Sorry for the delay guys! We had another video we were working on and I threw out it as something I just wasnt proud of, then the editor for this channel got Shingles. So basically he's been out of commission for like a week. We're aiming for the Moro arc in Dragon Ball and then the first part of Skypeia!
just to clear up your confusion about whitebeard: his japanese name is "shirohige" which does indeed translate to whitebeard, this is because japanese, much like many other languages, has no separate word for a moustache, to them it's all beard, and i guess "whitestache" wouldn't have the same ring to it.
lots of weird mistakes here. the ones I remember are: Nami didn't tell them to stop fighting, she told them to fight. also, Blackbeard is not Bellamy : P
It's a nice story that we tell ourselves, but actually not true. In Japanese he is called "shirohige", and while Shiro means white, hige is just a generic term used for facial hair , and not specifically for beard or mustache
Whitebeard doesn’t have a beard because of weird translation stuff. The historical pirate Blackbeard when talked about in Japan is phonetically pronounced “Blackbeard” they just used two Japanese words. However, the word people used to replace beard didn’t directly translate to beard. It just meant “facial hair.” So when oda made “whitebeard” it was more accurately translated as “white facial hair” so he never had a proper beard,
Its surprising you didn't really talk about the man Luffy meets in the bar. They have several interactions in this arc and it even includes a really epic moment talking about dreams. It's even the thumbnail of the video lol
The reason that Luffy and Zoro didn’t fight had less to due with Nami saying so and more to do with them realizing that Bellamy was not a threat that stood in their way so that had no dreams. To Luffy he almost ceased to even be a real pirate so fighting them would accomplish nothing. Cause if you noticed even though they promised Nami not to fight they were raring to go at pretty much anyone who claimed to be tough. I think because Jaya is a quick read that is a bit of a breather after Alabasta that it’s easy to blow through and miss some subtleties but I think it’s worth a reread. We learn A LOT about how just how grand the world really is in both its fantastic locations and in its politics and balance of power structure. I feel like it’s where Onepieces world building really starts to shine. Not to say that it hadn’t already but you see the world is bigger than the straw hats by a lot.
The video editors probably should let Benny know that the bounties don't power scale in a 1 to 1 manner. They include things like influence and notoriety or disruptiveness as seen through the eyes of the WG. And as he'll see in future arcs, the WG will fudge with the numbers in either direction for special cases.
I agree lol when he mentioned power scaling I immediately thought of a certain 8 yr old who’s knowledge was the reason why she got a really high bounty
13:30 The person you are thinking of is Blackbeard. He's the one that goes chasing after Luffy to collect his bounty. Blackbeard is the one that Ace is hunting down, and the one that attacked Chopper's island and chased Wapol off. 14:40 Oh...you'll know when you read a "filler" arc. They leave an aftertaste that you'll never forget years from now. The Jaya arc is NOT one of them. Its relevance will ripple throughout the numerous arcs to come, even to this day. 15:00 Luffy ACTUALLY ignored Nami and told Zoro to not do anything because Nami changed her mind and told them to kick Bellamy's ass. Luffy was following the example that Shanks set on what a "man" is. The Whitebeard situation boils down to the translation and the word for "facial hair". It sounds more badass to name someone Whitebeard than "White Facial Hair". Also, who's the person that's going to have the "bright" idea to correct Whitebeard on his name. That's how someone ends up getting murdered. "Umm...Mr. Whitebeard, sir...about your name..." You made a smart choice in breaking Skypeia into 2-3 parts. It is quite dense with a lot of things happening. This was another fun entertaining video! Keep up the great work! As always, I look forward to the ones to come. #ZoroBoyz4Life!!! P.S. Look up the Luffy vs. Bellamy fight in the anime...IT'S EPIC!!! #OnePunchPieceMan
@@mangastorian Yup...it was. It was marked with an "unlisted" tag and ONLY had 30 views which felt weird because I'm never this early for anything. It felt like a reward for being a Zoro fanboy all my life and checking each day if a new episode had dropped! I did a Thor: Ragnarok "YES!!!", dropped whatever I was doing, and watched the video instantly! P.S. Make sure to read the SBS Q&A Corners! Important questions are being asked by fans to Oda that have plagued comic book fans of Mr. Fantastic, Plastic Man, and The Human Torch for years. "Does Luffy's family jewels stretch, too?" "Are Ace's balls made of fire as well?" "If Zoro got so lost, would he end up accidentally finding the One Piece?" "How big do Giant turds end up being?"
I get that you'd consider Jaya to be "filler" because the Straw Hats don't do much, but imo a big part of why OP works is because the world feels like a real place that has other shit to do than worry about whatever the Straw Hats are up to. Things are constantly happening around the Straw Hats without them having to do anything and they havebto react to their world as much as the world has to react to them. To this very day, even though the straw hats are much more central to everything that happens, this is still true. And thats very appealing to me.
I'm surprised that you didn't mention Blackbeard/Marshall D. Teach showing up! But the Jaya Arc IS essentially a setup arc. There WERE two filler arcs between Alabasta and Jaya in the anime, but it was more Robin bonding with the crew than anything else. Also, when it comes to story arcs, Water Seven/Enies Lobby, the next arc is AMAZING, and it shows you just how far Luffy is willing to go for his crew, and you WILL be crying during the aftermath. When you get to Marineford though, be prepared for the worst pain yet. Wano is, so far as I know, the last completed arc in the manga so far.
What I love about Jaya is before you ever learn that Blackbeard is Blackbeard, he just comes off as just a strange dude. You have no idea he is the dude that Ace is hunting. Jaya isn’t filler. It’s set up for Skypiea. The same was that later arcs like Punk Hazard are set up for Dressrosa. Robin will get her moment.
i considered Jaya as part of the Skipiea Arc, more like pre-Skypiea. first time they met Blackbeard, Bellamy and about the bounties, a real pirates dreams, and the importance of the Shichibukai. I also wondered why call him “Whitebeard” when it was a mustache😅
I think it’s crazy that so early in the story you really have no idea what characters or plot points will be important and dismiss some stuff. I love one piece
about the bounties: a lot of factors go into ones bounty, these factors are: -the pirates strength as perceived by the government, based on encounters with marines or other known pirates -the pirates general disposition, (a pirate who just steals would get a lower bounty than one who murders people) -the pirates associations, which could be other infamous relatives, crew members, allies, associates, former room mates and stuff like that (for example if the marines knew of luffys association to shanks, this would effect his bounty) -the pirates disposition to the world government (some pirates view the WG as a nuisance, others are deliberately seeking conflict with the WG and the marines for whichever reason) -does the pirate possess knowledge that the WG wants to keep under wraps (such as luffy knowing about the alabasta incident and the subsequent cover up)
Whitebeard a man so badass he grew a moustache and made everyone call it a beard. Also in japanese 'hige' means any facial hair not necessarily just a beard the translators probably thought whitebeard was cooler than whitemoustache or whitewhiskers.
I'd say the biggest arcs in One Piece are Water 7/Enies Lobby, and then Marineford. Those arcs are legendary. Water 7 is when One Piece goes from a good series to a "great now I can't stop watching/reading" series. And Marineford is just...Marineford. It's difficult to explain what makes it so good without any spoilers, but it's my favorite arc in the series.
Yrs ago reading marine Ford as it happend was insane we thought we peaked to see it stand the test of time is amazing and watching people's emotions up to it is epic😂😂
The reason Whitebeard doesn't have a beard is basically because Japanese doesn't have different words for "Beard" and "Mustachr". They just have a word for Facial Hair. And White Beard does have a White Mustache,
For majorly important arcs, since you commented on such, the ones from here on: Skypiea Water 7 Enies Lobby End of Thriller Bark Sabaody Archipelago Impel Down Marineford Dressrosa Wholecake Island Wano For many readers, Arabasta often gets people hooked. Water 7... takes that to another level.
In Japanese his name is Shirohige, shiro means white and hige means facial hair actually. So it still counts. And Water seven is a great arc too, you should look forward to that after fully enjoying Skypeia.
Skypiea is actually very important and will be brought back up later. Keep that arc in mind. Also, Mocktown ages like sake. You'll love it looking back. Actually, most of One Piece ages like speculated sake, so just remember that during slower arcs.
NOT A SPOILER but yea Oda loves pullin the Vivi troupe by leading the readers on with certain characters 😂. And 2 bounty prices are set depending on how much of a threat said pirate is to the government, so it's not necessarily their overall power
Bounties are used for some power scaling but its far from something like the Visors from dragon ball, bounties are more about influence and general power (wealth, numbers, feats, etc)
The beard thing is very difficult as far as the translation goes, since there's only one word for the facial hair around mouth; hige(beard). So the Whitebeard is called Shiro(white)-hige, the Blackbeard, Kuro(black)-hige, and so on. So the translator must have thought it more appropriate than calling him the Whitestache or something.
12:50 It's not a "thing through his nose" but an epic 'stache. People will try to give you an explanation of how he is called "Shirohige," which is Japanese for Whitebeard, but Hige doesn't mean beard, it means facial hair, but that's a lie. He is Whitebeard because he is so badass that nobody dares telling him that a 'stache is not a beard
2:40 WOW!! From Skypiea to an island in the sky, which is impossible, that's a leap... I hate to spoil, but that arc is about a Skype call, but due to copyright and trademark issues they call it Skypiea
I don't know if you're just skimming through pages or just not paying much attention but Luffy and Zoro didn't fight back not because Nami told them not to in the beginning, but because as Blackbeard explained, it wasn't a fight worth fighting because Luffy deemed Bellamy, who had no real dreams, someone that was not worth it.
6:54 so yes you can determine relative strength by a bounty. But bounties aren’t just about strength, it’s how badly the Government wants to capture you. Robin has had a very high bounty since she was 8, and she definitely wasn’t some crazy powerhouse as a child.
Anime Fans: “Likes putting numbers to power levels.” Oda: “Bet.” As a DragonBall fan, I look forward to seeing how your expectations are subverted with the Bounty System. They already kind of were here, but you ain’t seen nothing yet. And that scene where Zoro and Luffy don’t fight back because they have nothing to prove both power-wise and ambition/dream wise still stands as one of my favorite scenes in this arc. That and moment “OP” didn’t stand for One Piece. One puuunch!
Nami wasn’t the one to say don’t fight it was luffy and it was because he felt they were trivial like shanks in ch1 but when his friend was attacked (new friend in cricket and gang) he whooped Bellamy’s ass
Well bountys aren't necessarily a way to show power but a way to show how dangerous someone is and how much the government wants to shut them down so you don't necessarily have to be powerful but you have to be dangerous if you know what I mean.
Whiteboard not having a beard is actually because in Japanese the word for beard includes all facial hair and does not separate your mustache from your beard.
Why Whitebeard doesn't have a beard ? The Official answer : Because there is no distinction between beard and moustache in japanese (shiro hige = white facial hair) The funny answer : You don't question the nickname of a 6 meters tall buffy old man, my guy.
It's not about proving that 'strawhats are strong' Luffy didn't fight because he didn't find a reason to. It's like will you go arguing a kid who knows nothing about the world and goes bullshitting? To Luffy Bellamy is lost cost, he is not worth arguing/fighting over.
Fun fact, in spanish (from Spain) dubbed version, Shirohige/Whitebeard is referred as "Mostacho Albino", that is literally translated as "White/Albino Mustache" xD
Its intersting the things u focus on. U didnt even mention the guy at the bar practically. Ive also never heard anyone describe this as filler. Its a setup arc and extremely important. It introduces so much stuff u would be completely lost without. 2 quick things. Bounties arent really based on power. Its essencially fame and threat to the world government. Secondly at the bar nami gives them the ok to fight. Luffy chose not to on his own and not based off of nami. Nami was confused why they werent fighting. Its a small point but completely changes the meaning and intent of the scene
You seem to miss that real reason Luffy and Zoro did not go through with fighting back against Bellamy, was the fact he dismissed the value having a Dream and how shallow he truly was, hence not worth fighting. This further highlighted when the same cherry pie man that Luffy argued with previously, (Blackbeard), doubles down and supports the importance of Dreams to pirates with his speech. Lastly the bounties could be used to power scale but they are primarily to showcase reputation, notoriety, & influence.
Without spoils, Jaya is basically a setup arc and one that hides tons of things until once you’ve read further ahead, lots of those characters make appearances again at different parts and just seeing them here reminds you of how long oda plans some of these things
Bounty is based on the threat posed by the individual to the world government, not necessarily on how powerful they are. So while yes a powerful person poses a bigger threat and thus a higher bounty, that isn't always the case.
You got a lot of things surprisingly wrong in this review. Luffy didn’t listen to Nami at all. he was ready to fight Bellamy but then realised Bellamy didn’t have a dream and ordered Zoro to not fight them. They let themselves get their asses kicked despite Nami ASKING them to defend themselves. To be fair One Piece is a very VERY dense story. That why I recommend you to take notes or to read less chapters at once to “digest” all the informations.
In many languages there is no difference between mustache and beard, all facial hair is called beard and then there are more specific names ones based on shape. The same goes for japan with Kurohige and Shirohige. But when translating those names, it makes sense to call them Blackbeard and Whitebeard, because both are based on that Blackbeard. Even the original name of Edward Teach was split for One Piece into Marshal D. Teach (Blackbeard) and Edward Newgate (Whitebeard)
Yeah Nico Robin is a great character. She may seem untrustworthy in parts of Skypia, honestly I was a lot like Zoro and didn't fully trust her back in the day. But she is currently one of my favorite characters in the series, including Usopp who really grows as a character in a few specific arcs including Skypia.
You don't pay attention... Nami ALEGEDLY told Luffy and Zoro not to fight anyone, but after Bellamy and his crew started laughing at them and threatening them, she said, "okay, I change my mind. Kick their asses!" But Luffy, remembering Shanks lesson, made the choice HIMSELF to not fight, despite Nami telling him to defend himself.
"Why did you warn me?" and lessen the emotional impact? Oh no, we're One Piece fans, we ain't NICE like that. YOU get to experience the same journey we did just as blind. :D
I feel like meetimg blackbeard didnt make as much of an impact as it should have. That and the creepyness of a person able to snipe a bird from over a mile away.
Btw Jaya is a setup arc, these setup like slower, a little less good than normal, arcs are basically to give you downtime and to build up the next humungous arc
As far as Whitebeard namesake in Japan there is no word to differentiate between mustaches and beards so they use a single word to describe all facial hair as a result in translation Whitebeard sounds better than white mustache
It's always fun to see people getting into one piece, people from different backgrounds diving into the series, some even disliking for various reasons. However, this channel reviews are specially annoying to me really. Either this dude is doing some elaborate troll (unlikely but would be preferred honestly) or he really doesn't pay attention and at best is just skimming to the fights and maybe reading a synopsis before recording. I'm not one to usually post negative comments and I find gatekeeping cringe, there's no "right way" to experience something, but this reviews have gotten on my nerves.
The japanese word for "beard": "hige". Can actually refer to all facial hair, so he can actually be "Whitemustache" but "whitebeard" has a better ring to it xd
Glad you’re having fun with the story but upon completion, definitely give the story a reread just for yourself no videos because you definitely confuse a few things.
Same process of thoughts of the crew: "luffy is dead if he goes down there.... But... We cannot stop him anyways" Lol. You really need to start writing down your own OP misteries, so you don't forget or can cross them out if discovered haha *NO SPOILER* This is kind of a transition/build up arc, one piece has some of these that are to prepare information and situations for the next arc/arcs. Don't sweat it, everything will fit in later :) Keep it on mate! You're about to enter the hardest part before the real OP turnover happens. Brace yourself!
Skypia is great but I should warn that a lot of its current hype comes from elements it sets up that don’t get paid off for a long time. Still love it but first time readers may be confused as to why it’s so popular and talked about now
The original one piece 4 kids dub ended at the beginning of the Jaya Ark When the ship fell from the sky they made it seem like they were all crushed lol

about the bounties:
a lot of factors go into ones bounty, these factors are:
-the pirates strength as perceived by the government, based on encounters with marines or other known pirates
-the pirates general disposition, (a pirate who just steals would get a lower bounty than one who murders people)
-the pirates associations, which could be other infamous relatives, crew members, allies, associates, former room mates and stuff like that (for example if the marines knew of luffys association to shanks, this would effect his bounty)

13:06 because Whitebeard and Blackbeard sound better than "white facial hair" and "black facial hair" lol
Anime Fans: “Likes putting numbers to power levels.”
Oda: “Bet.”
As a DragonBall fan, I look forward to seeing how your expectations are subverted with the Bounty System.
Nami wasn’t the one to say don’t fight it was luffy and it was because he felt they were trivial like shanks in ch1 but when his friend was attacked (new friend in cricket and gang) he whooped Bellamy’s ass
i think this is the first time i've ever seen a jaya review/reaction video where blackbeard's existence is completely ignored and forgotten.
I found the diving bells pretty accurate to real ones.
I love this series, very refreshing
Why Whitebeard doesn't have a beard ?
The Official answer : Because there is no distinction between beard and moustache in japanese (shiro hige = white facial hair)
The funny answer : You don't question the nickname of a 6 meters tall buffy old man, my guy.
How did he just completely miss Blackbeard?!?!
Not even mentioning the famous quote about people’s dreams never ending, how unfortunate
It's not about proving that 'strawhats are strong'
Luffy didn't fight because he didn't find a reason to. It's like will you go arguing a kid who knows nothing about the world and goes bullshitting? To Luffy Bellamy is lost cost, he is not worth arguing/fighting over.
He dumb
Maybe you're not familiar with this concept but Jaya is whats known as a "setup" arc. We're gonna get a lot of those in-between arcs.
I think he’s just got that early view of One Piece not understanding that everything is important
Welcome to One Piece Benny where the only correct answer to “Why is Luffy” anything is “Beacuse it’s Luffy”!!
oh dude. I literally just got done playing dredge right before I turned this video on. I understand the feeling you were trying to explain lmao
That white thing for Whitebeard is his mustache, just so you know.^^ But yeah, it's strange he's named that. XD
I completely forgot I was waiting for these. Back to it
Let's make this very clear...
Bounties are NOT meant to be an accurate scale of anyone's power.
If anything, they are clout scaling.
He calls his mustache a beard and everyone is too scared to correct him
Set up/transition arc, trust it's peak.
Jaya is a companion arc to Skypia. Not really meant to be taken by itself, but you'll one day get the importance of it all. You'll see eventually
After skypiea is a filler arc in the anime and it is a very good filler arc so you should watch it
Yeah Nico Robin is a great character. She may seem untrustworthy in parts of Skypia, honestly I was a lot like Zoro and didn't fully trust her back in the day. But she is currently one of my favorite characters in the series, including Usopp who really grows as a character in a few specific arcs including Skypia.
Jaya is one of my fav arcs
I think you fuse Bellamy and Blackbeard in your mind.
I LOVE THAT LUFFY SHIRT!!!!
I love this series, keep up the great work brother.
You don't pay attention...
Nami ALEGEDLY told Luffy and Zoro not to fight anyone, but after Bellamy and his crew started laughing at them and threatening them, she said, "okay, I change my mind. Kick their asses!" But Luffy, remembering Shanks lesson, made the choice HIMSELF to not fight, despite Nami telling him to defend himself.
the word hige means facial hair, and there are no separate words for beard or mustache in japanese, so his name really is white facial hair
"Why did you warn me?" and lessen the emotional impact? Oh no, we're One Piece fans, we ain't NICE like that. YOU get to experience the same journey we did just as blind. :D
Huh
u did that
I feel like meetimg blackbeard didnt make as much of an impact as it should have. That and the creepyness of a person able to snipe a bird from over a mile away.
Doesn't need to
Btw Jaya is a setup arc, these setup like slower, a little less good than normal, arcs are basically to give you downtime and to build up the next humungous arc
Tru
The japanese word for "beard": "hige". Can actually refer to all facial hair, so he can actually be "Whitemustache" but "whitebeard" has a better ring to it xd
try reading the colored version if you're struggling
The 7 warlords at this point are there to build up the world and flesh it out
To answer the whitebeard question, he just grew a mustache and declared it a beard, and no one dared to question it.
Glad you’re having fun with the story but upon completion, definitely give the story a reread just for yourself no videos because you definitely confuse a few things.
Same process of thoughts of the crew: "luffy is dead if he goes down there.... But... We cannot stop him anyways" Lol.
You really need to start writing down your own OP misteries, so you don't forget or can cross them out if discovered haha
*NO SPOILER* This is kind of a transition/build up arc, one piece has some of these that are to prepare information and situations for the next arc/arcs. Don't sweat it, everything will fit in later :) Keep it on mate! You're about to enter the hardest part before the real OP turnover happens. Brace yourself!
It's not a filler arc but it t will take hundreds o chapters till we as readers understood what was going on
Luffy just loves the adventure man. There was no stopping him going into that ship no chance
Also that wasn't belemy crew that chase the straw hats to the knock-up stream it was the other pirate crew from jaya
This is a set-up arc after a major arc like Alabasta.
Hige is Japanese for beard and it refers to any facial hair
Well.. You'll realize later the importance of Jays later.
Mainly Bellamy and his philosophy vs Luffy's philosophy.
Skypia is great but I should warn that a lot of its current hype comes from elements it sets up that don’t get paid off for a long time. Still love it but first time readers may be confused as to why it’s so popular and talked about now
I find it hilarious how you were introduced to an end-series villain and didn’t even mention (or know) it
3:13 man thinks Luffy would just sit back and not go explore a sunken ship just because he might drown.
The original one piece 4 kids dub ended at the beginning of the Jaya Ark When the ship fell from the sky they made it seem like they were all crushed lol
Dreams explored in this Arc
