- Aretha Franklin Say a Little Prayer Reaction
1. Much more soul than the Dionne Warwick version
2. The echo with the background singers is interesting. I'm not sure if I like it or not.
3.Very different than the Dionne Warwick version if you critically listen to it

Aretha's record track is more polished and splits the difference between this live performance and Dionne's version. Worth a listen even w/out reviewing. Less rawness and greater calculated effect, as a studio version would/should have. She's still the queen, though.
I like the Dionne Warwick version best. Having said that, nobody sang like Aretha. She added so much to anything she did. Check out her performance of Nessun Dorma on the 1998 Grammy awards. She got called in the last minute to do the song and she KILLED it! Amazing, amazing lady.
Great reaction! I’ve never heard Aretha’s version. As much as I love Dionne, no one can compare to Aretha, the Queen of Soul. Her voice is so fantastic, it brought tears to my eyes, what a legend. The contribution black people have made to art is unmeasurable
For years, I only knew Dionne's original version. One day, in a compilation CD called The Woman In Me, I heard Aretha's version which opened the album and I was simply blown away. The piano-driven arrangement and her soulful, bravura vocals backed by The Sweet Inspirations truly defined the song which Aretha made her own.
as i mentioned previously both versions are stunning , usually happens when song is so good. For me Aretha's has more to it and thats about it
This live version is different from the record version. This live version lives something. I think you'd like "Angel" by Aretha, her vocals are otherworldly -- just stunningly beautiful.
Awww shucky ducky! Tha song!🎤🎼
Need to listen to the album version
What's interesting is that Ms. Warwick and Ms. Franklin had the same backup singers for this. Led by Dionne cousin and the mother of Whitney Houston, Cissy Houston.
Cissy Houston is Dionne Warwick's aunt. Lee Warrick and Cissy Houston are sisters.
This performance is much different from Aretha’s recorded version. Make no mistake about it, this is the best and most heart-wrenching live performance of this song EVER!!!
I love Aretha`s voice and though I do like this version , I prefer the music and background vocals of Aretha`s original studio recording and for me it`s on a higher level than Dionne Warwick`s original studio recording......I did like Dionne`s version too.
I tend to favor the very first version of most songs I hear. Even if another one is better.
@@jaybrielakoi7747 , Yes some people do favor the very first version of a song they hear ... I normally do as well except when it comes to Aretha . I also liked Whitney Houston`s version of `I`ll always love You` better than Dolly Parton`s original version.
She has a beautiful voice.
This live version isn't the same as the studio-recorded version.
Can you react to Mariah Carey Melt Away? it contains all 5 of her octaves and it’s really fascinating to hear the different textures and techniques she composes. Along with her lovely song writing.
I like Aretha's studio version better than Dionne's, although Dionne's is excellent too. I like this live version less. But their fans at the time would have known every note of the studio versions, so I think hearing a live version without that knowledge puts you at a disadvantage.
Love Aretha but I love Dionne's version of this song better!
I much prefer the studio version, this one just seems off. Aretha doesn't seem to be in sync with the rhythm and there's too much screaming. This version seems screech to me. Do your self a favor and listen to the studio version.
I much prefer Dionne's version to the "Screamin' Aretha" version.
Dionne's version is far superior imo.
