They really respect 2ne1 and actually met Park Bom during their Queendom times. WheeIn has a collaboration with her, and Hwasa cried when they defeated her for first place at a music show.
There's also a little video (can't remember if it's a RUclips short) that basically points out the same thing about them giving the same vibe. I personally see it as a compliment for both.

lyrically and message-wise, mamamoo music is known to be very empowering, ill give some examples down below:
yes i am: about empowering women, being yourself
    hip: a clapback to haters
maria: a letter from hwasa to herself to tell herself she’s beautiful (she got a lot of hate for her looks)
wanna be myself: the title is kinda self explanatory 😅
taller than you: kind of a meme song about how they’re short, they diss each others heights
gogobebe: about letting loose and sort of throwing your worries away/having fun
dingga: about wanting to have fun (amidst the pandemic)
im a b: hwasas song about female empowerment, about her struggles you have to be a “bitch” to survive in a harsh industry like kpop
selfish: about not having to adjust to societal norms
egotistic: freeing yourself from a toxic relationship
be calm: a song about feeling sad and the process of getting better again
i do me: hwasas song about how she doesnt care if someone disapproves of her
no no no: about saying no to someone who treats you poorly
phew! and this is just scratching the surface
also moos, lmk if i misinterpreted anything 😅

Thanks for reacting to Mamamoo. From left to right the members are Moonbyul (rapper), Solar (leader and vocalist), Wheein (vocalist) and Hwasa (maknae and vocalist). All four members can sing, rap, dance, choreograph, write, produce and play at least one instrument. Hwasa was actually sick at the time of this performance. btw Mamamoo are bigger crackheads than Dreamcatcher.
BTOB's Changsub and Solar are best friends and both groups used to cover each others songs. Solar and Changsub also were the lead actors in last years stage musical Mata Hari.
2NE1 are highly respected by and major influences of Mamamoo. Wheein and Hwasa are Blackjacks (2NE1 fandom) and used to sing 2NE1 songs in high school. Many Blackjacks are also Moomoos because they remind us of 2NE1. Park Bom has publicly said that Mamamoo remind her of 2NE1 and even asked Wheein to collaborate on her song 4.44.
It's no secret that Hwasa loves Rihanna and Beyonce and she regularly covered their songs. You can see and hear both their influences in her singing and stage presence.
Dami raps and sounds like Moonbyul because she is a huge fan of Moonbyul. Mamamoo and Minx (Dreamcatcher) debuted in 2014 (June and September respectively). Dreamcatcher have appeared three times as guests on Moonbyul's award winning radio show Studio Moon Night. Sua covered Hwasa's solo song Maria.
Mamamoo can and do sing about anything, literally. Female empowerment, self love and current social issues form a big part in their lyrics to their songs.

Soloist AleXa had a predebut cameo on Mamamoo's "Gogobebe" MV, and other exchanges with Moonbyul.

Welcome to the girlgroup with arguably the best vocals. I'm kinda curious how you could know their "sound" is not your style when you haven't heard any of their songs?
Their songs are definitely not all about love. Heck, they even have a song about being 1cm taller 😅
As for guides, they happen to have the best guide I've seen for ANY group. It's the "Introducing Mamamoo" guide by Purple Hawke (its been reuploaded now). It's 2 videos, and I can definitely recommend it.
You will probably get this from the guide, but they are probably the most crackhead girlgroup out there.
I agree that Mamamoo looks and sounds more mature than a lot of the other groups, which I can very much appreciate.

For me "hearing a song" means listening actively to the whole song, That's why I said they wasn't y style because I've heard like 2-3 songs but not completely because I always moved to something else. (yeah yea, shame on me😅)
But as many of people mentioned, I just didn't know about other songs that I could possible like.

Lol.. What I like about Mamamoo is their songs is about everything. Like the song you just heard, Dingga, that song was about Covid 19 situation. And there's a song about cooking in the kitchen. Mamamoo randomness can turn into an catchy and bop songs. Especially if you hear their B-side song. So their versatiles not limited into"Love Songs" that you kinda dont like.
Keep diving into Mamamoo and I'm sure you'll be fascinate with this womens 😁😁. And yes I agree with you, Mamamoo is not a girl group typical K-Pop Idols, but they are 4 talented musician which works together into a vocal group named Mamamoo. Why is that? Because each of them has Solos and succesful ones. So if they go Solo they definetely success as a Solois.

Your right that most of Mamamoo's work is about relationships, getting interested, being in the relationship, breaking up, looking back on a past relationship. Empowerment and self love are also important themes for them. So things that are not love songs: Yes I am (commenting on Idol beauty standards) Hip is a clap back at the haters and also an exploration of what they might be if they were not in Mamamoo showing the variety of what women can be. Wanna Be Myself self empowerment. They have a lot of humerous songs like 1CM and Sleep in the Car. A love song, but an unusual one, lovers who break up and eventually get back together Destiny.
There are 2 excellent guides. I prefer the one by Purple Hawk from 2019, Moo YT is more up to date 2022. Mamamoo has been refered to as the third gen 2ne1. I don't personally relate to it becaus I don't know 2ne1 well. It sounds like your a fan of Dreamcatcher, there are a lot of Insomnimoo's around.
Rhianna is Hwasa's role model. While she often uses a raspy voice it was more raspy that normal becaus she was fighting a cold during this performance. While you don't see it here, Moonbyul (the rapper) is a very talented singer as well. She recently won a competition show with 8 rappers competeing as vocalists.

Besides their catchy title songs of their albums, they are many interesting B-sides such as Taller than you, Sleep in the car, New York, Feakin shoes, Chuck, Aze Gag, No more drama, Universe, Travel, HeeHeeHaHeHo, Better, Cat Fight, 4x4ever, Diamond, High Tension, and etc. Even the commercial songs are so good such as Gleam and Wanna be myself. I highly recommend their recent 3 songs - 1,2,3 Eoi!, ILLELLA, and L.I.E.C. Other than their rich group projects, each of the member has a successful solo career with different collabs, albums, and OSTs. You will be surprised by their range and versatility!

Mamamoo ❤️ my second favorite group after Dreamcatcher 🤘😎
thanks to her that I knew K-pop in 2014.
So indeed my favorite style of music is rock but I had a real crush on their song and for Moonbyul 😅 my Bias.
Their story especially at the beginning is very complicated they didn't have a choreographer, so they had to do their own choreography. Moonbyul was only supposed to rap when she is an incredible vocalist and she had to impose herself.
Hwasa was criticized a lot on her physique, not thin enough, not beautiful enough etc...
So she said during a live concert :
« if i don’t fit into this generation’s standard of beauty… Then i will become my own standard »
In fact, they had gone through a lot but became wonderful artists. Moonbyul has the highest credited female idol on KOMCA with 107 credits under her Name.
They also have incredible solos that you have to listen to!
    especially Maria 🔥 ( Hwasa’s solo )
I hope it makes you want to discover them a little more 🙂

When you were commenting on the second song about their “sounds”; no, they don’t really sound alike at all, what you are experiencing is “blend”. This is next level talent and the ladies blend with each other when they want to. It’s especially helpful durning the harmony parts where they slide or belt (or both). You can lose your eyes and easily tell who is singing when they are singing individually. The each have a different tone, technique and use of effects. If you want to see more of their blending ability look up their cover of Delilah(when they were still rookies).

Mamamoo is up at the top with the best of the best vocalists. And they sing like that live, all the way through 4 hour concerts. No not all their songs are about love or relationships. They have over 300 songs in nearly every genre and range from love to crack head songs where they diss each other's height. Since you did BTOB, Chang Sub stared with Solar(the power belter) in a musical Mata Hari, with her as the lead actress. On Solar's youtube Solarsido, She and Changsub did a part switch where He sang mamamoo songs, some of them are on this, like I miss you and Solar sang some BTOB songs, great video. Mamamoo has 100s of videos. the MVs are also good because they are well produced, tell a story are funny if needed but nothing is better than their live performance, they sound so good live, sometimes you can only tell because of the occasional breath taken or the very infrequent flat note. Incredibly talented.

Mamamoo's music is extremely diverse and so is their subject matter. Yes they do lots of songs about love but they're not usually cheesy, heart filled, greeting card style pop songs (unless they're love songs to their fans). MMM's songs about love, passion and desire are very visceral and are usually charged with elements of emotional risk and danger whether it's falling in love or breaking up with someone (as in the songs Decalcomanie, Egotistic and Aya in the medley). Mamamoo has never fit into kpop's standards regarding beauty, fashion, gender roles, sexuality or proper behavior by female idols in general. Most kpop groups shy away from social issues but Mamamoo has been outspoken about things such as internet bullying and their support for the lgbtq+ community and express those beliefs in their songs and live performances such as Hip, Um Oh Ah Yeah, rapper Moonbyul's solo song Shutdown (about a lesbian relationship) and singer/rapper Hwasa's solo song Maria (about malicious internet comments) just to name a few examples. In the medley the song Hip is a combo of a diss track mocking their haters as people who spit on their own faces with a message song that redefines Hip to mean being true to yourself and doing your own thing rather than the usual slang meaning of cool or trendy. MMM songs often convey messages of self-empowerment and self love, such as Hip or their grrl power anthem Yes I Am. And though they're serious artists who write and perform music that's uplifting and healing they don't take themselves too seriously and are so famous for their hyper craziness, unpredictability, sense of humor and crackhead fun that they were dubbed beagle-dols. They're often described as a group who can write a song about anything and have songs about topics ranging from shoes, panties, recipes, dad jokes and their height in their repertoire. They're also described as a group who can sing anything and Koreans invented the slang phrase BeLisMaMoo to describe them: Believe & Listen to Mamamoo. Musically they've done just about every style of pop music, often blending several genres to create surprising and fresh combinations. Some of the genres they've explored include jazz, r&b, hip hop, latin pop, bossa nova, ballads, rock, EDM, country and of course lots of pop dance tracks so regardless of your preference there are probably a bunch of MMM songs that will suit your taste.
There are two excellent two-part guides to Mamamoo. The standard guide is Introducing Mamamoo by Purple Hawke but it's several years old and Moo YT's The Mamamoo Introduction Guide of 2022 is more up to date. Both are very informative, highly entertaining and extremely well-edited and I'd recommend watching both.

@@viktorialetstalk You're welcome! The guides will help but Mamamoo has been around since 2014 and have several dozen MVs and group, solo and subunit albums and hundreds of hours of live performance videos so it takes time to appreciate the full range of their music. And that's not counting their covers, OST songs, features and collabs with other artists, appearances on competition tv shows and other activities such as their personal yt channels or leader Solar's musical theatre debut last year playing the lead in Mata Hari. They're probably the hardest working women in show biz and it's hard to keep up with them. Last year they recorded and/or performed over 50 new covers and original songs even though Solar was busy for almost 6 months working on Mata Hari and at the end of the year the group was away on the Asian leg of their world tour . Have fun getting to know Mamamoo!

Dingga, the song you thought seemed summery, was actually their 'end of pandemic' song. That's why there was a lack of vitamin D and money wasted on delivery fees, and why they wanted to get together with friends. ... Also, gogobebe has the line 'it's okay to not be fine', which feels important to many listeners.

HIP (empowerment), Dingga (COVID/social distancing reaction) and Gogobebe (party) aren't love songs. :) Decalcomanie is technically a love song but is more about intimacy/sexuality. Egotistic and Aya are also technically love songs. Though more "our love is ending badly" songs. I'd recommend the MVs for each of these. As they give better context for each of the songs. The have a pretty extensive discography/catalog of songs. Which leans more towards empowerment with a mature take. There are some introduction to MMM videos out there by Moo YT. That are really good. I'd recommend watching them for getting to know the members. :)

OK. Not sure how i found this, or how i got through all of it. But I am here. I have been following MAMAMOO since their debut on June 18 2014. How you can compare them to groups like Dreamcatcher and 2NE1 is not clear in my head. Dreamcatcher debuted on Jan 13 2017, 2NE1 May 6 2009. The all have very different styles and talents. Had you looked into MAMAMOO you would have known if you wanted to compare them with anyone it should have been Big Mama. They debuted in 2003. As a girl group with 4 members who were actually singers like Mamamoo. If you watch any of their Sketchbook, or Immortal songs performances you will gain a lot of respect for their abilities. And if you watch any of their award ceremony performances like the Blue Dragon you will learn who Mamamoo really is. These girls started out with a fledgling agency and had virtually no support. They busked on the street to gain fans and recognition. And to them their fans are everything. Now Mamamoo is one of the most credited girl groups in KPOP when it comes to writing/composing and arranging their songs/videos. Moonbyul is one of the most accredited rappers in KPOP as well. Not to mention she won the second world competition hands down. You have 4 very successful soloists here that can not only sing but rap as well. And 4 very crack headed girls that love each other and have a lot of fun if you ever watch any of their content that shows them playing off stage. There is also a video about Mamamoo being the most under rated group in kpop. You need to watch it.

for me "listen to the song" means really listen the song actively. So yes, maybe I've heard like 2-3 of their songs that I didn't like and just moved to something else not even finished the half of the song. So that's why I didn't like the style.

Hahaa you got a few wrong assumptions here. Well, they are 4 vocals and 4 rappers. Because their rapper won vocal competition and made the judge and other competitors cry just by her singing. And then their vocalist chose to rap in the Mask Singer and everyone thought she was the rapper.
They are actually the most famous group for songs about loving yourself. For example the song Hip in this video or the song You are the best. They also write songs about LGBT, or normal daily life problems like don't have time to sleep.
The song Gogobebe in this video is about it's ok to feel tired and just let yourself relax, have fun (basic ly anti- stress and anti-social pressure song). Dinga is about hangout with your group of friends after covid ended.
And yes they are a women group, not girl group. Each of the members also have very successful solo career that you definitely should check out. Since you like Rock, I suggest you check out Moonbyul's song - Eclipse first (the one with short hair).
