The High 5 is to Dallas as the Katy Freeway is to Houston and the Downtown Connector is to Atlanta. Everyone who records roads in these cities have those roads featured in the videos.

I lived in Dallas in the early 1970s and Central Expressway was horrible and dangerous in the day. RUclips has some video of it from a news report back then. Our family had moved away before they did the redesign.
S. Central Expressway is TX 310 and is also known as S. M. Wright Expressway. I-45 is Julius Schepps Freeway. Central Expressway is routed across I-45 near the former JCT with US 175 to downtown Dallas where it splits into one-way streets. The opposite direction downtown is Pearl Expressway. Both one-way streets come back as a freeway right at the north end of I-345.
17:27... On either side, you can see the approaches of a 201-foot-long pedestrian/bicyclist bridge yet to be completed. They built the center section behind one of the retail strip centers, then wheeled and lifted it into place. 1)The Central Expressway between its southern terminus and the Dallas High Five Interchange with I-635 is one of the best looking urban highways if not the best. 2)All those destroyed traffic delineators from lane diving. Yikes
@Paul_inDC TXDOT has a plan to depress that transition section under ground level in the future. Not sure if they have a timetable set for construction, but there are plans. I've seen the designs and it's all going to be good.
May 26, 2023: Dallas City Council Approves TxDOT Plan for I-345 Remodel After over a decade of debate, a major thoroughfare is set to be rebuilt after a vote by City Council. The city of Dallas is moving forward with a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) plan to remodel Interstate 345. The expressway bridge dividing downtown and Deep Ellum will be torn down and rebuilt as a below-grade, six-lane trench with overpasses and a new deck park. -------- Part of the delay was due to some people advocating with doing away with that stretch of highway completely and replacing it with a street level boulevard. Not practical. "TxDOT said replacing I-345 with a boulevard would create more traffic and break the north-south connection, and the city would be on the hook for the construction costs. The removal could also cause potential civil rights violations and affect the city’s ability to get certain funding and support from the state and federal government, according to TxDOT."
If you ever in a state that has one, definitely check it out. Buc-ee’s have been expanding outside of Texas. I live in Florida. But the closes one to me is 60 miles north of where I live at.
I watched this one at 2x speed; it didn't seem all that fast to me. Perhaps most Texas drivers drive at double the posted speed. Given the distances, you have to drive "briskly" to get anywhere in a decent amount of time. I knew a guy with the City of Dallas who synchronized the lights on city streets (signed for 35mph) to be optimized for their normal 50mph traffic flow. Then I moved to San Francisco which has streets (signed for 30mph) optimized for 20mph traffic flow. Yuck.
I love how TXDOT makes their entire freeway concrete, not just the overpasses, it’s so satisfying to listen to! Awesome drive btw!
Houston and Dallas do, but Austin and San Antonio are pretty asphalt-heavy cities.
@@MarcBookPro I’m from Texas and there is some concrete between San Antonio and Austin, and the Austin Bypass is concrete as well
And 183 in Austin is as well.
I 10 in San Antonio and Houston
@@jonthegamerboy Agreed. Not saying that he's wrong
I wish I was back in Dallas like right now. Thanks for the memories.
Nicely done...and a great way to wrap up the trip too.
This highway from the Woodall-Rogers Freeway northward has aged well. Yet it's insane how much traffic it carries.
I was just looking to see if you were going to do a Dallas video day before this was uploaded haha! You deliver!
More to come!
Thanks for stopping at Buc_Eee's, I went in to see the Wall Of Jerky 🤣🤣
The world famous High Five Stack Interchange.

I noticed in parts of Plano and Allen they got rid of the median lights and replaced them with those big light towers.

Central expy was awarded for being one of the best urban highways in the country.
Well deserved. It's impressive how well it moves traffic with the population of the area.
@Mileage Mike Travels I think you happened to driving during non rush hour because normally it's backed up solid from downtown to 635

True. I drove on it in the early 1970s and the ramps were very short and difficult to use safely.

Fantastic drive Mike, really enjoyed this video. If this highway was in North Carolina it definitely would be a interstate.
Oh yeah you know it. No freeway is safe from becoming an interstate in NC.

Lol I've learned in Dallas to avoid that far left lane when possible. That's where all the craziness happens.

its just sprawl
Yo TX DOT: Y’all need to re-deck that viaduct where I-45 ends - 8:36 - that thing is patch city. Giving TX roads a bad name. Which is hard to do.
They really do need to work on that.
