Nice video man! I like using those slick jigs also but I usually put a slider and have good success with that a foot above it for the finicky biters! Hope to make it over there from la crosse at some point this winter.
Thanks for watching! I've fished with slider hooks before, but I'm kinda split on how I feel about em. I might rig one up again just to mix things up. But we should be in for a solid ice season out there this year. Good luck if/when you do get out! Tight lines!
@ yea a disadvantage of the slider is it sometimes gets caught on the hole if they bite the lower jig too. I’ve had that happen. I’ve got a sleeper shack planned up there end of February! Hoping to catch a Burbot through the ice along with whitefish 🤞
@@JacksonBaumgartOutdoors burbot and whiteys would be a BLAST man! And you hit the nail on the head for sure with the slider hooking the hole. Nothing quite as disheartening as losing a whitefish from the Itty bitty slider hook catching the bottom of the ice 😅😭
nice video!! you can get a mesh bag for a livewell net. then you can drill a hole and put the bag in the hole with the whitefish alive. Tie a stick on top to cross the hole so the fish cant pull the bag underwater. I personally keep my fish alive in water until the minute before they're filleted.
That's a pretty neat idea! I've seen a lot of guys will actually auger out a little livewell in the ice several inches deep and big enough to hold a bunch of fish. I like to keep all my fish in a bucket of water until fillet time (except summer time, then they are going in a cooler of ice), but whitefish is the only fish I do not do that with though... Or big pike over 24". Those guys get tossed in some snow. Usually, I don't have any issues, except this day 😅 Thanks for watching!
@@SolelyOutdoors sounds like you have a good plan keeping fish on water or ice depending on the conditions. I love the old bucket of water with fish in it in summer. Just have to change the water out every hour so there's enough oxygen for them. And when you change the water on the bucket, be sure not to dump out any of the fish or let them jump out! ahaha
@@clarkpiper6007 hopefully you're not speaking from experience on accidentally dumping fish out or having them jump out! 😅😅😅 Also a helpful thing I have learned over the years... When counting the fish in your bucket, be sure to count the number of fish you take OUT of the bucket, and then count the number of fish you put back IN the bucket. You wanna make sure those 2 numbers match, cuz if they don't, either your count was off, or you have a random fish flopping around somewhere. 😂😂😂

Where did you launch from?
This was on the East shore. Out by Point Comfort. Gotta be carefull out there, lots of working cracks to pick your way through the shoves.
Are you using the Meegs?
Using the closest jig to a Meegs. Lindy Slick jigs.
@ nice, I fish in Ontario on simcoe and Meegs are very popular here.
