I'm not going to beat you up on chainsaw safety because not only do you know better but because you actually put it in the video to actually teach others about the safety that needs to be taken and that it can happen to anyone. You do a great job on being honest about what you do and I can't fault a man that does that. Awesome video Mike!

good on you for not trying to hide the error. every one of us that operates saws/equipment/plows/etc has made errors. most of us not on video so would be "easy" to hide it if we wanted. but its always better to own up and learn and, in your case, TEACH about it. well done sir.

I can give you 2 incidents I’ve had with chainsaws, one time was when I worked for our DCNR in Pa we were out cutting brush clearing an old trail and as I was cutting the chain hit another limb and came back and hit my leg granted I was in all my gear but it is an eerie feeling when a saw comes back across your leg and the chaps do their job. The second incident I wasn’t as lucky I was cutting wood at my house and I was cutting the top log from the pile ( kinda one handed ) and before I could get my other hand up to grab the handle it kicked off the next log and came back twords my face but it bit me a little bit on the hand requiring a few stitches in my hand lucky that day also, I honestly think what saved my face besides my hand was that the saw wasn’t running at full speed when it kicked back, Like you said saw safety is no joke...I’m pretty sure any logger out there knows the same feeling and have much worse stories than mine...but like you said Mike it can happen that fast...Be safe everyone running saws....

You may not have had your PPE but the saws safety devices would have made a difference with that kick. Back when I was 13 or 14 (40 years ago 😱) I was with my Dad cutting firewood from a bush lot that had been logged so it was just tree tops left. The same kick happened to my Dad without the benefit of a chain brake guard being that they didn’t exist and the chain came up between his index and middle finger. Luckily it was only stitches that he needed.
I still remember him complaining after wrapping his hand in a rag and driving himself to the hospital that the needle being used for the stitches seemed duller than some 3 1/2” spikes he’s jabbed his hand on over the years.
Toughest person I’ve ever known. Glad he’s still around.

I’m not sure if you’ve heard of this before or not but they have heavy duty grease gun holders that you can bolt onto anything. We bolt them to our dump trucks. Where the grease gun goes is perfect for a shovel and then they don’t fall off going down the road or when you dump. Just something to try if you’re interested.

Theres a few inches of soil. He's got a tiny Bobcat Excavator and a skidsteer. In a lot of places the rock is above the surface. Most of it is slate so we're busting it off and filling in. Where we can, we're using some of the bigger rocks in the landscape. There's slate, Schist, quartzite and granite. The rock comes out of the ground like it's growing. Hard to mow.

A little over a year ago a friend asked me to haul a 304 from our town to his new home, 25 miles away and through Custer State Park. There's an elevation change of over 2000 feet. He asked me as he only had a half ton RAM and I have a Duramax. After hooking up I tested the brakes and found they didn't work at all. Thankfully the speed limit through the park is 35 and I never went over 25. I had to bring It back a week later. That was easier as I was going up hill more than down. A couple of years ago someone rolled an excavator off it's trailer going through the park.

I've spent more time than I care to remember working on the console for hydraulics like you have. Not goo on the belly.

Hey there man. Love your vids but not the narration quality. Use a separate microphone as the audio is always drowned out by the engine noise and its hard to hear what you are describing. One option I have found works well is a small digital recorder in your pocket with a lapel mic. Very reasonable price setup. the only thing is I have to line up the audio file with the video in post production but that's easy enough with good software. Another option is a wireless mic sending narration directly to the camera - more expensive but no extra editing. believe me the narration quality is light years better. Cheers
