I pulled the feet off because they were cracked, One was missing and I ordered new ones. You are correct that they didn't need to come off . I bought the original Honda pull cord from the dealer, but yes a shorter one would work well. 6 To 12 inches might be hard on my back.

Number 1, you do not need to pull off the feet. I saw 54" for the recoil rope I think 6 to 12 inches more would be better.
