Thank you Sir, I have received my 2955 (30watt in) back yesterday. Only 3 of self test passed before, now all passes. I am so great full for Deon (rf engineer with 2 BSc degrees) that fixed it for me. I am back fixing cb radios again. Thanks for your video it helped a lot.
@@TonyAlbus Hi Tony, I also used to work with them around 25 years ago and that's what kept me interested. I have repaired a number of 2955s over the years as they are very serviceable. Keep up the good work I am looking forward to your up and coming videos.
Hi Tony, Just bought one of these for aligning CB Radios . I was lucky to get it with a brand new screen fitted. Just now getting to know it. Your explanation is very good Thank you
SSB ON YOUR 2955, Hi Today i got a mini-circuits SBL-1 Frequency mixer and have wired the IF out of the mixer to the AF input of the 2955 test set, and setting the test set sig gen to 0DBM output on the bnc to the LO in on the mixer and the ssb radio to the rf in on the mixer using a power tap/ attenuator so you don't overdrive the mixer, set the test set/ signal gen to the same frequency as the radio is set to,with the modulation on the signal gen switched off, you can now hear your SSB audio clear and also use the 0-scope on the test set, You don't need a test set to do this only a audio amplifier, and a signal gen, but i wanted to use my 2955 to hear my SSB signal, without switching on another radio or RX, I got this Idea from Peter TRX LAB on youtube, as he made a SSB Monitor , yes they are long videos but he is very interesting Thanks Dave 2E0DMB
@@TonyAlbus yes looking into it it is a nice project to try. I did buy a 2955 so within a week or so will have one here. This is just for my radio bench but do hope to keep it working properly.
It is a property of sticker i think, the guy in the parking lot said it was no problem, then he quickly drove off with his old BMW, it is prob. fine :)))
Hi Tony, Very interesting vidoe indeed! I have one of these sets but unfortunatly it has a lot of problms because all of the self tests fail! it also needed a replacement 10MHZ standard to even iniitiialize. I am determined to fix it though I hope that none of the problems relate to any philips hybrid devices! OM345 , etc.
Hi Mich, yes first the 10MHz, the whole system runs on it, i have even heared stories of people corrupting the memory becouse of unstable 10MHz. for the OM345 are replacemnets kits with MAR-3SM OpAmps that are also reaseneble flat in that range. i hope the 10MHz is already good for you to fix it, but just that you know its not lost if you need OM345

I had one in my shop during the infancy of AMPS cellular phones. It was a great monitor but every other tech in my region used Cushman, IFR and Motorola. The AMPS option soon went by the wayside with the onset of CDMA and TDMA digital cellular.
Yes the start of cellular.. actualy just before :) .. yes i used that too, but mostly for Taxis and Construction sites who still use Walky Talky ..but professional.. fun to work with it then 25 years ago, fun to have it now as a hobby :))

I’m sure one day Tony is going to explode with excitement live on screen LOL. Thanks Tony your happy mood is infectious

looking for a backup service monitor. how does the marconi compare to the hp 8921a?
