I love how people complain about a couple of seconds long ad but then they refuse to pay for content.
the only (ONLY) justification for complaining about an ad is if the subscriber already has youtube red. Having youtube red subscription means that the creator gets a cut for every video watched by that subscriber, regardless of ad time or placement. Even still, it's entirely skippable, only takes 10 seconds, and the stuff Matt is selling is usually pretty decent. It's not like regular youtube ads which can be incredibly obnoxious, have horrible volume leveling, and often can't be skipped - exactly why I have a red subscription.
I love when people say that as is if youtube was ever monetary based subscriptions.

nah the complaints on the ads are pretty legit. There is plenty of great content on RUclips that doesn't try to force feed you ads every single video.
you should be able to click to watch whatever video you want without being deceived into watching or being sold random shit. You have to be able to recognize that and say no to it.

People who use ad blockers is on a rise and that negates conventional monetization methods of youtube. So it is up to the content creator to supplement that lost revenue from people using ad blockers with unskippable ads put directly into their content. There is nothing wrong with it as long as it is a quality content creator such as TheSmokingTire is.
Matt always mentions heel toeing. I always laughed at the heel toe concept..... until I got a manual and started practicing heal toeing every day before/after work merging onto the highway.
So people may give me cap for this, but watching these one-takes and seeing all the unique and odd builds people have done have made me decide I want to build my HHR. And when I do, I want to bring it out for Matt to drive

I have admired Fatory FIVE Racing for years. Great guys and great cars.
The car looks like it's fun to drive and the motor sounds lovely. These guys appear to have done a good job of putting the car together but the ergonomics inside looks to be a little off and the hood looks like it is loose.
I really loved the way the 818 hardtop looked from the first time I saw the kit more than a year ago, and I'm glad to finally see a real review of one.
As for the gas pedal in this...I wonder if it's drive by wire. I had to modify the gas pedal placement in my Fiesta ST so that I could heel-to-toe downshift it, but now it's great (just went to Hocking Hills this weekend and did a bunch of driving and hiking).
I'm in love with the direct sound of the turbo. You just know the powers coming when you hear it.

Apart from the steering wheel it looks amazing for a kit car :) Does look a bit flimsy looking at the flopping bonnet.
I'd bet throwing some deadener on that fiberglass might help reduce the flexing, but it's also a track-toy kit-car, so I can also understand why it hasn't been done. Either way, the car looked incredibly solid.

That A pillar is super wide.
Keep in mind it's not a unibody, the panels are just cosmetic, laying over the frame and connected in a dozen or two spots.
The hood just needs a support added (I have an 818S, roadster) Mines only 240HP at the wheels and 1900 lbs 8lbs/hp at the wheels

For a car like this, I would have loved to see the owner do the driving with Matt riding shotgun. The car is probably dialed in to his preferences and driving style, so he can really show how it all comes together. Maybe he likes the pedal box the way it is!

The turbo seemed sized really well, it was always there and built boost fairly fast. Made some great noises and I'm not a boxer motor guy really, but the turbo kind of softened that drone I hear in them. Be a lot of fun to drive I'm sure.

@@hughjassstudios9688 Ez is a couple inches longer than an ej25. In my wagon it is literally 1 inch from the radiator. It is very crammed in.

This is one hell of a platform. I'm extremely intrigued by this car/company now.
I've loved the look of this kit ever since they corrected the headlights and added the hard top. That total invested price is out of control though. I was hoping it could be built reasonably for closer to $30k (painted). Plus, to me, it would be a track car so things like pedal placement for heel-toe'ing would be very important. Probably twin master cylinders and a brake bias adjustment.
I like coffee. Is it real coffee or instant shit. And do they ship to the UK. On another note I love kit cars, they are just the best no compromises.

Kuddlesworth NA this is whole bean small batch roast stuff. You have to grind it for yourself. This is the highest end coffee available on the market, on par with Groundwork, Angel City, Blue Bottle, that kind of stuff. pricey but worth it. Not sure on UK Shipping sorry

The 818 is one of the best looking "kit cars" I've ever seen, BUT the way that hood flaps in the wind like a piece of Tupperware is a deal breaker for me. I would have to bond a small piece of aluminum box tube under the back edge or something.

40 - 60 is hardly disappointing -- this isn't a street car, it's a street capable track day car that could easily hang with or outrun a Porsche 911 Turbo S. Hell, with the larger rear spoiler and canards, it could probably outrun a 911 GT3. Tell me literally any other car in the 40k - 60k price range that could get anywhere close to that.

Thanks Matt for that great review. I agree on all fronts as well. I actually built one of the first 818s that FFR put out and I did it electric with your pals Mike and Matt at EV West The car went to SEMA, Laguna Seca, and even Adams Motorsport park for some reviews and testing. Eventually it was sold to the city of Shanghai to kick off an electric sports car project that never got off the ground. As a package, the 818 is basically a big go kart with a gel coat body. Strap a decent motor to it and you've got a serious, solid-works designed car that can compete with a boxster for about 20-25K. While some would say, "Well, then why not just buy an old Boxter?" Two reasons: Building it is half the fun, and Porsche service can be pricey. :) The car itself tracks like a cat on a velcro floor though and I enjoyed my time with it. A fun project for any intermediate wrench with little to no fabrication.
I've been waiting for Matt to review one of these, super dope. I always thought at $15k, they'd be a good alternative to an Exocet or something, but hearing that he's paying Cayman prices for a really good one with awkward ergonomics makes this a hard sell. 718's start at $55k and M2's start at $52k. "40 to 65" sounds nuts to me, especially considering that you have to build and tune it yourself, but I also get that that's part of the appeal to a lot of buyers.
Seems like you could get 14-15" brakes, a procharged EZ30 engine w/6 speed manual, roll cage, custom pedal box, steering column, and instrument panel, as well as the interior and 818R suspension, chassis, and aero kit from FF for $60k including the donor car and fresh paint. This could be a competitive alternative to something like a Lotus Evora. With 10k in the wheels and tires as well as everything else these cars would outpace a car 2-3x as expensive. At least on paper.

For a kit car, would rather get a Hawk HF with an Alfa Romeo GTA 3.7 V6. More power, much better sound, better looks no question. But hey the Factor 5 is a cool car that is unique for sure. Must be an absolute weapon on the track.

Its too bad Factory Five didn't build this car with the ability to have the newer all wheel drive system, 6 speed gearbox and engine in it.
That would all have added to the price. Also it would add weight and also remove part of the idea of a mid engine club racer car. The idea of this is to be close to the original Porsche 914-6, a car YOU drive, not one that takes a lot of the control away with tech. As for the 6 speed, likely it's not hard to put in if you have one. This is a sub 2000 pound car, it doesn't need 400+ HP and a bunch of other crap, it's made as a raw driver.
So how do coffee beans get roasted? By making fun of their sense of style and taste! 😂

So shit they use it in all their vehicles, and Toyota even uses it in their FRS...
Dalton v the frs/brz uses a different engine. The EJ is a good engine, it's just a little bit of a money pit once pass 350-400whp.
It uses a different engine the same way the Hyundai Genesis Coupe doesn't use a Mitsu 4G
+Art Vandelay If you want to see that check out the channel "Boostedboiz" They have a boosted h22 in a ek9 hatch body and a few boosted wago's that's not running at the moment and recently he put a k20a in a mr2 that is about to get boosted.
When they first announced it I was thinking the same thing. I think they chose it for the transmission's ability to act as a trans-axle not for the engine itself. It's so light if they had used a normal FWD drivetrane the weight would be pretty far back. Also, there aren't very many afforidble FWD turbo engine/trans combos out there.
I would've picked the turbo 4 out of the PT Cruiser / SRT-4 my self, or any of the FWD DSM's.

I just finished an exocet and looking at the 818. Car doesn't look registered. Needs a wiper. Probably not considered a 60's replica, so all current BAR stuff (emissions) must be kept. Complicates the process. (Exocet is registered as a 1960 Lotus 7). Much more "normal car" than mine. Also 4x the cost. Fantastic build though. Building your own car is a great experience, Cost is not the point. It's about the challenge and satisfaction. The kit looks very complete and I'm sure was a blast to build. Awesome job!!!!
I built my 818S with 240 RWHP for just over $20K, includes oak veneer interior, custom shifter w bellcrank, custome hood and engine louvers, aluminum trunk, heated leather Recaros, custom wiper, aluminum inner fenders, CF mirrors, aero side pieces, splitter, diffuser and trunk spoiler, padded vinyl interior. 8lbs/RWHP

Secondly, my audience is about 70% car enthusiasts and 30% random people searching car videos for random reasons. However, it is 98.7% male. So, if an advertiser wanted to get the most for their money, they are better off coming to us with male-focused products than they are with car-focused products. This is just very simple math. So while I understand your position from your personal point of view, a) you do not speak for everyone else, and b) the information on which you've made your case is wrong. Sorry.
