - Tarzan
    - The Fox And The Hound
    - The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (this is their best animated film in my opinion)
    I haven't seen the other package films from the 40's yet, but i *think* most of them are pretty good if i already like Make Mine Music

    Great Mouse Detective is easily one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. The only movie that MAYBE beats it out is Hunchback of Notre Dame.
    And I love Atlantis, don't get me wrong, but that movie is kind of a hot mess. Primarily the fact that the main conflict of the story is based on the premise that somehow an entire civilization just... forgot how to read their own language. Not "lost the knowledge through the generations", because they're all functionally immortal (see: Kida's dad, Not Spock, who is alive during the sinking and is still alive and ruling thousands of years later when they find the city). Just... they forgot how to read. If you look at the writing credits, there's like, six or seven people credited, which is likely how it ended up so messy.
    Treasure Planet is also an incredible movie, though, and while most of the rest I can see slipping under the radar, I never understood why Treasure Planet got ignored so hard.

      did you know that The Great Mouse Detective SAVED Disney, it had boasted them out of the Dark Ages and brought them into the renaissance, Disney had taken the money they got from The Great Mouse Detective and made The Little Mermaid, which then created the renaissance. so yeah, an UNDERRATED FILM saved Disney and basically made all the movies we now love, such as, Sleeping Beauty, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast, and The Lion King. THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE SAYS YOU'RE WELCOME DISNEY!!!!
