Those on sports or street are just younger. I outgrew my Z750 at age 34 when I went to south of Spain and rented a 400cc Xmax and fell in love with scooters.
Never looked back, got myself a 650 Burgman and now enjoy life rather than race on the streets

Great comparison Guys. Friends like you two are rare.
I've been a fan of scooters for a long time. I was shopping for a 650 Burgman in 2013 and the salesman talked me into a 1200 XTZ Tenere. I enjoy riding it cross country, but my wife (66 yo) doesn't like getting on it. So she doesn't ride it with me as much as I want her to. She has ridden several of the Big Burgmans with me that belonged to my friends, and like them. She can get on by stepping through and slide back to the back seat much easier. And the long passenger foot boards are a big plus for her.
But we are both getting a lot older and as both of us are Cancer Survivors, so she won't ride with me at all now.
I'll be 70 this Summer and still want one. I ride as much as I can, but hate to ride alone!
I want a scooter now mainly because I shattered both feet and fractured both legs in a 30' fall in 2019 and I have a very hard time mounting my Tenere now. Hard to stand on my toes and swing a leg over the saddle. Or stand on the peg and mount it Cowboy style. So I'm back in the market for a white 650 Burgman again.
I have a shop full of Motorcycles but just want something that I can get on now and have I now have no need to scream the streets anymore. Haven't ridden my Ducati since I fell. FYI, I rode a 150 cc Lambretta all through High School in the late 60's. Took a lot of teasing, but they stopped after they tried to keep up with me. But that was back in the Honda Super 90 days!
Enjoyed the video! So thanks, I guess, I want one worse than ever now. :)

Great review. I was looking at the 400, but after checking the reviews on RUclips, I decided to spend a bit more for the 650, and I love it. Ended up with a used 2016 executive model.
I had a little Chinese 150 scooter for years as my daily driver to work (5 miles from home) but I moved, sold the Chinese scoot and have been missing it ever since.
The Burgy fills my desire for something with more power and longer range. I couldn’t take the 150 on the freeway to cross rivers in MN, which limited its usefulness. None of those limits with the 650. No issues taking the bridges over Tampa Bay and keeping up with traffic.
Very happy with my purchase. Thanks for the great review that helped me take the plunge into the maxi-scoot world!

Hey Guys, really enjoyed that, thank you. I ride a Burgman, it is slightly older, very similar to Wes's scooter. Bought it 2nd hand in Johannesburg, South Africa about 8 years ago. It was featured in our local 'Bike' magazine & test ridden by those maniacs. It had less than 2000 miles on the clock. Its an amazing thing to ride. Ridden bikes for 44 years & really enjoy the practicality of this thing. I don't know if you have experienced this in the States but in S.A. i get treated far better on the road by other vehicles when i ride a scooter than a motorbike, maybe its the supposed 'Nerd' factor 🤣😂 but its real. Thanks for the great laughs, its nice to know you guys are enjoying riding Burgman's on the other side of the Atlantic as well. Take Care

I have a few different types of bikes and had a 2005 Burgy for 4 years, bought in 2009. I have always regretted selling it, as I needed the space more than the money. I understand they stopped making these about 2-3 years ago and I think I'll have to look for a late, low mileage model. I toured down from the English Midlands, down through France to southern Burgundy with my 14 year old Grandson and it was superb. So comfortable, cruising easily between 80 and 90 mph. and for the whole trip of about 1500 miles, it averaged just over 55mph. Great bike and lots of fun.

These are good machines. I own a 2009 version. It seems the differences between the two models are mainly cosmetic to do with the instrument display. Personally I think the earlier display is better. I prefer a gauge for temperature rather than just a warning light. The modifications are interesting I like the cruise control - I reckon it ought to be standard on the latest model it is after all 2019 and an electronic cruise control ought not to be difficult, expensive nor add too much weight to the machine. Traction control would also be something that ought to be considered. These are large scooters that are meant for touring not just zipping around the city on the daily commute. The top box is a good idea - extra storage is handy and being easily removable means you can use it as luggage or to carry picnic supplies. Enjoy the ride because it is the ride and where you're going not what you arrive on or how quickly you got there. Bike/scooter sports bike, cruiser, tourer it doesn't matter it only matters that you're out there enjoying the ride, the open road with the wind in your face although as you would know the adjustable screen takes care of a lot of that.

Thank you for the great review I have a goldwing 1800 and was thinking about changing to a scooter due to age and size etc . I’m apprehensive because I love the smoothness and power delivery of my 6 cylinder. But I am slowly getting excited about the change . I was wanting to go with a sliver wing but since learned they have stopped production so it’s looking like I will be going with a Suzuki.

If you can find a nice model with low mileage, the later the year the better I think you will enjoy it. It’s a very smooth machine and it’s fun to ride. The ride is a bit rougher than a motorcycle due to the smaller tires and suspension but other than that very smooth bike.

I like the comparison between the 2008 and the 2012 model. Most things are the same. I like the idea of the breakaway cruise control as you call it. I have the 2009 model and I also have a Kawasaki Voyager 1700 which has factory fitted cruise control just like a car. When you are on the open road it can be set and keep a constant speed. When you are climbing a hill and need to change gear the cruise control disengages as you use the clutch. Now because the Burgman is a CVT you have no clutch but you would manually disengage the cruise control and allow the transmission to work. Once you were back on the flat or on the freeway I would use the cruise control - it gives better fuel economy and there is less chance you will come under the notice of the local police. The palm rest is a nice idea but getting a chance to rest the right hand is good. I'm not sure about the cup holders and in any case they are on the right handle bar so how do you use them when you are riding. as you need to keep the throttle open if you don't use the cruise control. Thanks for the video.

    • @ManCaveMayhem

The 2012 model has many mechanical advantages over the previous models, many issues has been fixed within this model especially the CVT drive pulley which was upgraded to have 4 sleeves instead of two on the older models which were wearing out in some cases and causing the CVT to be maintained and can cost you about 2000$.

I started with a 400 Burgman from 1999, this year (stil have it), bought it cheap for € 700,= and well it was not real my wish I expected after 42 years driving bikes with most Honda 750's and Goldwings K1 ~ K3. Did join the Suzuki Burgman Nederland facebook group, the adviced me to take the 650 Burgman, the differences are like day and night they told me and indeed it was. I thought first, I drive at the 400 a year of 2 and when a 650 cross my path in my budget, good time to go for it. Just a month later one of that facebook group members offer his 650 Burgman of 2002, and I could buy it finaly for € 1400,= Not the most beauty one, the years and many owners colors the 650, but I'm more than satisfied of it, maded in the first month around 1000 km for lot of local trips, to discover the 650.
Yes, I still have the 400 and that will be my project to make it in a showroom condition, but also to take it with me (on a trailer behind the car) to my yearly 5 weeks afterseason holiday in Croatia, to drive there in the sunshine, we not alway's have in the Netherlands.

I put the McCruise cruise control on my Burgman 650 and that makes it handicap accessible! It works so great and takes so much "work" out of riding these scooters. If I had one complaint about my Burgman is that when you let off the gas it's like you are using a "Jake brake" on a semi! Let off the throttle and that back tire wants to stop turning as soon as possible. I have had mine for about 5 years and no issues at all.

But if you’re running around on short excursions the 400 is a great choice. No matter which one you choose they will both be good at all of that I’m just saying the bigger Scooter is smoother and more comfortable on long trips. unfortunately I bought my Burgman with them already on it. The previous owner put them on so I’m not sure. Sorry, I do believe the throttle/ right hand has a larger inside diameter. Hope this helps.

is the 2014 to 2018 650 burgman exc worth the upgrade from the older ones??? and thanks for your reviews on the scooters!!!

david cox I’m not really sure on that I think they did some changes to the plastics but I think the motor is Similar if not the same. I think they changed the engine braking a little bit In regards to when the bike is shut off and slowing down when you let off the gas.

thanks a lot for the reply!!! the 2014 to 2017 burg exc are hard to find for sale with low miles... I found a used tmax 2015 with 500 miles on odometer... the problem is the tmax tall … I am 5'7 .. I might take a chance and see if I can manage to0 ride the 530 cc tmax.. Have you ridden the new tmax??

What’s the best cruising speed on these scoots, and how does the 400 compare? Love your vids chaps👌

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  4 года назад +2

The 650s are like standard motorcycle they will cruise at 80 mph all day long. The 400 will cruise in the same range with a little more effort. Of course the 400 is a single
Cylinder compared to the 650 which is a twin. Hope this helps and thanks for watching😎

@@ManCaveMayhem How are these scooters for comfort on long rides, as compared to the large full sized motorcycles? The reason I ask is because I am thinking about getting a Burgman. I have never owned a big street bike at all, but some of my friends and family own Harleys. They say that these scooters would (Beat me up) on a long trip. They are in to horsepower and loud pipes, But Im a heavy equipment operator/and Truck driver by trade, so I get all the loud pipes and horsepower I care to get at work, and I shift enough gears at work. I want something I can glide around on and enjoy the ride.

Bill Williams they are like riding a couch especially if you get a comfortable seat for them. The rear suspension on the Suzuki Bergman 650 isn’t the greatest but it’s definitely comfortable on long rides. No shifting is wonderful. Just twist and go! Hope this helps Bill.I would suggest going and test riding one before making the purchase.
